I have wallpapers for KEA, AJFA, and RTL. Oh and black album of course. () AJFA looks coolest imo. Like statue of a woman holding that money thing. RTL cover looks cool, but graphics suck. It doesn't look as real. Kill em all is neat. Mysterious for that matter. Cause there is actually a shadow of someone's hand there. :p

this has already been discussed, but I'm gonna say something from load or reload, there isn't a single bad song on any of their other albums

..AJFA is an album full of bad songs... (Weee  Hey Metallifans! )
Every other album has at least ONE respectable song, ok, maybe not Black album.. Or Load... Or ReLoad... Urgh, ok.

thats not true . . .AJFA WAS in fact their last thrash metal album
and its one of my favs cause they really put a lot of emotion into each song.
not to mention speed.
It was their last, and it was ****.

load, reload, and black album had no respectable songs?! what the **** are u talking about? Enter sandman, Nothing Else Matters, King Nothing Bleeding Me, Outlaw Torn, Fuel, Unforgiven II just to name a few. Chu you have no taste, how about a little diversity in what u listen too
I listen to HEAPS. I will give anything ONE chance.
But seriously, Black album, Load and ReLoad are just horrible.
Maybe it's because the band went from being this ****en sick thrash band, to a piece of **** mtv band :x (I'm not saying they sold out, I just ****en hate them for changing their style, even if it's what they wanted to do, they're ****en gay for it, St. Anger was a step in the right direction, but it just wasn't enough).

i dont understand most people would say black album was their last best album and that st. anger sucks. but i agree with u st. anger is a step in the right direction more solos will help the next album. but i dont think they are an MTV band thats just wrong. Load and reload had good songs but they did not flow well songs that were unorthadox like low mans lyric and outlaw torn good songs but kind of threw off the albums but Metallica has NEVER released a bad album...of course im biased i grew up listening to them. but i respect your opinion chu even if its not a good one ;)

even though their change isnt great i still respect them because obviously they were going thru lots of s*** up until st. anger

I'm speechless, a Metallica fan respecting an opinion, this one's rare
I think St. Anger's better then AJFA tbh. The lack of solos? I don't care, chances are I could play a better solo then Kirk these days, he's gone, history.
The drums are what gave me the ****s. Stupid Lars, seriously, the guy's a fat dick. I grew up listenning to Metallica too, my first cd I ever had, my first REAL musical experience was with Ride The Lightning, it blew my mind, and paved the way for Master of Puppets, but in my opinion, Ride is their best CD, followed by Master and Kill 'em All both tied at a very even second, and then St. Anger somewhere, then.. They released other albums? Oh yeah, **** ones :D
But nah, they haven't been doing justice to the name Metallica since like 1990. It's gay, Lars' steals this sick METAL band name so he can create a band that slowly tears itself away from metal. It's horrible.

chu u dont like any songs out of load reload or black album? or is it that u just dont like most of the songs?
I dunno, I hate the guy, James and Cliff were the driving forces behind the legend that was Metallica. Cliff dieing, and then James giving up alcohol, that was the final break. Maybe if they all went through mid-life crisis, grew their hair long, took up drugs again, and just spent like 6 months in a recording studio, Kirk taking guitar lessons again, this time focus on theory, so he can compose a decent solo :P
Nah, there are about a 5 songs after Master I can say I like, well, that's not including St. Anger, which isn't bad imo.
madlyinangerwithu
05-19-2005, 12:46 AM
u think it was them stopping drinking and drugs that made them bad? it was the drugs that made them go crazy...there is always going to be an album that your not going to like. its not that they stopped drugs or because they were depressed its because everyone likes something different and thats what Metallica does they adapt to what people like in their music. so you didnt like it when they changed from thrash but more people started to like them...but to me they are great i like most metal and im easy to please especially when it comes to Metallica.
More people started to like them, because they're mtv metal.
Edit: By the way, alot of my flaming directed towards etallica is just because I find it hilarious to get you guys psyched on such a thing.
Metallica fans react so fast to anyting about their band, and they're always quick to throw in some defense, even if it's not 100% accurate. I think it's funny.

what needs to happen on the next album is let everyone do their own thing like their old music. Just a helpful tip here mate, Click edit on your post... Saves posting twice in a row :D
Well Metallica are due to hit the studio later in the year for an early release on there follow up to St Anger album in 06, This is the only news I have heard about it so far, Also this backs up the rumour of Re-Anger...
''Best band'' Is all down to personal preference, not record sales, not publicity, simple personal liking...
I don't know why everyone holds Metallica responsible for Napster, It was 8 bands (One of which was Limp Bizkit  ) That all closed the file sharing program down, Metallica were just the only band to admit, they said they won't hide the truth from there fans...
My opinions are completely formed from my own opinions.
I don't worry about them suing Napster, I have over 20gbs of .mp3s on my comuter that I have download, on the slight chance they do 'bust' me, they can't do much to me, so I say let them sue :D

ur wrong selling millions of records does make them good just does not mean anything to u. as far as everyone else their the best. dont get me wrong i love other bands. Slayer, slipkot, coal chamber, godsmack, hatebreed, System of a Down, and of couse all the old bands, led, acdc, and jimmy. but metallica plays their instruments better they can be more diverse then other bands. what makes me like them so much is their not up their hitting strings, banging drums, and yelling they have skill they can create good music and still keep it heavy. thats what makes them a good band.

Selling millions of records can work either way, in Metallica's situation I don't consider it a good thing, I think that because Metallica 'were' in (First metal band to hit mtv), they got alot of their record sales, these are not fans, they just buy the music because it's in the scene, that has nothing to do with Metallica 'selling-out', it has everything to do with teenagers and what they think is cool, hell when Metallica were teens it was cool to wear skin tight jeans :amaze:, I think an artist like 50 Cent, or Eminem proves to us that it's not _hard_ to be the new cool figure, just do something that's so rebel, and every kid looking for a community, or something to belong to, will be attracted to you.
I am in no way saying Metallica didn't work for what they got, hell yes they worked.
//This might need some re-thinking and additions...
Edit: Here
To be honest, it wouldn't be Metallica who sued you, it would be the RIAA
By let them sue, I was meaning let them sue Napster.
RIAA can't touch me, because I'm Australian and different rules apply, but the American media is pushing their rules to Australia! And with our SICK government, weee!! American clone 101.

Well My 1000'th post, I best had post it in here!!
Yes, They worked for it, But agree alot of record sales were just random people buying for the sake of it... My mum has The Black album, She got it the day it came out, she listenes to Ashlee Simpson!!! The only things she ever did that were Metal like were.. Buy the black album.. And go and see Guns N Roses, but My dad made her go lol
Well the figure Metallica payed for court lawer fees was approx, $750,000, But in all due respect, Metallica did say to a Napster Rep.. We don't want this song released yet, Can you please take it off?? They didn't, they asked once more, take it down or be forced to take it down by legal action.. Again they didn't, now the creator of napster is moneyless, poor, and is paying like $100 a week to Metallica lol

i dont think you can really compare them. burton was an extremely good musician - as in he knew pretty much everything there is to know about music theory, and how it works. I think i would have to say that rob is a better bassist, however cliff got cut short in the beginning of his career.

Selling millions of records doesn't necessarily make you good at all...some of the biggest selling artists of the last 5 years have been some of the least original, middle of the road music imaginable, but they sell millions of albums for precisely that reason; there's no edge to them, meaning that they're palatable to the general public. Never underestimate how diverse the musical tastes of this forum is compared to just about everywhere else. Please note, I'm not saying Metallica aren't good (I actually quite like them), but just that selling millions of albums doesn't necessarily mean that you're good. About playing instruments better, I really disagree with what you said. Taking Lars Ulrich, the drummer for SOAD could blow him away now, even though when Ulrich was at his best he might not have been able to. Every member of Zeppelin, particuarly JPJ and Bonham was more talented at their instrument than every member of Metallica. I'm not saying there's anything shameful in that, as Zeppelin were a very talented band, but it's true...compared to a lot of metal bands, and a lot of music in general, Metallica aren't really that talented. They might make better music, which is completely subjective, but they're not as talented.
I agree with you, the number of cd's you sell doesn't really mean much. Honestly, Ashlee Simpson sucks and she's probably sold more cd's than some very talented metal bands. Led Zeppelin was a very talented band. I would agree with you with Bonham and JPJ > Ulrich and the 3 bassists, I don't know about guitar. Metallica is pretty talented, just not the most. And the reason that they are as famous as they are today is because their music is better (imo, of course)

No.
Hating Ashlee Simpson won't do anything, try hating her fans for buying her recrds or the record companies for producing her.
Alot of R&M acts don't get mass recognition becuase they don't appeal to a very wide range of people. As simple as.
Not anybody can rap. And In rap, as with most genres, there are amazing underground artists who get little recognition compared to the rubbish that pollutes the mainstream. Do not make such awful generalisations about entire genres.

John Dolmayan is a very good drummer. Waaaay better than lars. He's probably the best nu-metal drummer excluding Joey Jordison. Who knows, they're both good. But metallica is talented. Sure there are more technical band, but being a good musician also means you can make good tunes, and not just technical guitar riffs that sound crap. For example, dream theater are more technical than metallica, but they do not have as many good songs. Therefore imo, metallica are better musicians.

Don't slag a band you haven't listenned to.
Alot of people on these forums talk **** about Dream Theater, how Petrucci only wanks, just because they have listenned to one song where he does.
Don't base your opinion of a band on ONE or TWO songs of theirs you have heard, this is especially true for a progressive band, who have a different sound for the majority of their songs.
They also haven't been around for as long as Metallica, they haven't had the oppurtunity to write as much, but I can assure you, by the time Dream Theater have been around for the equivelant of Metallica, they will have as many, if not more good songs.
You really need to open your mind.

Name me 20 good songs from dream theater that are good. :thumb: I've listened to their whole cd at my friends house and it was pretty boring. Dream Theater are good, and sure they can play pretty much every metallica, maiden, etc. song, but the point is in making a great song. Not covering it. Imo all dream theater's work is all pure technicality. Nothing is exciting as much as maiden or metallica.
They have more then one album, and their sound isn't restricted to one album, you have to listen to them each individually to understand them.
Their album Images & Words is a musical masterpiece, everything about the album is amazing, I suggest you get this album, and listen to it.
Recommended songs: Pull Me Under, Another Day, Surrounded, Metropolis, Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleepe, Under A Glass Moon and Learning To Live.
Their album Scenes From a Memory is just amazing, why? Well, it tells a story, a concept album, that has some amazing music behind it.
Recommended songs: Overture 1928, Fatal Tragedy, Beyond This Life, Through Her Eyes and One Last Time.
Their album Train of Thought, might be right up your alley, this is where Dream Theater have broken into the Metal scene more, it is an approach on progressive metal, it is awesome.
Recommended songs: As I Am, Endless Sacrifice, Honour Thy Father, In The Name of God.
They are the only albums I have, but I have their song The Glass Prison, and it is up there with the best songs of metal, it has everything, amazing drums, bangable riffs (With some sweet solos), and beast bass.
Please, honestly listen to these albums, if not, at least the songs I recommended, these songs, in my opinion, are among the finest ever written, and truly showcase that Dream Theater isn't a band out to just show off.
I hope after listenning to these songs you will be able to form your own opinion on the band.
The only thing I can find that is bad about Dream Theater is their length, sometimes their music just goes for too long.

u know who cares which metal band is better, the point is that metal is the best music. music has gotten so bad these days that its not even funny. people who dont have to do really anything are selling millions of records. Munky_magik is right dont hate ashlee simpson or any pop band for that matter its not their fault that people are dumb enough to buy their album, i mean if u could make millions of dollars just lip syncing wouldnt u do it, at least most metal bands stay true to their fans and to music.

no there not wot a load of shhite :thumb:
It depends...
Images And Words is the album that most people seem to point to as being their best, even though I think they really evolve from it later on.
Metropolis Part 2: Scenes From A Memory is a concept album, which I personally consider to be the best thing they've done yet, and is apparently what the new album Octavarium sounds most like.
Train Of Thought is their most recent album, and is so far the heaviest thing that they've recorded. It's kind of divisive among DT fans, but personally I prefer it to a lot of their stuff.
A Change Of Seasons has one 23 minute song on, and a bunch of live covers which bring the album down. The title track though is one of the best things ever recorded, so you need to hear that.
To give this post a vaguely Metallica-related topic, they've covered the entire Master Of Puppets album at several concerts. Now that would be very interesting...
Thank you :)

Right I'm letting loose about Metallica now.
This is the last time I'm saying this EVER:
Despite me having a Metallica email address I actually hate Metallica now. St. Anger really sucked monkey nuts and now because of it Metallica are kings of the 'metal' world. Jesus christ, if you're gonna sell out, you can at least make some half decent stuff. There is not one song in St. Anger that I like. Even the albums right before St. Anger such as Garage Inc, S&M, Reload all had a few decent songs in them. The only 2 albums I liked by Metallica are Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning. The reason for Metallica's sell out is unknown, but everything started going wrong when Cliff Died (RIP). Either way, I have lose even more respect for Metallica every time I see one of their videos or merchandise from St. Anger. Why oh why did one of the best bands ever have to go downhill?
Ahhhh, that felt better, this thread was a great idea. To be completely honest I was going to make a thread like this about a week ago, but because I only registered in October I thought everyone would spam me. Ok, I am a drummer, But I play guitar quite often, and bass once in a while so I in the same boat:
My Suggestions are
Metallica - For Whom the bell tolls (its a very simple song, and pretty slow also)
Metallica - Enter Sandman (Really easy song)
Metallica - Unforgiven (Not really easy for a beginner, but a challenge at that)
Metallica - Nothing else matterz (Only kidding, its solid)!!!

MoP in bass isn't too hard. The hard bits are the 'spider riff' (which we've been reliably informed isn't a spider riff at all, but that's the name it has anyway...), and the little scale run after the solo (not too bad, but the speed can be a little hard, especially if you play it faster than the album version). Either way, if you have good enough finger speed, it isn't a problem (obviously...)

Pretty simple, Metallica have, and always will use spare material left over from the previous album... They must have loads of riffs on paper! And yes they having a break from recording, don't mean to say they are not jamming, ect:
Dude, if Metallica leaked demos, wouldn't there be a bigger buzz about it than just you knowing? And why not YSI them for us?
Metallica posted the demos on there website (www.metallica.com) They always update it, If you go to their home page linked above, and click the Metallivault link you can preview them yourself, I cannot yousendit them because I am currently having sound problems with my computer, I managed to uninstall my sound card thinking it was a digi-Cam  I am hoping to correct my sound in the next couple of days, when I can do so I will be more than happy to post them on here for you.

I hated Dave's vocals the first time I heard Peace Sells, but it didn't take long for the vocals to grow on me, singing AND playing the parts Dave does is also difficult, the man works hard during songs. I'll admit though, that the vocals on the live DVD are pretty iffy... he just can't hit those high notes with his voice as well.. I've never seen Megadeth live in person though so he might have just sounded different on Rude Awakening.
madlyinangerwithu
05-23-2005, 09:53 PM
i agree with u on the james statement but i think most people think its cliff because hes dead, they dont want to disrespect him and because hes an original member, i love cliff he was unorthodox in his playing but i think rob has a better stage presence...but Jason was a better technical player although he sold his family (Metallica) out by leaving...
sorry...i will edit more :(

Yeah, he's weird, sometimes he can't sing live, the next day he can sing better..
Mustaine's voice is like an acquired taste, it just grows on you I reckon.
I've introduced all my friends to Megadeth, at first they couldn't stand Mustaine's voice, now they don't care.
But yeah, I don't understand why people call Mustaine whiny, see, he doesn't actually whine, unless someone brings it up, if he just started random outlashes, then I'd understand...
Plus, he's bloody good on guitar, in my opinion. And the man has been through a life time of **** already.

Jason, from what he showed in Metallica, was the least talented of the three. However, his work in Flotsam and Jetsam (Metalshock, particularlly) is 30x better than what he was allowed to write in Metallica (Load/ReLoad were the only two albums he was allowed to really write anything iirc)
Rob is easily the best of the three. He can do it all...slap, pop, finger, hell, he even breaks out the pick once in awhile.
Unfortunately, Cliff's life was taken too early in his career to know what he could do other than what he had already done.

i like them both i think they both bring something good to the industry im glad that mustaine got kicked out of metallica because he started another good band. and kirk made a great addition to metallica. i do like kirk more, but mustaine is second on the list. but again thats just my opinion
edit: vashts80 i agree with u about rob but i think jason brought more then you think...at least live and on the dvds, solos and what not

I'm glad Mustaine's not in Metallica anymore, I don't think Kirk is very good at all, I mean he's good for Metallica, but he's not as good as everyone says, at least I don't believe so.
Edit: I think Cliff was the best bassist bassist from Metallica, maybe he didn't have technicality over the other guys, but his style was better for Metallica, and he defintely knew how a bass should be worked.

Well, basically the thing is this. Somebody said this about 150 pages ago (rofl), but Jason was basically trying to uphold Cliff's legacy, not surpass it. He accomplished that. He upheld the legacy for the ~15 years he was in Metallica, and he did not surpass it. He headbanged like a mother****er and he sang like a mother****er.
James Van Halen
05-23-2005, 10:25 PM
I think Metallica would've been better if Mustaine would've been like he is now and James would do what he's always done, rythym and singing. If Dave could be the lead guitar and the lead guitar only with maybe backup vocals, then I think Metallica would've been better. And think about it, they would have all of James stuff AND all of Dave's stuff.
so chu do u think original metallica was the best?
edit: do u like megadeath more than metallica?
I think original Metallica was/is the best band, ever.
I think Metallica, until 1986, were the best band, after that, meh, lost interest, and Megadeth released SFSGSW, which is their best release, in my opinion.
So, I like Megadeth now more, but early Metallica ****s on everything.

Had Dave been in Metallica, there would be no Peace Sells or Rust in Peace. No Tornado of Souls, no Peace Sells, no In My Darkest Hour. Consequently, there may not have been Master of Puppets or And Justice For All or Battery.

Mustaine without a doubt.
kirk covered mustaines solos with ease
And Mustaine could do Hammett's solos with ease...
Edit: It's not about the technicality of the solo, in my opinion, I just think Mustaine writes better music. The few solos Hammett made that were any good were during Burton's time, which as I said, was when Metallica were good, after that, well, Hammett's solos were the first to go, then Lars' drumming, and then James' voice...
Also, bear in mind that this is completely my opinion, if you disagree, that's fine by me.
They are both incredible guitarists. Kirk fits what we know as Metallica and he seems to have a lot more chemistry. I can honestly say that I like everything on MOP > everything I like on KEA.
Now to Megadeth, I think they are better now, but I still like Metallica's music better.
Now for Kirk and Dave...
Speed- Dave > Kirk
Skill - Kirk > Dave
Soul - Kirk > Dave
Riff Writing - Dave > Kirk
Luckier, richer, and more famous - Kirk > Dave
My favorite - Kirk > Dave
that's all in my opinion
