They did choose rob over claypool yes.
When Newsted quit Claypool offered to join Metallica because he is one of Kirk's best friends. They said no most likely because he is too good for them.

Your one of many obcessed with the song AJFA, Great song if you ask me!, I have accually just learned the intro to it, Its pretty easy....
So to all the guitarists out there!!! A drummer here can play it! :thumb:
Yeah, I learned all of One the past week. Great song for leads.
Funny how almost my favorite songs on MoP,RTL,AJFL are the self-titleds :P
But, I think I almost like The Call of the Ktulu or For Whom The Bell Tolls better than RTL.

Its all the same really.. They are 100% definatly starting recording their next album January 06 :upset:
They have some song ideas written down...
I have a source that speaks regulary with Lars Ulrich!! His name is Jaymez (Nickname anyways.. His real name is Tiernan, I think I spelt it right, and hes from Beatallica.. The lead singer

Les Claypool offered to join Metallica? I never knew that...their sound with him in the band would be so different than anything so far, I'm willing to bet. He's definitely far more inventive than most bassists out there, although how that would go with Metallica's music to date might not be so good. I'd like to see it though, just to see if they could reinvent themselves successfully after some really mediocre albums. If anyone could help do it, Claypool would be near the top of the list...
wow you haven't posted here in how many years?
Yea, they tried out Claypool and a couple of other pretty good bassists. Check out SKOM, it goes thru their tryouts

Well James and Lars always write the songs often with Kirk and/or whichever bassist and the whole band partook on St. Anger, I personally think Robzilla will write some stuff on this album.

I actually had a dream a few weeks ago that at the Velvet Revolver concert that i'm going to next weekend that they'd have a surprise guest that would turn out to be Metallica... but anyways I think Velvet Revolver would be a cool opener
does anyone no wen a new metallica cd with new songs is coming out it had better be like master of puppets but scince hetfield blew his voice on black album its probly going2 sound like a mix of iron maiden and nirvana like st anger lol.
it better be better than IM or Nirvana. Metallica can't go grunge and the IM singer gets to me after awhile... and it won't be out until '06 or '07. I know you're new, but please try actually typing rather than typing like it's AIM or something. and by the way, welcome to MX

I see no reason to have to have pure thrash bands open for Metallica. Metallica isn't even a thrash band anymore (About half the set or less is going to be from their old school days, yes?). Metalcore is popular at the moment, which would create a crowd pull. Just my view.
To be honest, I don't hugely like Mudvayne, I just love watching Ryan's playing on their videos! :P

They pretty much sell out whereever they go, they don't need to draw any more crowds. Plus, they only play like 3 or 4 newer songs, the majority of a Metallica concert is the thrashier stuff.

Review:The four Horsemen
The four horsemen is the most complex song off their first album,Kill em all. This song also has a lot of history behind it. When dave mustaine was in the band he came up with a song and lyrics called the mechnix, which is about a job of dave's where he was a mechanic and supposedly had sex with a girl in her car that he was fixing. When dave was kicked out of the band, James decided to change the lyrics and add more to the song. He changed the name to the four horsemen. Dave mustaine has the mechanix on Megadeth's first cd: Killing is my business.
The intro is a quick little punk sounding riff which then leads to a sort of slower version of galloping picking. The main riff is a cool sounding palm muted zeros and open power chords. The chorus riff is simply power chords. This whole cycle repeats again and then it goes into a very cool sounding part of the song. It's fast plam muted E string and then plays G to G# on the A string. Then it goes into a part of the song that was added when dave left the band.It is probably one of the coolest sounding riffs ever. It is like a litttle scale followed by power chords. Then it is just plam mutes with open powerchords. then the song goes into a slow interlude which was also added to the song. Kirk adds a solo in this part of the song. It Then it goes back into the Fast palm mutee E string and then the G-G# power chords on the A string. Then it goes back into the main riff and plays the main riff and chorus, then goes back into the Fast palmuted e string and G-G# power chords on the A string, Then Kirk plays a dave mustaine solo to finish off the song. The Lyrics seem much more "metal" than the Mechanix lyrics. The lyrics in this song are more of a power metal band kind of lyrics, different from the rest of the cd.
"By the last breath of the fourth winds blow
Better raise your ears
The sound of hooves knock at your door
Lock up your wife and children now
It's time to wield the blade
For now you have got some company
The horsemen are drawing nearer
on leathere steeds they ride
they've com to take your life
Off to the dead of night
with the four horsemen ride
or choose you fate and die"
The Best part of the song is the part that starts at 2:03 and ends at 3:25
That riff just gives me chills down my spine.
The first solo is very fluid and fits well with the song, it's not as technical and just plain fast shredding like the other solo is. The second solo is a nice way to finish of the song, just a plain thrash speed solo.
Overall I would give this song a 10 out of 10
I think it is just perfect in every way. The best song on the Kill em all album by far.

Sorry, but you just can't compare the Blackened riffs to any other riffs on that album. They are complex and awesome. Plus the solo makes me want to throw up the horns every time I hear it.

One of the best songs on their best album. My favorites are Blackened and Dyers Eve though, they bookmark the album so perfectly.

I liked it. I really like the song, but I don't think I'd give it a full 10. It's one of my favorites on KEA, but I don't think it quite deserves a full 10. Maybe a 9.5 or a 9.0 at the lowest

Seek & Destroy is a classic song too.
Seek and Destroy is pretty good. I'm a big fan of Fight Fire With Fire.
ok well i'll do a review for fade to black
Fade to Black was written in the early 1980s and was released on the 1984 album, Ride the Lightning. It was written after the band's equipment was stolen (I think on a northeast leg, maybe in Boston) and James was depressed about losing his favorite amp with a certain tone he loved (I think it was a marshall stack). I might be completely wrong about James' equipment, but that was the story that I know.
It starts out with a soft, mellow acoustic intro played by James. A few seconds into the acoustic, Kirk begins one of his more soulful and incredible solos. Following the solo, another acoustic riff by James comes into the song (Am, C, G, Em). The interesting thing that I like about this song is that there really isn't a chorus with lyrics, just distorted guitars and heavy drums. Honestly, the little riff right after the chorus I don't really consider a solo. It's kind of like the riffs on For Whom the Bell Tolls, it's just a quick riff a little different that's sort of solo-y but not quite. The "chorus" is followed by another verse of depressing lyrics that sound like someone who wants to commit suicide wrote them.
"Things are not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me.
Deathly lose, this can't be real.
Cannot stand this pain I feel.
Emptiness is filling me,
To the point of agony.
Growing darkness taking dawn,
I was me but now he's gone."
Metallica really came through for the last few minutes of the song. Post 2nd chorus, a brand new heavier riff along with a verse. Fading towards the end, there is a quite "goodbye" followed by the coolest melodic guitar riff I have ever heard. It includes heavy distortion, a great combination of guitar work and overall just amazing tone and creativity. After they finish the whole riff once, they begin again and start a wailing Kirk solo. The solo is full of quick finger movements and triads and was named the 26th greatest guitar solo ever recorded according to Guitar World. These solos are the ones that make me angry when people say "Kirk sucks" or "He's just a shredder." All three "solos" in this song are full of soul, talent, and skill.
Overall, obviously, this song is an 11 out of 10. It combines the softer, quiter talent in Metallica along with the hardcore incredible skill that Metallica consists of.
By the way, if anyone didn't know that's my favorite Metallica song.

My favorite lyrics in that song are
no one but me can save myself but it's too late
now i can think, think why i should even try
Yesterday seems as though it never existed
but death greets me warm, now i will just say good bye
Goodbye"
Coolest lyrics ever.

Ah well. Being the 'best' band is all subject to personal preference. Some people may think that Busted are a better band than Testament or Metallica. You and I know they're wrong, but if they enjoy their music more, who is to say they're wrong? Obviously someone is getting enjoyment out of the music, which is what its about, not rivalry between bands' fans. Not everyone can listen to metal, or even the same metal bands. People are diverse. Live with it. No amount of talent can save bad music or just music people don't want to listen to if executed in some ways.
However, I like Metallica better than most bands, so I wouldn't worry about my liking Busted or something ;)

St. Anger is a great album it was wrote about their emotions it wasnt something they wanted to be really hardcore they wanted to focus on getting the message through for example frantic and unnamed feeling where it really made u feel like u knew what James was going through with his therapy. I liked that CD and all of their CD's, yes St.Anger is not their best work but it is good. but i agree with u metalcritter666 its no their best CD. MOP is probably one of my favorite songs especially the S&M version it shows that a metal band can actually sing and have good technique. which is why i love Metallica, there not afraid of taking chances and when they do they always do a good job...Most people dont like St. Anger very much but it was #1 on the billboards so obviously their doing something right.

Lol, who cares, if a song is good, listen to it. If it's not, then dont. Complaining isn't really going to fix a song, or saint anger for that matter. Believe it or not, its not really S.t Anger that caused a fan outrage... Basically, they brought down Napster which ultimatly pissed people off, loads of fans were burning there cd's on the news and their official site accually got hacked with LEAVE NAPSTER ALONE placed on the main screen...
Anyway, Just as fans start believing in Metallica again, they come out with S.t Anger.... It saw alot of fans off, but as Metallica have always said, We don't make music for the fans, we make music for ourselves, And Me for one am honoured to have Metallica share there music with me...

Critisizing an album will not make it better, I mean, some people claim to hate S.t Anger, yet they spend all their time speaking about it? It doesn't really make sense. Anyone else in here going to enter the Prog Metal contest? I'm trying to combine Metallica with Dream Theater and make an awesome song.
I think Metallica - Enter Sandman
And Dream Theater - Pull Me under
Would make a good song!

Well Enter Sandman is a bit overrated, but something that would sound like that isn't that bad of an idea. Thanks, dude.
I honestly think you are the coolest guy to come out of the 05 crew so far.

I agree its quite overated, but the chugging on the toms at the beginning would fir in well with the dream theater song

Thanks for the advice. I need all the help I can get, I'm not the greatest at writing songs.
On another note, can anyone play Jason's bass solo on the San Diego DVD?
Kickflip_Burrito

I can play most of it but not by heart, I need the tabs infront of me as guidance. The only thing I get stuck on is the second riff in My Friend of Misery. The main riff I can do easily its the second part with the 7's, 5's, 0's and 9's. I know that sounds easy but the movement over the G, D and A strings is annoying.
Can you possibly record it? I really want to hear someone else do it.
I haven't heard it before :(. That makes me sad.

Has any body noticed that the riff on Damage inc that starts at 4:18 sounds alot like one of the battery solos (not to get off topic but i was wonderin).
Someone review a song, how about something from ReLoad.
I can do one, it's just I won't be so interested since FTB is my favorite song and Unforgiven II isn't

what do you guys think about apocalyptica?
I downloaded the Apocalyptica-One song and I think its cool how they have a different horn/violin for the lyrics and guitar and stuff but I would rather listen to the Metallica version on AJFA (this was my first time hearing a symphonic cover)
How did you find out about Apocalyptica and do you know what that means?

I like that apocalyptica. Do they only do metallica covers or what? Those were pretty neat. I like how they added instrumental vocals. Nice stuff. :thumb:
I also liked Dream Theater's cover of MoP although guy's voice was unhetfield, and their stage presence is pretty bad excluding portnoy. But they're great nonetheless.

I cannot play that solo, But I can play the one he does when Jaymez says ''Oh Hell Satan if you please''!!
I play it on a downtuned guitar, take of treble, in fact it sounds lower than a bass...I will record it for you sometime....
P.s I will have a go at the other solo for you, I know My bass play can do it, I will get him to record that one also
Well Enter Sandman is a bit overrated, but something that would sound like that isn't that bad of an idea. Thanks, dude.

What about something like the double bass blasts from One, with some Petrucci speed, I dunno, something from Train of Thought.

Yeah, I agree, Fade To Black is probably my favourite, (Well one of them, Orion > Fade To Black imo, but for lyrics, Fade To Black hands down), I think an instrumental version of Fade To Black would rock, but just cause vocals have never really interested me, and I think the lyrical subject of Fade To Black drags the music down, but could it work the other way?
If you just listen to the music, I get a sense of achievement, but when the lyrics kick in, it's like 'Oh snap!'....
Thanks man, I'll be waiting for the review, I wanna find _decent_ songs from Load/ReLoad (Does such a thing exist? :o) :)
Edit: Just read some of the previous pages, didn't want to double post.
This sellout/posers/fanboys/crap should stop. What happening to people listening to bands for enjoyment? People here complain for every little thing a band does. Lol, who cares, if a song is good, listen to it. If it's not, then dont. Complaining isn't really going to fix a song, or saint anger for that matter. I think everyone understands the album's drums were very messed up, but some people still might like that. Maybe...
Im just hoping on their next album, they make a few softer songs like sanitarium, fade to black, nothing else matters, etc. They should just use normal drum sounds and add solos. That'll make moi happy. :p
I actually know a guy who really liked the drum sound from St. Anger, I can't agree with him, but hey the guy could play Meshuggah's I on guitar, so I wasn't gonna diss his opinion.
Edit 2: I wanna be nice :p
Whats this? Is it some kind of book or summin? Someone please enlighten me! Jason is a king to me!

Decent songs from Load/Reload do exist in my eyes, but I suppose everyones opinons would vary.
From the Load album, my personal favourites are:
The House that Jack built
Hero of the day
King Nothing
Aint My bitch
Untill it sleeps (A little too commercial this one)
From The Reload Album, My favourites are:
Fuel
Low Mans lyric
FiXXXER! (My fav reload song, I love the lyrics)
Attitude
P.S Here is a copy of the Fixxxer Lyrics, I think they are great....
• Fixxxer
(Hetfield/Ulrich/Hammett)
Dolls of voodoo all stuck with pins
One for each of us and our sins
So you lay us in a line
Push your pins, they make us humble
Only you can tell in time
If we fall or merely stumble
But tell me, can you heal what Father's done?
Or fix this hole in a mother's son?
Can you heal the broken worlds within?
Can you strip away so we may start again?
Tell me, can you heal what Father's done?
Or cut this rope and let us run?
Just when all seems fine and I'm pain free
You jab another pin, jab another pin in me
Mirror, mirror, upon thy wall
Break the spell or become the doll
See you sharpening the pins
So the holes will remind us
We're just the toys in the hands of another
And in time the needles turn from shine to rust
But tell me, can you heal what Father's done?
Or fix this hole in a mother's son?
Can you heal the broken worlds within?
Can you strip away so we may start again?
Tell me, can you heal what Father's done?
Or cut this rope and let us run?
Just when all seems fine and I'm pain free
You jab another pin, jab another pin in me
Blood for face, sweat for dirt
Three Xs for the stone
To break this curse a ritual's due
I believe I'm not alone
Shell of shotgun, pint of gin
Numb us up to shield the pins
Renew our faith, which way we can
To fall in love with life again
To fall in love with life again
To fall in love with life again
To fall in love
To fall in love
To fall in love with life again
So tell me, can you heal what Father's done?
Or fix this hole in a mother's son?
Can you heal the broken worlds within?
Can you strip away so we may start again?
Tell me, can you heal what Father's done?
Or cut this rope and let us run?
Just when all seems fine and I'm pain free
You jab another pin, jab another pin in me
No more pins in me
No more, no more pins in me
The subject matter:
It describes how a person (represented by a voodoo doll) has suffered physical and/or mental pain from his father (religious: god).

I finally realised that i shouldn't hold some of Lars' actions against Metallica as a whole. Lars is well.... he's a bit of a Lars sometimes, but i have been listening to an awful amount of Metallica of late, and i just keep loving them more and more every day.
I'm listening to Fade to Black right now. Hands down the best Metallica song.

I guess i would just say Fade to Black is my personal favourite.
I keep liking Metallica more and more, and i have a few favourites now.
I've loved Metallica for years, but i stopped listening to them for about 4 years.
Right now, my favourites are :
Fade to Black, Blackened, One, Dyers Eve, To Live is to Die, Helpless (yes i know it's a Diamond Head song), Motorbreath, Whiplash, For whom the bell tolls, Battery, Seek and Destroy, Metal Militia, Call of Ktulu
