No you ****ing fag, I'm not dumb, Metallica had a different singer for a short time in 1981, so stfu please. James played guitar and some other dude was singing.
When they first started they didnt think that James could sing so they got someone else. He didnt work out so he left, and James took over the singing duties. He stuck and the rest is history.
But this was long before Kill 'Em All or any album release, so idk if "Metallica" ever had another singer, but whatever.
Theres nothing to talk about now since that fag made that really awkward comment.

Well in that case you should probably hate yourself...here a direct guote from Ron McGonvey that you might find interesting:
"At the time it was just Dave playing guitar and James was just singing. It got to the point where James had said that he didn't think he was too good of a singer and he only wanted to play rhythm guitar. So we found this singer named Sammy Dijon who was in a local band called Ruthless - he rehearsed with us for about three weeks but we never played a show with him. They told Sammy it wasn't working out and James went back to singing again."
Ron, fall 1996 SHOCKWAVES
Dont put others in this thread down before youve dont the research...it will only make you look stupid in the end.
1.He was saying that metallica didn't have another singer
2.I never said he was wrong
3.He said it in a dick head manner
4.He was determined he was right and that everyone else was right just like the majority of people in here
He called metalcritter666 dumb...
It was mean to have 'everything' instead of 'anything' in there, I apologise

That's hard to say. Metallica did add some alternative aspects to there albums, but I don't think when that decision was made, money was in mind. Sure, it was a major result later, and that happens to lots of bands, but I don't think either of them said "Let's make alternative music to make money."

Hell yes, both Disposable Heroes and Leper Messiah kick total *** I reckon.
I was listenning to Dream Theater's cover of the MoP album, they completely own the album, they have an extended ending on Orion too (Best song, ever), finishes with some sick bass into guitar. (At first I thought it was a different intro to Damage Inc, but then the intro started so it must have been an extended ending, or maybe just a little jizz played, but it suits Orion so well).

They did it live.
Like, 2003.
Edit: Well I downloaded it, unfortunately I only have it one .mp3 too, so you have to fast forward to get to the songs, but I usually just put it on Battery and leave it. It's not the greatest quality, because it's live, but it's not so bad it's unlistennable.

Yeah, the whole 57 minutes. I don't use AIM, sorry.

Yeah, I'll upload it to YSI for you guys later.
Everything about it kicks ***, and yes while the vocals do lack in some stages, the almost perfect control of their instruments more then make up for it. Portnoy plays Disposable Heroes with perfect accuracy, never missing a beat. (And it's a little bit faster then Metallica).

I think most of its pretty bad... the Battery ones ok, MoP is well played but makes me giggle cuz of Jordan and James, Sanitariums really good apart from the vocals (seriously James... stop), Thingy wasnt bad, Disposable Heroes was ok but I remember something I didnt like about it... Leper Messiah I havent heard, Orion just felt weak on the whole... I dont think John did a great job of it and Damage Inc. was good... but fails to compare to any version of Metallica playing it.

I thought all around DT owned Metallica, well maybe the only thing I didn't like was the lack of bass in Leper Messiah, that was partly because of the live recording I guess though, and obviously James' vocals.
I really liked Disposable Heroes though, Portnoy was amazing.

Thats not possible to play a song better than the original writer, if u are playing it the way that they wrote it. The best is the way that they made it. Plus James H's vocals pwn James L's.

Hey Guys, Just thought I would update the Metallica thread with some 'NEWS AND INFO!' for your viewing pleasure :D Enjoy....
At 10:28 p.m. EST on Wednesday (March 2), the official Metallica Forum was hacked by someone declaring himself to be Habibi, reports Blabbermouth.net. The result was a lot of Metallica fans posting whatever they could to get answers. The inital response was "This is what you get for ****ing with me!" in the only forum available to post messages in, "**** You".
Check out a screenshot of the hacked page here (http://www.blabbermouth.net/metallica_hacked.jpg).
In their March interview, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said that the band planned to get back to the studio in January '05. He revealed that the ideas and inspiration for new songs came up from pre-show jam sessions, that being always recordered. "So there's some pretty crazy stuff that comes up every night, and I definitely look forward to shifting through some of that stuff," declared Lars. To put it mildly, January is close -- just relax and watch out for news reports on UG on the subject.
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has confirmed the heavy metal band will be immortalized in a computer game, reports ContactMusic.com.
Poking fun at last year's Metallica documentary "Some Kind Of Monster", Ulrich has also made it clear there will be no group therapy levels in the game. The 41-year-old says, "With the computer game, there is definitely truth to that (appearing).
"It won't just be a game where you have to get Lars and James and Kirk through the tour without breaking up, or any of that horse****."
However, Ulrich has dismissed the possibility of a Metallica greatest hits album: "As far as a hits record is concerned, that's not something we're entertaining."
One of the "Some Kind Of Monster" documentary's finest moment is when he tells James Hetfield to **** himself:
Serial killer Richard Paul White, one of Colorado's most notorious killers, recently spoke from jail about his crimes, reports Blabbermouth.net. He has confessed to six murders in the Denver area. A lifetime of untreated mental illness, heavy metal music and violent movies drove him to kill, he said, in an exclusive interview with CBS4 Denver News reporter Rick Sallinger.
Music was a big influence in his life, White said. His spree of killing was accompanied by a soundtrack of heavy metal. "Metallica probably the most," he said. A set of lyrics stand out: "Guilty as charged, but **** it, it ain't right, there's someone else controlling me." (from Metallica's "Ride The Lightning")
"Me and James lived together for four years. We lived in the same room. I'd sleep in that corner, he'd sleep in that corner and he'd have his girlfriend around in his and I'd sit there and listen to them have sex.
Q: Did you and Jaymez ever share girls??
"I can't say that hasn’t happened. You know you’ve got to remember I met him 24 years ago. He is my brother in arms."

I have a video of DT playing MoP live, and I'm not gunna lie, they sounded a little better than Metallica did playing MoP live.
What nobody mentioned about DT so far is that when you see them live it's like you're looking at their picture and listening to their cd. They have no stage pressence. Imo, you can just find a picture of their concert, put it in front of you, let the cd play, and you have DT concert. Metallica guys aren't so fronzen on stage. You get the point. I mean, petrucci might play guitar part more accurate than metallica does live, but it can't be better than what is on CD. Because that's how the song is supposed to be. Plus lebrie's voice isn't comparable to hetfield since they sound so different.
They take too many vacations for a band that makes music that bad.
And you're not dead yet?
Let me go act like an idiotic moron, post something stupid about a band in their official thread.
I'm just stating my factual opinion.

Just because you *think* they work hard, doesn't make it true. I can say metallica works hard, but it wont make it true either. They aren't video taped on camera 24/7 so we can actually see whether they're lazy or not.
I've been listening to St. Anger today. People were so wrong. This CD isn't that bad at all.
Yea, St. Anger is a pretty kickass album. I just wished they would have used normal drums like in concerts. Notice how in concerts st. anger songs sound way better.
One of the "Some Kind Of Monster" documentary's finest moment is when he tells James Hetfield to **** himself:
I personally dont think that is the finest moment. It wasn't that fine.

There stage presence is lacking (except Portnoy was pretty energetic I noticed, but so is Lars in shows but meh) but they did sound better. LaBrie may not sound like Hetfield, buy it was still a great performance. The studio version of MoP is way better than what I think DT would do in the studio, but when you compare the lives DT is the winner IMO.
Edit: Plus, the attitude of these arguments seem to try and prove that they didn't sound enough like Metallica in the song. That just isn't the point. I doubt DT set out to sound just like Metallica.

I personally thought D.T were not as clean as Metallica, Also DT do not seem to motivate the crowd, they just sing the lyrics as written...
I have the Unnamed feeling Single, that has master of puppets live with Rob Trujillo playing, I compared that (My most recent version of live MOP, with DT) Me and my G/F both prefered the tallica version... DT did an awesome job though, and they have alot of my respect for that!

LaBrie did add his own touch to the vocals. He didn't leave them untouched.
They did get the crowd going aswell.
Considering the crowd was smaller then what is usually at a Metallica concert, they made it huge. The crowd was going off.

Well bad stage presence usually does mean the crowd wont get pumped up as much. It all depends on the fans I guess.
Also I liked 2004's live version of mop at rock in rio. I dont really know if i liked it more than the original, but I do prefer it more than DT's version.
Lol, LaBries vocals sucked. Sounded like a dying horse ffs. Original>New
Although I must say, Petrucci captured Hammetts distortion just perfectly.

LaBrie's vocals aren't great, but they're not horrible either.
They don't add anything to it, but that's fine in my opinion. (Except the "Speak to me!!" and then solo, I reckon LaBrie does better then James there).
And they get the whole **** crowd going, it's not a huge crowd like a Metallica concert would bring in, but they get going like it is.

Don't you think taking 5 years to make an album like St. Anger is a bit rediculous?
Plus, Maiden unlike Metallica never changed their music at an attempt to make more money, regardless of what James might say.

Oh I know, and they had no problems or interruptions along the way or anything! Man, those guys are slow.
Edit:
And you know what, I'm getting a little ticked about how much this sell out crap is being brought up. If you were offered an opportunity to make a grossly large ammount of money, and make different but good music, you'd probably take it. Maybe you wouldn't. Great, you're a fecking hero, but that doesn't mean doing such a thing is horrible. Making money is how we live in this world, why not make more?

Albums are different, bands change. The whole music industry is driven by greed. I mean come on St. Anger is a lot better than a lot that other bullsh*t that infests the radio now. St. Anger has it's moments, but hey that reminds me, maybe I need to listen to it again.

It's always been a known fact that Metallica changed alot between ...And Justice for All. Everyone knows that. That doesn't mean the music sucks. All of their albums are great. Also, S&M is one of the best live albums I have ever heard, if not the best.
Sliptallica speaks the truth.
They sold out, **** happens, you would too, and don't anyone try and say you wouldn't.
But yeah, the lyrics are "Speak to me!" (The part at 5:41 so you know we're talking about the same thing) I personally think LaBrie does it better then Hetfield, but otherwise Hetfield does the songer better.

The Truth About Metallica
The way I see it is, If you are a fan, and I am sure everyone wants to be, noone would need any suggestions.
A true Metallica fan, like myself, knows his favorites, and then knows everybody elses idea of favorite.
I can suggest a list of my favorites and why
1) nothing else matters (It has a classical feel to it along with a solo to die for.
2)Battery (Awesome *** combination of riffs and solos
3)and justice for all (acoustic intro turns into a distorted party clash)
4)fuel(speedy intro with a decent solo)
that is just a short list. I actually like all of Metallica's songs except the songs on st.anger. I understand the meaning of st.anger but the drums just dont sound right. I think Lars might have lost his mind a couple years ago when james went to rehab. it was lars that said "our fans want us to be the leaders in changing Rock and Roll forever"
I totally agree.
Don't we all want them to come out with an album that makes you bust a nut in 5 seconds flat? why the hell not?
But it takes a matter of trial and error.
they were just giving the album a try and failed.
they know it, we know it, and everybody knows it.
but, it takes a true metallica fan to have the respect and understand that they are not perfect.

Ok, first, show me proof where metallica members say they chose to change their style because they wanted to be more popular and earn more money. Is it impossible that they were tired of their old stuff and wanted a change? And coincidentally that change was liked by more poeple and more people bought their albums. You need to understand that not all bands want to have their career into same type of music. Some want to change styles because it gets old playing same **** everyday. Iron maiden is a great band, and Im really pissed fans like you don't really deserve to be their fans. I like both bands, and Im not going to flame any of them if they decide they want to take a time out and spend time with their family. It's normal for a father to live with his family and spend time with his young son/daughter.

Lars rarely did the double bass in One this tour..I heard about 20 boots of One from this tour and he did the double-kick 2 or the 20.
Dyers Eve was crap for Lars, he couldn't keep up with it. As you grow older, stuff like that takes it's toll. Think about doing that every night for two years, then stopping for a year, then 2 years, etc.
Apocalyptic Raids

Well considering he supposedly had to record it in three separate intervals, it's not really suprising that he can't keep up 10 or so years later. Many drummer the same age as lars do more double kick in gigs, so thats not much of an excuse.

Thats the only way to go. If they ever played new stuff, they would get booed by many people.
Metallica will never get booed at their own concerts. Trus me.

Exactly. And they play newer st. anger songs at almost every concert. They played frantic and st. anger in portugal and people loved it. But of course, st. anger songs do sound alot better live.

Yeah, they do without the high-pitched snare sound. And they did a guitar solo in Dirty Window. And I know I would never boo Metallica unless they made a really shitty song.
james said in an interview that his dad passed away in 1990 or somewhere around that *doesnt remember*
It was around the Load/Reload era. 1996 I believe, just before or after Load came out.

Well, that's all subjective. None of us really know how affected and in what way James was by it. I don't know when his mum died exactly, but it was pre-Black Album, hence 'The God That Failed'.

james mum died when he was 12
metalcritter666

The God That Failed is actually about the religion he was brought up with as a child, he was a Christian Scientist. He said "It was very alienating for me as a child" and it caused some complications with his social life and wasn't allowed to attend certain classes. So that song is about that.

lilmetallica has it right. That is the meaning of the song. God failed to save his mum, when she put all her faith in him to save her.

Yes, that definately was what drove James to write the song. He doesn't mention that on the interview though, it can be quite misleading.

The song is about both. He was raised as a Christian Scientist since his family was Christian Scientist, and his mother did not want medical help for her ongoing battle with cancer in which she believed that God would save her. She died, hence the god that failed.

Yea, Its quite suprising accually what some of them really mean! I took Metallica - Mama Said lyrics and Metallica - Fade to Black lyrics into school about 2 years before I left and showed them to my English teacher, I said what do these mean (Just to see if he got them right!)
He got the Mama said lyrics Bang on target, And got 90% of the Fade to black lyrics correct... He told us he was really good at understanding poetry, so I put him to the test lol...
When he asked who they were written by I said 'Metallica', He said he did research on how they played Enter sandman on loop to prisoners of war lol, Its a known fact they either cracked and told soldiers all they knew, Or commited suicide!!!
I was shocked when I found out Cliff Burtons brother died at 15 years of age from cancer :upset:
