has anyone heard the original version of the prince?

i think that metallica really butchered the song....they took off the solo, there are no organs (makes the song sound a bit empty without them), and the drumming kinda stinks.....

Almost all the metallica's covers are better than the original.

I do think some of the Metallica covers are better than the originals, but not all.
I personally think Metallica's version of Whiskey in the jar is 80% better than the original, most will disagree but the song seems to have been brought to life by Metallica, Not just that the video is amazing!!! Anyone ever saw it??

I have never heard Diamond Headz - Prince, in fact I have never heard a single song by Diamond head, I think it would be worth listening to though.

I always loved the song Turn the page from Garage INC, Number 4 I think... I thought it was a very light and melodic song, broke the album up a little also, so it was really good. I was shocked when I heard the original by Bob Seger though lol!! I thought it would be quite heavy, but erm... I guess not lol...

Who originally performed So ****ing What??? Great song, Would be cool to hear the original.

I don't think it did, because the mainstream stuff was all that glam metal stuff and metallica was pretty much an unknown band. It probably didn't sell too well at the beginning, but then started getting momonetum, and started to sell some copies, which lead to their second album, which probably did much better because they were more known.

Huber
04-25-2005, 10:37 PM
In the 80s, pop was manufactured because people didn't want people listening to metal. Thrash wasn't known until later in the 80s.

Huber
04-25-2005, 10:40 PM
Yesterday I was trying to say this about the people bashing Kirk and James in the guitar polls when gocaps was defending them, but I couldn't get it out right. This guy said it just right.

I think what it is, it's becoming popular to contradict anything that remotely starts to be the majority opinion of certain people.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that everyone wants to be the one going against the grain. It ends up that everyone is going against the grain.

Award winning post IMO

I think that the solo should be long if needed and short if needed. IE the FtB end solo goes on for a good 2 mins or so and it should be like that, but the Unforgiven solo is only around 40 seconds. I think it should be that way.

Technicality is useless if it doesn't sound as good. In my opinion kirk's solos sound good. It doesn't matter that some rookies (not really rookies) can play them. In fact, all the bands I like, I like them because they sound good and not because of how they're technical or what not. But yea, megadeth's solos are more complex, I just don't find them as interesting and as good sounding as metallicas. (Kirk's solos are great, and Hetfield's solos kick a$$ imo)

Megadeth and Heaten shred, that's why i don't like them. Kirk's older solos are incredible and his new solos are cool.

No offence, but you aren't really in a position to judge Megadeth solos. They don't just shred all the time.

Megadeth solos aren't always shredding, gocaps. Even their fast ones aren't really shred compared to say, Yngwie, or in thrash terms, Forbidden.

Metallica's solos are usually played at a similar speed to Megadeth's, but Megadeth's have much more technicality.

yeah but megadeths solos sont sound as good to me. Idk y, it just seems like there is too much going on for me to enjoy it. Metallicas are a perfect fit for there style, as are megadeths. but i like metallicas a lil more.

I like Metallica's songs more and the solos fit better. But you can't deny Mustaines talent, I think although it is very technical, it still has a lot of feeling.

Mustaines not even better than Friedman though.

I think he is. He hasn't got his reputation as a great guitarist just because he was in Metallica, you know.
