What is your avatar?
It changes all the time, but currently it is a random thing that I cleverly made in paint...
As for tunings:
Kill, Ride, Puppets, Justice, Black were in standard tuning and the Ramones covers on the St. Anger singles were too (and "Electric Remote", a very rare song which I didn't even know existed and I'm still not sure of it's existance)
Load, Reload, Garage (I don't own), S&M were in Eb
St. Anger in Drop C.
There are however a few exceptions...."The Thing That Should Not Be" is in Drop D, as is "Devil's Dance". "Sad But True" and "Whiskey In The Jar" was in FULL D, "The God That Failed" was in Eb, "Bad Seed" and "Dirty Window" are in Drop C#.
Invisible Kid actually uses two different tunings for both guitars (James uses Drop G#, which is now how they play it live), and Kirk uses a weird tuning....
low to high D# G# D# F# A# D# with a DigiTech Whammy Pedal to hit the low notes.
Live tunings: All songs which are in standard are now played in Eb, as well as the other Eb songs. Seek And Destroy however is now played in Full D, and TTTSNB is played in Drop C#. I think Devil's Dance is too.
Originally posted by i was promised lies
I think that one of the reasons the tuning has gone down is that James cant sing like he used to, his voice has gotten deeper, so he cant reach the high notes that he could when he was 20 odd, their old stuff is now in Eb, as they play it live, the s&m dvd gives some indication, and probably its also ease of tuning for everyone, i hate trying to go from standard to Eb for two different songs if i want the same tone from one guitar
This is true.
Well, I hope that cleared up any doubt about Metallica guitar tunings...:thumb:
And Creeping_deth, why do you hate gothikid13?

I just saw "Some kind of Monster" and I thought it was cool. I know it took me a while but alas, I am a cheap bastard. It was pretty cool getting to see how they worked and what it was like (sorry for the cliche) behind the scenes. How do you guys think the band would be now if Newsted was still in? I like em now, always have always will. But I wonder what it would be like if they had put all the crap away, gone through it with Jason and still come out getting rid of all the troubles they had. Rob is the man as far as I'm concerned but it would have been sweet if they had stayed together.

Yeah, Metallica is awesome. Im learning some of their old stuff on drums.
-Disposable Heroes
-One
-The Frayed Ends of Sanity
-To Live is To Die
I'm learning pieces of those right now. They're all really fun. Lars is the best.

Well, St. Anger wouldn't have appeared, that's for sure. I don't know, I have a feeling they might have either broken up, or made a ReReLoad

Im here to creat a new winning toward the endless battle of metal!
I was at school today and I have a metallica patch on my jacket...so this girl comes up to me and is like "metallica sucks" or something like that. And I notice this girl is carrying around a notebook with maralyn manson on the fron and I say: "maralyn manson is nothing but a show, hes not even a musical artist and your telling me metallica sucks? Manson belongs in the circus." and she gets all mad and says: "well all metallica does is scream" and Im like alright you wanna hear a song were they dont scream? And I play fade to black and everyone who hears it loves it and she feels like the bit ch she is.
I won a battle for the metal world! Metal malita join arms and FIGHT!!

Yeah i get **** literally every day for liking metallica. There are only like 3 people in my grade that like them.
I get the same stuff but worse. Of course i get the ever so popular "all they do is scream", which i just respond with "you are an ignorant fool, never talk about music again". I also get the even worse "Metallica cant even play there instruments good" this i just turn away, dont even respond to.
And i always play fade to black for people that talk **** because it breaks all metal stereotypes.
I didn't know you were in the Metallica Club.....maybe if I join I won't have to keep bugging everyone for a key code.

No its not free, i paid $50 for the year, there are a bunch of different deals you can get, i got the highest one up.
With the thing i got you get, a shirt, so what! magazines(i forget how many), and stuff from the band with autographs. You also get acces to the club shop which has all these shirts for like $8 its amazing.

Metal is vastly stereotyped as just screaming around here. I don't give them Fade To Black though, I normally show them Power Metal or something.
But yeah, I get a little tired of people I don't even know just walking up to me going "Meeeetaaaaaaaaaalllliiiiiiiiiiiiiicaaaaaaaaaaaaa!" in a screaming voice acting like there cool. I hate those people. A lot.

sorry to change the subject...but I think everyone who tries to roast metal should have to listen to atleast one full song. Most of the people who think metallica sucks havent even heard a metallica song...and if they did probably not the entire thing. Its really lame to do that kinda stuff and say that kinda stuff when you dont even know what your talking about.
I made sure that before I said rap and hip-hop was all bout drugs and ****ing hoes I listened to a few popular rap and hip-hop songs. IT was hell but I did it before I judged and I came to the conclusion that not all rap is like that...but most is.
I just hate it when people judge before they know what there talking about. thats a thing I really cant stand.

Is there a particular reason why "hardcore old school" Metallica fans would rather stick their privates in a mouse trap than listen to St. Anger? What's so bad about it? So it's not the same but it's still the same band more or less. I'm not attacking anyone here I just want to know why is it that so many people don't really like it that much. I think it's pretty good and I like "Some Kind of Monster" better than "St. Anger". Is it because it's such a huge change from their old stuff? I don't get it.

Most people that refuse to listen to saint anger just because it's different are close minded people that also say, I wont listen to pop punk because it's poppy, or I hate nu metal because all bands suck (which is not true btw). I think that sums it up. :thumb:

After changing my mind for the 3rd time, I think Metallica will go with a new sound. They will not go for the St. Anger sound again (hopefully) because I don't think they enjoyed the album as much as others (especially Kirk) and James said the St. Anger sales figures were "a bummer".

And on there next album i hope they have some ****ing solos(unlike all of st.anger) I think only drumers will get what i am saying here, i think in there next album lars needs to dampen his dam snare head. it has far too much ring(I.M.O.).

I don't believe any of you, unless you're logical.
I've been playing guitar for three years and I can only play a handful of WHOLE metallica songs CORRECTLY. A lot of MXers say they've been playing for less than a year and can play some really hard songs. bull?
Yes it is possible, but i don't believe you could quite do it correctly yet unless in the past four months you've had incredible lessons. Not to put you down or anything, you can learn it eventually, but it took me a long time to finally put together Fade to Black and Master of Puppets

I think that after they came out with St. Anger and seeing the negative response they got from the fans that have always been there, even through load, reload and napster, that they will want to change there style and make something to satisfy every1.
Definately, Metallica are not stupid. They've done too much of that please ourselves only bull, they could make great music which everyone of us would appreciate and enjoy it. I feel Rob will have a positive impact on the band also with his dexterous playing superior to that of Bob and Jason and rival to Cliff's. On a side note, who does backing vocals in 'The Unnamed Feeling'?

haha, double post.
I wouldn't say they were that old, granted, not all rock bands are still together at an average age of 41, but look at Angus Young. He is well into his 50s and can still do his weird...dance thingy....and Iron Maiden, they are all approaching their 50th birthday and can still rock.

Yeah, so did I, I found a guitar tab with the bass part notated for guitar so I assumed it was a guitar...:upset:...but then I saw Cliff play it and realized it was bass (looked at bass tab to make sure), and you can see Jason play it on Live Sh!t.

Metallica is my favorite band, but seriously, thats just too much. 18000+ listens?
Okay i did the math, he has been a member since March 17, 2004, which was 395 days ago. He has listened to 18592 Metallica songs. So that comes out to 47 metallica songs a day, just on his computer not including his car or anything else.
And if u figure 5 min on average for every Metallica song thats comes out to 4 Hours of listening to Metallica every day for the past 13 months.
Wow, he probly listens to Metallica more then Metallica!

My favourite end is The Outlaw Torn, it fades out a poor album.

I think Poor Twisted Me is a horrible song. The song isn't Metallica for a start, it's pretty much blues. James' vocals are horrible, it's boring, the solo is rubbish, gah!. I hate it. A lot of the songs from the Load era are pretty shoddy. ie. Better Than You, Slither, Bad Seed, Fixxxer, Low Man's Lyric, 2x4, The Memory Remains (singing old woman? come on...), Ronnie and Cure (the 2nd half of the song is awful).
There are a few underated songs from that time too: The Outlaw Torn, Thorn Within, Wasting My Hate, Where The Wild Things Are, Attitude.
I also think they should have done a cover of Raining Blood, they played part of that live once...but Garage Inc is a tribute album by Metallica so it kinda wouldn't work.
My fav St. Anger song? Either Invisible Kid, Dirty Window or The Unnamed Feeling.
