not what they want
but what they can
Do u not like them?
Or are u saying they are too old to create a good album.
They are too old to make an album that had any intensity like RTL and MOP had, which is why we're all speculating a Black Album re-make basically. I think they can do some songs the style of the 80's but I think they're getting old.
Back to a few posts ago, Metallica should not be creating music for what people want to hear. That's when a band becomes a "sell-out." A band should create music for the artistic expression, not for the public opinion

Well i love metallica and almost everything they have ever made. And i really hate to say it, but they are sell outs thanks to Bob Rock. And so thats y i really hope that they got rid of him and it wasnt some kind of ****ing april fools joke.
did that guy say they were better with bob?
I didn't say they were 'better' with Bob, and it made perfect sense if you read it.
I meant exactly as gocaps said, they are too old to make 'good' music anymore, so I think them losing Bob Rock this late into their careers was a bad idea.
If anything, they should have lost Rock during or before Load.
^thank you. Losing Bob Rock wouldn't do anything big for they're career. They are getting old everyone, and they won't be able to produce music as well as they did 20/25 years ago no matter who the producer is. They're good friends with Bob which means they still have a producer which means that there is still Metallica music.
Don't worry everyone, you'll like the new cd. I bet on it.

Actually, I'm kinda thinking, if people hype it up to be this huge masterpiece, and what they come out with doesn't satisfy people, then it's going to be a St. Anger all over again. (Except St. Anger's hype was from Metallica themselves, saying the album would be a return to thrash days (Which it really was, compared to Load, but not so much compared to Master of Puppets), so people listenned to it, heard a new style and were like "This is ****", thus begun the St. Anger bashing, which if any of the self-titled Metallica fans truly listenned to, they would understand that it is good, it was made during a time, the closest the band has ever been to breaking up, Metallica are definately one of the giants in the music industry, so something that can make them consider breaking up, is obviously huge. Yet for some strange reason, people don't realise this, and compare this work, to previous work).
Very true. I'm excited just because I know that because of the bashing of the last album that this one will be better, or they wouldn't even bother with putting it out. I know that St Anger is good. It's a lot better than many people think. Yes I miss guitar solos, and yes the songs are long, but there isn't anything wrong with the riffs. In fact, they're incredible. Yes I do know it won't be as thrashy as Master of Puppets, but I also know that it won't suck
I wasn't talking about you, so much.

Mettallica has just lost touch with their roots and by that I mean they are not playing in the vein of their thrash metal influencers such as Venom, Mottorhead, and the such. Yes, i feel there may be a delay, I know they are working on the Metallica computer game at the moment also. I know these band games have not really been much of a success in the past, but i do feel this one might just be half decent, But even if its not i will still get it just to have it lol, Any idea what consoles it is due to be released on anyone??? ex: XBox,PS2,N64?? what do you think the chances of a band like metallica would make it today?
at the moment i wouldnt think theyd have a chance. but if metallica (and for that matter all the heavy 80s US bands ie. megadeth anthrax) went back to their older sounding stuff on the next album they might have a chance because it would be popularized again.

I know what you mean...its means something to like a certian band or sports team threw the thick and the thin...but then if that band or sports team comes back into fashion theres always gonna be people jumping on the "band"wagon because they wanna be cool. I hate that too! Ive played shows before and at the end of the gig everyone pretends there way into the music I played and all that becuase they want me to give them something or they want to meet the guys in the band or they want me to come jam with them and they just plain dont know anything about they kinda music I play up in the stage...they just think its cool that im fast, or that there are a bunch of chics back stage or something like that...which really is not cool. I even knew this girl one time that wanted to get with me so she tried to convince me that she like metallica and she listened to metallica because she saw me on stage playing some licks...which was super not cool!
But on the other hand I would love to see teh 80s speed/shred metal come back because I hate no other music more than the type that is commercialy active right now. I think all the nu-metal, black metal, all the heavy metal stuff and lighter rock right now is about the worst music this planets seen in the last...I dont know how many years. Probably since the beatles.

Im gonna have to go with Ride The Good Old Lightning. I really like what they were doin in 81, 82, and 83 and I would give anything to get my hands on some free demo downloads from those time periods...but anyway I like RTL because kirk does some really kick *** things on that album. Trapped Under Ice has a Hammett buffet and I really love Fade To Black(should have done more like it in the 80s). Puppets was good, dont get me wrong, but I dont think it was anything compared to what they were doing in 84 and before. My favorite album overall Kill em all and any recordings before that!

yea most of the words you can understand, and once you read the lyrics all the words make sense.
I'm going to say Ride the Lightning. Ride the Lightning has my absolute favorite song, Fade to Black, and I think the guitar work is better. Yes Master of Puppets has some great guitar work, but I just like RTL a lot better. Master of Puppets was better recorded however

I agree, a lot of people who are classic Metallica fans (not there new stuff) seem to not like it as much. I dont know much about bass so i wouldnt be able to comment on how that changed, but other than that it certainly sounds like there most advanced album musicially.

2:...and justice for all-good beggining roff,soft,then into a hard riff,love the solo

6:harvester of sorrow:i really like this song, good tom part in the beggining, good solo
7:the frayed ends of sanity: one of the weaker tracks on justice, but still ghood,i like the speaker switching in the beggining
8:to live is to die-a good instrumental,their best,tribute to cliff,r.i.p.
9:dyers eve-a very good song, kind of shows the strengths of hammet, hetfield, and ulrichs songwriting ability, very passionate song

Psh, I love the Black Album and Loads. But if I'm in a '**** **** up' kind of mood, nothing helps better than Justice. If you're listening to the later stuff, listen to it for what it is (finely crafted music, that is very listenable and all round quality stuff), not what it isn't. If you want to listen to old school thrash, go listen to KEA.
Still, one of my favourite albums is S&M. And one of my favourite tracks off of that is Hero of the Day, so its not as if the Load/Reload stuff is bad.

I would Probably say:
RTL
KEA
MOP

My top three are almost interchangable and i even go through phases when ..and justice for all sneaks in aswell. I think Ride The Lightening is the best because it still has that awesome heavy sound but shows evidence of the band maturing (fade to black). Although Master of Puppets also does this aswell and includes my favorite metallica song (Sanitarium), it just seemed to me that it didn't extend enough on RTL or take them to any new levels.
The reason fo my placement of KEA is that it is the bands debut and is flawless from start to finish, which is some acchievement. I probably prefer the more matured metallica albums and songs but KEA is metal from start to finish and is great when in a ****ty mood.

sorry, it is not your fault. It's just the way you worded it I think. And also you claim not to like the way the band have "sold out" and then say the black album is your favorite. It is not a problem that the black album is your favorite, its just a contradiction because it is widely considered this is when the band hit the mainstream.

That would make sence, no offence to any megadeth fans in here but i think kirks post-KEA solo;s are way more complex then Dave/James material.

Where can I hear Exodus era Hammett? I'd really like to have some early bootlegs. Because he didn't record with them. If I'm not wrong Bonded By Blood came out in 1985.

Yes, the album will probably come out around March Next year... But if they could they may try and release it for christmas
Kirk
Except Mustaine is on the first two songs...i think.
to sandtrap - If you buy Cunning Stunts DVD it has alot of the old stuff except it does have about 3 songs off load/re-load if i remember: fuel, aint my bitch. hero of the day. Towards the end they do a Ride the lightening / Kill 'em all medly though which is very very cool and consists of about 5 songs.

james was the only singer right

It wont. None of their albums have sucked, so i doubt this will
yeah it definately won't suck, but i am very interested to where it is gona go?
It wont be like St Anger because i doubt very much that they would do another non-stop aggressive record. They wont go back to their old style because it will look like they are going backwords or giving in. I do hope Kirk puts a bit of effort into this one though, He barely made any worthwhile contributions musicallt to St Anger

I like st. anger more than load/reload. I dont really care what metallica releases, like he said all of their albums have been great. Some better than the others obviously. They can't have every single album be as great as each other. It would be pretty stupid that way.

Im pretty sure it had nothing to do with the tuning. I remember on SKOM lars said solos were classic and he wanted something new. Kirk actually wanted solos on the album.

What if they pull an Opeth and do a mellow album and a heavy album. I think that would be awesome.

But that would just be copying Opeth. And then if they DID do that, everybody would be bitching and complaining that Metallica copied Opeth. Metallica should just do their own thing.
That only worked with Deliverence and ****ation and I think it should stay that way.

ya sorta made me really unproud of that song all of a sudden because I was wondering why it sounded so good to me. The actual music is not similiar, but the structure is almost a complete rip off

I just think that his presence isn't felt on St Anger. You can hear the drums, rythem and bass guitar really loudly but Kirk just seems crowded out. I think alot of it comes from the powerful new sound in the album and perhaps he just isn't a strong enough character to let himself be heard. I'm pretty sure Kirk wanted solos in that album, but he seemed to get persuaded otherwise.

Cliff played that with fingers as well...it's not actually that hard to train your fingers to be faster.
Edit: This isn't to bash Rob btw, Robzilla is my inspiration besides Steve Harris. However, people give Rob credit for playing Battery with fingers when Cliff did it too. :x
