I disagree. When I listen to most bands I don't feel any emotions and rap songs actually usually have more meaning than rock songs. Also, you are being stereotypical. I bet you would get pissed if someone who listens to rap came up to you and goes "ha! you listen to metal, all it is is people in masks screaming in a microphone!"

I'm happy to see you "lied" a song off St. Anger.
I agree, St. Anger isn't very good, but "gay" is a completely inappopiate word in this context. Maybe downhill or worse is a better word. It's just a different direction which they experimented in for the first and I'm sure, last time.

BRING BACK RIDE THE LIGHTNING!!!!!
Look, they dont need you to live. They have been through everything, including fame, fortune, underground world, everythign.... And now they're doing what they want to. Notice how St. Anger is very different than anything they've ever done before. Hell, they started recording that album in a mobile studio. That just shows they dont want to make something like in the old days. I think St. Anger is a very good album. I wouldn't say it's not as good as first 4, but it certainly isn't as trashy as those first 4 or 5. If next album, they come out with an acoustic album, dont be suprised. So right now, they're doing what they want. It's not for money, fame, bad-*** attitude, to look cool, etc. Again, they've gone through all of that. So, I'll tell you again, if you want ride the lightning, go buy it, and listen to it, because Im 99% positive that they wont even try going into that direction again.
How come everyone spells thrash wrong?

They think they look cool by listening to the bands' unknown/less popular songs. Imo that's stupid. I listen to any song if it sounds good. I could care less from which album it was, how much money it made, how unpopular it was, etc.

actually, I'd agree with this guy. Just because hes late (st.anger bashing days are over my friend) doesn't mean his opinions don't count. The guy wasn't mindlessly bashing metallica, he admitted to liking their old days, and he didn't come in here to spread hate.
Don't tell me that none of you have voiced your displeasures about St.Anger so don't go around tryin to 'own' people because your more up-to-date.
however, drp or whoever is being flamed, skip the childish swears (unless used properly) and big white fonts to make your point. What your saying is actually right, but you still sound like a little kid (and thats a no-no).
So on that, I'd say everyone else over-reacted.
Its strange how opinions can get out of style sometimes and you get flamed for your honest (and sensible i hope) post, and sometimes, the same opinion or idea is viewed through many people and you get thousands of rep points (we wish now).
Thats just something odd I find on these forums. Very inconsistent with opinions and everything to do with that word.

ok .... metallica will always be metallica.. whatever they play or how they're sound might change... good or bad in everyones opinion.. they will still be the metal rockers that did great songs and if u like metallica.. u like em ..so mayb their new ones arent that good... they still rock ... u shouldnt blow em off for that... METALLICA FANS ALWAYS WILL BE METALLICA FANS NO MATTER WHAT THEY DO
I completely agree
I dont mean to be an asshole but im sick of seeing the same questions being asked every day. If u really want to know what every1's favorite solo is just use the search function.
Im sure its been answered a million times in the 765 pages of this thread.
Thankyou, I get friggin' sick of answering the same questions over and over again

I could go on forever, so I'll stop now.. Hell, For Whom the Bell Tolls is a better story incorporation into a metal song.
pardon my humble opinion, but I have heard none of those songs (ever), so don't be so quick to assume that I'm some fanboy denying other songs their greatness. But FWTBT isn't really Metallica's own story, nor is it horror. Its just another rant about governments/war (with respect)

Isn't bells based on a Spanish poem of the same name. I saw it on a documentry but they didn't refer to Metallica.
And most of them songs are by Iron Maiden i.e Paschendale, Run to the hills, Blood Brothers etc

Basically, Burton got the rest of the band reading the gothic horror novels of HP Lovecraft (a bit poo tbh), and James liked them a lot. Call of Ktulu takes its name from the many tales of Cthulhu (there is also an RPG based off them, called Call of Cthulhu). Lyrics on TTTSNB are also heavily inspired by Lovecraft (stranger eons, death may die, for example), and a story of a half fish man!
FWTBT is based on a book and film of the same name. Its a war story as far as I know (never seen/read it).

What could what song be about? Sanitarium? A mental hospital where the patients admit themselves. Yet deep down, they know they shouldn't be there. The end is the rebellion rising up inside. We don't know what's going to happen, but killing the doctors, or entertaining the thought of it seems to be the jist.

I think Trujillo is a bad ***, however some of the solo's I have were not all that great, I think Newsted had some better solo's. I believe Trujillo can play a lot better than what he did in some of these solo's. Maybe he was nervous or was not really use to playing solo's. I am sure he will get better at soloing his next time out. There are however, about 3 of the 8 solo's where he totally kicks ***

Question: What were some of the songs Hammet played with Exodus before he joined Metallica? Are there any videos that shows Kirk with Exodus before joing Metallica?
I think Kirk has a bit of stuff on Bonded By Blood, there's an un-released Exodus song called Deathrow that i think he may have had a hand in writing. Also, the song Impaler off the new Exodus album he co-wrote. There are probably bootlegs of Kirk with Exodus on video

Metallica and Bob Rock Part Company
Added Sunday, April 3
Added By: Arto
METALLICA, the Grammy-award winning heavy metal band that just added a documentary to their roster of accomplishments, have announced that they are parting ways with long-time Canadian producer Bob Rock.
"As grateful as we are to Bob for all he's done for us since 1991, we feel it's time to move on," said drummer and spokesman for the band Lars Ulrich.
Metallica felt the need to reassure fans that despite the timing, this was not an April Fool's gag.
"Kirk Hammett, guitarist, was the one who mentioned, people are going to think this is an April Fool's joke," said James Hetfield, singer/guitarist. "But we can assure you, it was just a coincidence. We've been thinking about this for some time now, and it's just the way things have panned out."
Metallica united with Bob Rock for the 1991 self-titled album, universally called "The Black Album". It was a move that led to many long-time fans turning their backs on the band, while the better sound, simpler song structures and greater commercial acceptance led to a generation of younger fans who had never heard Metallica propelled the foursome to international dominance.
The subsequent tour for The Black Album lasted three years. Rock has since worked with Metallica on every studio release, leading many fans and music critics to believe he is single handedly responsible for the commercialization and "selling out" of the band.
Under Rock's tutleage, the band have released The Black Album, Load, Reload, Garage Inc, S&M and most recently St. Anger.
Rock, who also had production credits for Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and Motley Crue, was unavailable for comment. Metallica have not speculated on who, if anyone, would be taking over as producer, although many fans are hopeful that Flemming Rasmunssen, who was responsible for the Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All releases, will return to the studio to work with the group.

o well... sometimes u have to let go ...
I may be the only person who's kinda disappointed with that!
But at the same time, I'm happy, I hope we'll get some better music, but I have a feeling, the best was only available through Bob Rock (And I hate everything Rock has done with Metallica)....

That doesnt make sense.
Im just now beginning to realize how underrated MEtallicas lyrics are. Each song really does tell its own story.

If he did hes an idiot.
Ill admit that Bob is great at making money, but thats not what music should be about for Metallica, cause they have enough money to do whatever they want, so they should just make a great album, not worry about selling records.
