There is no official date yet, all rumours i am afraid, i know they are recording their album, and its due to be released in the summer, apparantly, jaymez is not inspired so they are basing it of the previous album and calling it Re-Anger, not sure if its true though, probably not

Use the edit button idiot.
Tip of the Day:
Try saying "Could you please use the edit button instead of double/triple/etc.. posting because it is frowned upon. Thank you :)"
Phrasing it as you did is more than likely to lead to pointless hostilities.
Also, try and educate people into becoming better posters instead of criticizing them for breaking the rules/making mistakes.

munky_magik
03-25-2005, 07:14 PM
Apparently the stuff they've been writing in pre-show rehersals has been thrashier, what with having to warm up for all of their earlier material and all.
They may or may not decide to use this thrashier sounding material for their next record, only time will tell.

munky_magik
03-25-2005, 07:20 PM
Go to your User Cp via the link in the top left of the screen. Then select the Edit Avatar option down the left hand side, it has to be no larger than 70x70 pixels, I think. And for some reason this site doesn't have an auto re-size function :-/
Six Foot Revolver

At the top of the screen click Quick Links, then edit avatar and then get an avatar. It has to be 70x70 pixels or less mind

Because you don't have to work so hard to play double bass, that's why.
Replying on an age old topic here...why don't you have to work as hard? I think it'd be harder to pull off a 3-4 min song with double kicking galore as both of your legs need to be strong to do it (otherwise your leg burns) rather than just one.

On a completely different note who's better - Rob or Jason
Six Foot Revolver

He did co-write St. Anger. But it wasn't that bad, and his bass playing is better then I thought it would be..

it is by far the worst metallica album because it sounds horrible and it's too long, but it's still better than a lot of the other mainstream stuff out there.

I agree it's too long, but as I have said before, in my opinion it is their best work since Master of Puppets.
I think it could do with a remaster though, just fix Lars' drums' sound and retune to standard EADGBe. Maybe even try Rob on bass with some wicked pedals too.
metalcritter666
03-26-2005, 09:38 AM
I don't think standard tuning would be good but the songs were wrote in a drop tuning. Drop C# sounds very good, very thrashy. But yes, Lars snare drum sounds horrible and Rob on bass would be good. The only reason there aren't any guitar solos is because Kirk didn't like the sound of them in the Drop C key. I think that's a really good idea but they're probably going to do that for the next album which should be out this time next year, actually.
Do you use pedals?

metallica never use standard tuning anyway, always Eb since 1995.

Eb since '95 and what, one album since then :p
They had standard tuning on the first few albums, and they ****en dominated.
Since then, they've become boring though so..
But, I didn't miss Kirk's solos anyway, as far I was concerned, his solos have turned to **** recently anyway.
I don't use pedals, but Cliff's work with pedals in the early days was amazing.
*And Jason had some cool Live solos with pedals..

metallica never use standard tuning anyway, always Eb since 1995.
Kirk didn't solo because Lars did not let him.
Eb tuning sucks, I'd prefer James to start writing all his songs in E again. I'd prefer James to just write his songs by himself since thats how they come out best. Kirk makes them too bluesy or jazzy for my liking.
LarsAgi007
03-26-2005, 06:00 PM
First of all it was Bob rock that decided no Solos, it was lars trying to says solos are all about ego, secondly, eb tuning sucks, Subjective, Not objective...
Kirk makes them to bluesy or jazzy.... Jaymez wrote all of Mama said himself.... and a lot of reload.....
The main think kirk does is drain rhythem guitar with solos... S&M is a good example, it pretty hard to get the rhythem guitar in hearing range...
I do agree on the lyrics though, Jaymez does write lyrics well on his own, But there is not much of a demand for lyrics from the heart or soul anymore...

i know that at least while dave was still in the band, dave and lars smoked weed togehter all the time. i don't know anything about james ever really doing it, but i'm sure that somewhere in there he did. i think i read a quote by les claypool about getting high with kirk in school.
Kirk was heavy into drugs during RTL etc. He stopped because it was ruining his life (MoP) and because his gf said his sperm tasted better without 'em

First of all it was Bob rock that decided no Solos, it was lars trying to says solos are all about ego, secondly, eb tuning sucks, Subjective, Not objective...

Ya something like Lars thought solo's were dead, but I'm not sure. The first 5 albums are only James work. He wrote every single song with no help. He would refuse to let anyone contribute because it ruined the songs, exept Cliff (Its the only way Cliff agreed to join the band, lead bass guitar). He even wrote most of Kirks solos. Kirks first real solo and riff is in Enter Sandman. Mama said/NEM/Fade to Black are only bluesy or jazzy because thats how its meant to sound. James isn't a metal whore, he writes metal when it fits the song. Imagine a thundrous FFWF riff behind NEM. The point I'm making is that Kirk will put a blues/jazz concept of some sort into every song, but James only does it when its appropriate. Thats why all songs pre-Black kick so much ***.

I think Jason had every opertunity to get creative on bass... He was/Still is a great bassist, and left because he wanted to take his echobrain project to the next level, But jaymez said i can't be in a band with him if he does that, then jason said ''Fine then i am stepping off)
They gave him chance to reconsider, but he still said NO!, then echobrain failed miserably...
And when Metallica played at a raiders game Jason rang up saying why didnt you tell me ect: And tried taking them all on a guilt trip, then he hinted he wanted to come back into the band, but they all said No!

But Metallica did not let Jason get creative at all, and bullied him. They just allowed him one song (My friend of misery) and a couple of doodles. Everything else, he had to follow the rythm guitar strictly.

In all fairness it would make logical sense, I mean, Kirk was suffering drug abuse in load, and especially reload, look at the guitaring in them, they are not as in your face i find, Its almost if he has turned the guitar down below everyone, specially on Reload... This is in comparison to earlier albums..
Also now jaymes has cleaned up the beer and drugs more, look what has happened to lyrics...
To be honest it seems most of the bands from that era that were any good were the drunk, drugged bands.... To an extent

Na, I disagree. 60's + 70's + 80's are the drug decades, yet only the artists in the 80's seemed to be any good. I think that the bands just got better coincidently. Drugs play a minor affect, it lets them be more open-minded and curious in their lyrical stage. The rest is just skill, no excuses there.

Kirk is a good performer, not a good song writer.... He should have been a jazz artist, he always makes up riffs that are so bluesy etc (eg. riff from when they talk about his guitars in Cunning Stunts, overuse of wah-wah and bending of guitar strings). I don't think even drugs can help him in metal

My band and me have made a medoly wif all our fav songs from all albums, it starts with Es intro then at the build it goes to the fade to black chourus then after that i do a 'll drum fill for 2 bars and we go to the and justice for all bit with the toms (1.03 onwards) then we go to one with the 16th triplets. I know it mightnt sounds that great but we like it. And please dont coppy it or anything, i know it sounds corny but we've worked hard on it and it would be cheating to steal it(im not implying you would) I also like to play to Sad but true and pritty much most of the stuff before Garage inc. Does anyone know when metallica is touring Australia next??

i just dont understand how any metal fan could hate them. they pretty much moulded the genre in so many aspects. could you imagine metal without metallica? it could possibly still sound like danzig or black sabbath for all we know. almost every great metal band has been inspired by them, and if they havent been, then the band that hasnt been has been inspired by another band who has been inspired by metallica.

Ok, LarSROCKS, Firstly of all i wan't to know what the hell your problem is, second of all, i said drugs seem to have had an affect on Jaymez lyrical and songwriting, (For the better), and Kirk (For the worst)
That is my opinion, and Judge not lest ye been judged yourself, And N00b??? what the hell are you to talk?
And lastly, your struggling to find out what China Lars uses?? www.allmetallica.com look at the equipment list, and besides if your going to copy Metallica and try to sound the same, what makes people listen to you rather than Metallica???
You do a drum fill for two bars??? it would be one and a half, or two and a half, remember Lars = Offbeat Drummer, ok, Just remember that..
And in future before you barge into a thread to give people flack for their opinions, and call them N00bs, and otherwise add a bad vibe to the thread, just think a little on how much of a stupid dick you really are. Thats all i gotta say about that
(So please Just dont even bother speaking to me, I hate little idiots who think they are all that)

I could not agree more. Where would we be without Metallica? We wouldn't have half the good metal bands we appreciate today. OK granted, we wouldn't have Linkin Park but you can't argue with this, metallica have done so much for us. Any metal fan would have to be a complete tosser to disrespect them no matter how much you hate St. Anger.
My favourite 'tallica songs to play on guitar are:
Struggle Within
Seek & Destroy
Fuel
Whiplash
Dyers Eve
Blackened
Ride The Lightning
MoP
Of Wolf And Man
Sad But True
The Outlaw Torn
Lastly, LarSROCKS - stop calling people noobs and acting like a complete and utter TWAT when you have about 30 posts. I'm a noob but i don't act like that.
If you want to find out Lars' china cymbal google it. (look for metallica world or encycmet)

Hey metalguitar, who's the guy right before James on your avatar. Is it Dave Mustaine?
I was just wondering
It looks Mustaine like.
But everyone saying Metallica formed metal, I don't agree with that, they formed mainstream metal, sure.
But alot of [good] metal bands would still be here if Metallica wasn't.

Did lars handle the double bass in it, or was it slower without the double bass?
metalcritter666
03-27-2005, 01:37 PM
dyer's eve is phucking awesome song - I didn't go but I know Lars can still double-bass like that no problem
ANY GUITARISTS WANTING TO KNOW HOW TO GET A CLASSIC 'TALLICA SOUND - i may just have the solution!!! hold on...
OK - have a Boss ME-50 and preferably a Line 6 spider set to clean (bass 8, mid 3, treble 9, chan vol 10, drive 4.5 for all tones, if you don't have a spider it will probably work with other amps but you may have to tweak around with the settings...for the distorted parts you might be able to get away with a Boss-MT2 or a DS1.)
ok - here's Kirk's unforgiven 1 clean part (G:-2-4-5-5-5-5-4-0)
On the me-50: tone modify, acoustic (or try the other ones)
a dash of stereo chorus
50% hall reverb
delay set to about 500ms
a bit of compression sustain will not go amiss for the pre-solo riff (don't knock the level up too much or it'll go overdriven)
On the guitar: tone and vol 10, bridge hummer
here's Jaymz' acoustic parts for the black album
as above but use a single coil pickup and maybe a bit more chorus to make it sound smoother
Kirk's lead tone for Live Sh*t solos:
Tone modify: Enhance, Hollow, Tight or S>H, they all work fine
OD/DS: Metal (flick dial to MT2 and hit variation) Drive 4.5, Bottom 8, Tone 6, Level 4
Compressor: Sustain 6, Level 4.5
NS: 1
There is some delay but I'm not sure of the settings...try experimenting on that front
And have your pedal mode to wah in case you need it.
Load/reload tones:
As above but tweak the od/ds settings a bit and have it set to loud
These work for me.
KEEP THE MASTER LEVEL AT 5 OR IT MAY NOT SOUND AS GOOD
I'll try and update soon - try these and tell me if they work for you :thumb:
MoP/...AJFA sound
try turning your distortion to muff, and messing around with the controls.

jason's bass solos had my friend of misery...which was actually going to be black album's instrumental, but then jaymz thought it would be better to add lyrics. you can hear the extended bass solo on Live **** san diego/mexico
cliffs solos are cool because they sound like guitar solos. jaymz actually said that in an interview on the MTV icon thing
i haven't heard rob's solos but from what ive heard theyre impressive...
