No, it gives you an oppurtunity to read biased polls and learn Blink 182 songs. Its hardly in depth, and there is a perfectly good website right here (mxtabs.net)
Now back to Metallica:
Who's seeing them this year? I was going to goto Download, but found out its 3day only, so I'd have to pay to see Linkin Park.

Master of Puppets could be a work of art, with all the symbolism etc.,like the puppet strings attatched to the war graves beinf pulled by 'godlike' hands, and the setting sun in the background showing the sun setting on 'just another' set of war casualties.I think it suits the album perfectly.

Hatebreed_Chick

I've found that the case with a lot of big Metallica fans. Personally, I was truly disappointed...The lack of lead was a big let down...But it's one of those things that has to grow on you. The guys were trying something different and I respect them for that. There is also the fact that no matter what Metallica puts out, they will still be successful because their fans are going to appreciate them no matter what.
Joeeddstealschickens
02-25-2004, 11:13 AM
This has been discussed in many a thread, but I reckon it comes down to the fact that it is good album that is a HUGE improvement on the Load-era.It was let down by a bad mix,a lack of solos and a spot of poor track editing, but nevertheless it is a decent album. It has, however, split the fans right down the middle, and half despise the band and label it nu-metal, wheras the other half respoect Metallicas new direction and welcome the fact that they are getting back to playing older stuff live. There's a funny spoof of St.Anger on a page somwhere on rock & metal.

St. Anger because of the build up onthe first minute of the song and the main riff itself.

Metallicat
02-25-2004, 10:22 PM
It's hard not to like Nu-Metal when you grow up listening to it. It's mainly because of the rock radio stations, they play a lot of Nu-Metal.
I'm not sure why people hate Nu-Metal bands, not just dislike, hate. I can understand them hating all the 'alternative' or whatever you call them bands that come out like Puddle of Mudd and Fuel and all the other bands that sound like them.
Edit: i'm not sure if that made sense, i had a point somewhere in there. whether it made sense i'm not sure but i'm so ****ing tired right now.

Why is it that a lot of people don't like St.Anger(the song).
I thought some people didn't like it because:
1) no solos
2) Some people thought the singing
3) Repeatitive
Well i think it grows on you after a while, and i think it's not that bad. People expected more out of it after like listening to their previous albums, and the black album.
Joeeddstealschickens
02-26-2004, 03:36 PM
St.Anger should have had a slow-ish solo working its way up the scale, alongside the 'madly in anger with you' rhythm part, instead of repeating itself for the third time.

It's sad how much people take stabs at Metallica for being such a big target. Of course it's easy to say **** about Metallica, they are so famous and popular. People hate them JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE METALLICA. I know a kid at my school who likes Metallica, used to be their favorite band, and now after the release of St. Anger he doesn't even care for Metallica anymore. He knows I love them so he probly just thinks they're too overrated, and yes, he is one of the posers that think it's cool to be underground. But yet he likes Nu-Metal, i just want to shoot the kid in the ****ing head!

I started on Blink covers in my band,so i've really only got better as the band got better (we were all f**king useless whan we started).I've been mainly concetrated on my songwriting, which is pretty **** good, even if I do say so myself! But if you want to start out on Metallica songs then good luck to you,it could well push your ability to develop quicker than the fretboard majesty of Tom DeLonge did for me!

not the solo. the intro to blackened is several layered guitars all playing a riff backwards. so i don't even know if you could play that live.
also on battery james uses a nylon acoustic. can't really fill the medowlands with a nylon acoustic.

I have a Metallica question. What does the S & M stand for on their live cd? Personally I think it stands for San Francisco Symphony Orchestra & Metallica, but my youth pastor thinks it stands for sadomasochism I realize that it is abreviate like this but is that something that was done intentionally? Does anyone have a way to prove or disprove either? I don't feel like reading all the posts in this thread, so I'm wondering how iron maiden got into metallica. Anyway, I've always had this feeling that iron maiden was sort of the first band of its kind. I also think megadeth sounds quite a lot like them. So this makes me wonder if maiden was a big influence on megadeth. Megadeth to me sounds like a more modern maiden sound. I like it a little more, but they are both SWEET!

Evewryone here seems to like load and reload, but here goes..........I've posted my reviews of the albums here. They are also on amazon.com under Joe.I would re-review them but im lazy.
Load
'Load' is a bad album of bad songs. This would get 1 star, but it's saving grace is 'The Outlaw Torn' and 'Bleeding Me',thus it gets 2 stars for these songs, which are addmitedly brilliant. It's lyrically, musically, and idea-wise (it's a bunch of rock ballads for christs sake!) a bad album. It is uninspired, plodding drivel and should be forgotten about. I respect Metallica for having the gall to change direction so sharply, but they seem to have forgotten what made them special in the first place,i.e being a metal band. It's depressing that a band can progress from starting thrash metal to being a dull mainstream rock band,in about a decade. If you want a '90s (studio) album by Metallica then get 'Metallica' or 'ReLoad'.Anything but this.
ReLoad
I got this and 'Load' for Christmas,so I decided to come and finish my Metallica album reviews.I was genuinely surprised, as what I'd heard off the album ('The Memory Remains', and 'Fuel', 'The Memory Remains', and 'Devil's Dance' on 'S&M') was awful. But this is better than 'Load'.It is heavier and weirder, and I personaly prefer it to 'St.Anger' and '...And Justice For All'.It has a kind of groove, and is the only album where Newstead seems comfortable in his role.I still prefer their pre-1994 work, where they live up to their name and are a metal band, but this album is pretty good, and it would get a higher rating if it wasn't by METAL-lica.That said, 'Fuel' sounds good here, also worth a mention are 'Prince Charming', 'Where the Wild Things are', 'Unforgiven II' and 'Fixxer'.The best on the album is probably 'Fuel'.I also think that if 'No Leaf Clover' was on here it would be so much better, and the song would fit right in.The lyrics are the best thing here, probably the best since 'Master Of Puppets'.Anyway, I like 'ReLoad', and it has a quirky charm about it.
it is inevitable that there will be a million things in there you don't agree with, but it is my opinion, which i am entitled to.Thats my thoughts, now you can continue saying how good Load is.

very well said. Load/Reload were great "hard rock" albums anyway you look at them. Vocally some of James best range and actually singing took place on those albums, lyrically songs like "bleeding me" and "fixxxer" were incredible, Kirk wrote more bluesy leads and shorter solos to fit the music better rather than show off, you could hear Jason's bass, and above all the song writing was top knotch. What diverse albums, no two songs followed a similar path. The riffage was heavy, listen to the intro to 2X4 or the chorus on Aint my Bitch, those are just great. Speed dosent make a band heavy, its how its played. Load and Reload are probley the two Metallica albums i can honestly say i still listen to.

Joeeddstealschickens
03-16-2004, 03:34 PM
yeah.........i dont reckon that those 3 would go down to well though.Lepers a bit long, and doesnt change much so the audience might get bored.Blackened is good but really fast.Creeping Death changes a bit too much maybe.I played at Band night last week;we played our own stuff but they were all at least 7 mins long but cos they changed (subtly) and worked well it went down. Also it was origional material. With covers you need to either play something a lot of people know or play something snappy, like Motorbreath, that captures attention. These guys played covers then and sucked *** but they were covers people knew,so it got (some of ) the crowd on their side.About 8 pages back is a thing some guy wanted opinion on what metallica songs to play at a battle of the bands, that might help you.Otherwise ask for some suggestions.

Creeping Death...Blackened...or Leper Messiah?
Creeping Death!!!!! It's so f'ucking awesome when the crowd goes, "DIE! DIE!" etc.

if you got a crowd at a school concert (most of whom will know metallica by st.anger) to do the chanting then you have my respect. The most i managed to incite was hand-waving,and the bastards couldnt even keep that up for the whole song

A good song (though very overrated) to play is Enter Sandman. Everyone knows that song

Correct me if I'm wrong but if one were to move around too much on stage, he would look like an idiot, right?

I would play "Creeping Death" because there are a lot of Metallica posers at my school who would know what to do. Nothing against Metallica, but I'm sure you've seen just from this thread alone that many of its fans are a little... dumb.

very well said. Load and Reload are probley the two Metallica albums i can honestly say i still listen to.
except for the last part, i totally agree, nicely said.
(i still listen to the first 5 metallica albums almost regularly. )

I have all metallicas except load and i would say that reload isnt there best but it is far from being their worst.

I agree, justice is my favourite album.
A lot of people seem to think that S&M meant they were selling out. I never got that... why is releasing a live album selling out?

Yeah, I agree with what most people said on here about Load and Reload being good albums. Its funny because i've heard so many people flaming these albums but I never thought they were that bad.
Gernm18

the people who flame them are usually narrowminded thrashers people who cant deal with the fact that metallica changed musically
i agree those albums arent as good as the old ones but they certainly are better than many new bands

I'd got with Blackened. If you were gonna play the intro to it as well. Thats's got such a kickass intro. I reckon if you want poeple to join in or do do stuff with you, i'd go for Creeping Death.

S&M is great,if lacking a few important songs.Puppets is the best, but i reckon load is full of bland blues-rock.Some songs are good,i.e outlaw torn and bleeding me,but they are better on S&M

S&M's setlist is great, nothing to complain about, no need for the same song every time :)

Battery on S&M is so nice. Especially when the main riff comes in. My mom hates what I listen to, cause its too fast and heavy for her. So what I did was ask her to listen to a very smooth, slow moving song. So I made her listen to Fith Fire with fire. ;)

I can't stand Load or Reload... I like a few songs off them (King Nothing, Fuel) but I usually only listen to RtL, MoP, and sometimes AJFA
Gernm18
03-17-2004, 06:54 PM
i listen to justice more than any other album
i just cant get enough of blackened, ajfa, dyers eve, one, eye of the beholder, shortest straw, to live is to die, harvester of sorrow and the frayed ends of sanity
all the songs in that album are awesome my favorite's gotta be blackened or dyers eve or to live is to die

in my opinion i prefer the old albums over most of their new ones like rtl and kill em all and mop and load anf reload but i really dislike the symphony in S&M because in my honest opinion i think it ruins a good thing

S&M remains my favourite metallica album, it was my first and so i have a soft spot for it. Most of the songs lent themselves to the symphony very well, the symphony coulda been a bit more restrained for MOP and sad but true didnt really work but the rest is brilliant. Even when i hear the studio version of battery i find myself humming the string arrangements.
Has anyone heard apocolyptica - four cellos plays metallica? Its brilliant. They actually play the one solo, tapping and all on a cello (which is a fretless instrument if im not mistaken). Fade to black isnt on the album, but they have done it on another cd and man it really takes the song to a new level. That song would have been just amazing with the symphony.

i meant older sorry like before jason left and rob came. and james became sober. it's kinda funny i think, they had amazing albums and then james stopped drinking and i find they went downhill.
just my opinion

isn't beating a dead horse fun?
apocalyptica is wicked..anyone who can play a fast guitar solo on a cello deserves your respect.

yes it is
reincarnating a dead horse and sodomizing it might be even more fun.
