Sad But True
Sanitarium
Fade to Black
orion because it's cool
seek and destroy because its classic
sad but true because it's really awesome
sanitarium because it's double as awesome as sad but true

The Metallica songs i've covered are
St Anger (i was forced into it by my guitarist, he had only heard that album
until that point)
Blackened
Master of Puppetts
Motorbreath
Hit the lights
Seek and Destroy
Metal Militia
Your guitarist must be sweet if he can play those solos. Thats so awesome im only a freshman so nobody in my band yet can play that kinda guitar.

For the ultimate in thrash, I would like to learn Whiplash. That would
be so awesome to play on my guitar in front of a crowd. Another
great 'outside the norm' song I would consider playing would be Devils Dance.
What instrument do u play?
CreepingDeath~

+rep to you for picking Orion as many people ditch that
songs like that for Sandman, Fuel, etc.(not that they're bad) when Orion is better. An easy song that I would play that's different from the norm
is The Thing That Should Not Be because it's creepy and different
from the norm. I might also play my favorite Metallica song
Harvester of Sorrow.
Yeah I think The thing that should not be is one of Metallicas most under rated songs, because the other songs on MOP over shadows it.

I'm mad at my band. They don't wanna cover ANY Metallica.
I can play a lot of songs (of course, my drummer coulnd't keep up with me) and my other guitarist doesn't want to, which makes no sense. I wanted to try sanitarium, and he didn't. sanitarium rules.
And my bassist said no, and then i suggested layla and he said "our audience wouldn't know who clapton was"
1) yea they would
2) layla rules either way

my guitarist and i sorta share lead. i do it the most, but he has some solos. i'm more of a dave mustaine person, writes leads and rhythm, but i have another guitarist that does some too.

well i like the guys, they've been good friends. i've been tryin for a long time to find a band and we all finally got together and we've put together some good music. i'm trying to add a bit of a metal hard rock spin on some music while the others are doing that, a little bit of punk, and a little bit of ska.
it's actually pretty good, i think. i'd rather have more metal tho

Yeah my guy can play Master of puppets, we can play that song and he can play the fast solo in one, thats about it, hes really talented hes just to intimidated to learn any solos.
I started feb of last year so i kinda suck haha i can play the rhythm parts to all of metallicas songs though so if he learns the solos they really arent a problem.
And our drummer has been playing 8 years, and hes 15 so hes sweet too, and our bass player can play most bass things cause bass is easy (most of it).

The guitar parts in RTL are probly my favorite to play right now, that or ktulu. They are both amazingly fun.
The best part about playing ktulu is after u switch to distortion and u play the clean parts palm muted.
sounds sooooo aweomse.

It is so annoying because usually if some one wants to play an instrument, they usually go to guitar... ( at least the people I know do)..
There is one "bassist" I can think of that I know well, but he has never played a bass before:rolleyes: ... he just has a guitar, and (hopefully) he is going to buy a bass.

Anyone heard : Metallica, The Ultimate Tribute Album. Its got a few good bands and artists covering their songs.
Song list includes:
Motor Head - Whiplash
Flotsam & Jetsam - Damage Inc
Joey Vera (Anthrax Bassist), Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme Guitarist, i think), Scott Travis (Judas Preist Drummer), Tommy Victor (Prong Guitarist/Vocals)
Trapped Under Ice - Death Angel
Nothing Else Matters - Bob Kulick (Dont know where from, something to do with KISS i think), Bruce Kulick ( same deal as bob), Gregg Bissonette (Think he's a solo artist), Joe Lynn Turner (Singer for Yngwie i think and in Deep Purple perhaps. Fell free to correct me im not totally sure), Tony Franklin (Fretless bass player not sure who with tho, solo maybe)
Motorbreath - Blasko (dont know), Page Hamilton (dont know), Ryan Yerdon (dont know), Scott Ian (Anthrax Guitarist)
Holier Than Thou - Alex Skolnick (Testament Guitarist), Chuck Billy (Testament, Rampage Vocalist), Doug Aldrich (Solo Artist and others i think), Eric Singer (Badlands, KISS, Black Sabbath Drummer), Marco Mendoza (With various artists, too many to name. Bassist)
Eye of the Beholder - Life After Death
Creeping Death - Dark Angel
Glad i got all that off. Well thats for anyone whos vaguely interested in this album. Probably not very well known because it only came out in nov last year. If any of you have soulseek add me - limac25 i have this album and all other metallica albums so yeh.

And man, physically or verbally? If it's physical should get some people to kick some ***. :D
And I prefer St. Anger to Load/ReLoad.
It wasn't my first.
And I'll admit it, I hated it initially.
But after listenning to it alot, it's not that bad.
Sure it could have been better, but I'm thankful for what they released, personally a Load type album would have ruined it for me.

So you base music off solos? You're missing out on alot of good stuff then, solos enhance a song, yes, but it doesnt necesarily make it a goodsong.

Oh no ! where's our frog avatar???
BTW, solos are the little thingies that make your balls dance
Has anyone heard the Pantera cover of Seek and Destroy? I listened to it yesterday and thought that it was pretty sweet. Jason Newstead was in it too.
No, he just knew that he couldn't argue with Lars because Lars wont let it go no matter how wrong he is.
Lars, for some unknown reason, was PMSing along with James for a couple of months. Why they had solos for 20 years and then stopped? I don't know. All I remember is that St Anger was pretty awesome live. The cd is really full of great riffs, it's just that there aren't any solos.

Sounds like it would be amazing. I refuse to listen to any Sum 41 covers of Metallica, just because I don't wanna hear if they ruined it. Now Pantera is a true metal band, so I think theirs would be better

I know for a fact that the full aim of a solo is to tell a story
within a story. Like a side plot that still relates to the main
one. If u don't want to put one in a song or two, that's cool
but it adds a lot more interest to a song. I think that Lars
is goin' kinda 'do everything different' crazy. Why
'reinvent the wheel' if u don't have to?

he wanted to make metallicas sound new and experimental,so therefore the dumbas$ took solos out of their songs, made pretty much all the riffs in drop d,and did rimshots.it did not turn out very well, and we all flame him for it now!

throw out something that helps make your band great

Don't get me wrong I do like writing riffs in drop D, and can come
up w/ some good ones, but if there was any need for variety
and difference in St. Anger, it was alternating between
the tunings. Like they did on MOP (ex. the thing that should
not be)

Metallica's old music will live forever.....the new stuff will lay in shame to the magnificent music they have written in the past. When I saw them live Kirk seemed a bit rusty, almost like he didn't want to play the solos in some of the songs. They dont have the energy they used to have.

look at other bands like iron maiden, their youngest member will be 47 this year and they're still going strong. and they still have amazing solos, so there no reason really why they shouldnt have the energy they used to have

you do have a point. kirk messed up a few times, but he still looked like he was having fun the whole time. i think they've got plenty of energy

bad word. if they don't have the energy to keep on going, then that' their choice. they have the energy, that's why they're in studios and going on tour again soon. but no one should have energy, and it's up to the band members if they want to use it
i suppose everyones always going to look back and compare new albums to the greats like ...and justice for all and ride the lightning, but the band wont go back to that as the music has changed from what it used to be.

I don't think they've ever done more than a two night show...
It's awesome they are finally getting back into studios. I watched SKOM today and I noticed how mad Kirk was that Lars wanted to be "trendy" and not have guitar solos. I'm hoping Kirk will have more of a role this time and he'll take a good minute or two out of a song and just solo away :thumb:

Metallica has not come out with a record worth wasting your time on in 17 years. They are old and artistically washed up. They ****ing ruled the eighties, wait, Slayer ruled the eighties, but Metallica was still badass then, but not anymore.

Slayer didn't rule jack ****. If I recall correctly, didn't Metallica sell almost 100,000,000 albums???
it's funny, a lot of slayer albums came out when metallica albums came out. but who outsold who?? can anyone take a logical guess?
well, so now i just did some research. in 1995 they celebrated the 4,000,000 sale. by then the black album was already 10x platinum...wow... if the black album made so many sales, what about the rest of the 80s??? Metallica has come out with some amazing records. So what if they haven't made an amazing record since the early 90's? They are still, IMO (and apparently in the opinion of 99,999,999 fans) that Metallica is better than Slayer

The drumming in both bands, and the vocals are the biggest difference. I like both James and Tom Araya's vocals, but DAVE LOMBARDO. Huge jump from Lars to Dave Lombardo. The man is a speed machine.

Nobody ruled the eighties. Just because you like Slayer better than Metallica doesn't mean there better than them. Your favorite band shouldn't be your opinion of best band. My favorite band is Slipknot. Do I think there the BEST band? Hell no, they aren't. Everyone knows that. I love both Slayer and Metallica to death, but let's face it, they didn't rule crap.

Well actually not everyone knows that, unfortunately. I say it's unfortunate, not because i'm not a big fan of slipknot, but because there are a lot of slipknot fan boys where i live.

i like the black album too julian. Its a good album. It;s kinda been so over-rated its had a drought of people talking about it which has kinda made it under-rated again...? yeah i confuse myself sometimes. but if you gather it's kinda true. Especially some of the ones that wern't in the "Big 5" God that failed, My Friend of Misery etc etc
Hit the lights is still god though
then fade.
