I'm assuming you've never actually listenned to Kill 'em All?
no it's just i couldn't possibly pick from that album. so i picked songs other than KEA
Well it wouldn't be possible for you to like the album version better cause there is no bass on it

To me that is the only weak point of the justice album, you can't hear any bass (if there even is bass on it)

i agree completely. i love AJFA, it's just the producer did a poor job of evening out the volumes

And by Kill 'em All I wasn't just trying to say the obvious Anesthesia.
**** like Jump In The Fire, The Four Horsemen etc. All have bloody amazing basslines imo.

What I meant is there is no bass in AJFA, and One is in AJFA, so you have to like the live version better for bass, because there is no bass in the studio one.

Some people ask if they just never recorded the bass and made up the excuse that the mix got ****ed up and the bass can't be heard. I'm one of these people.

I really doubt it. Jason was the new bassist on that album. The only album they would use that as an excuse could be St Anger bcuz it was between jason and rob. jason did most of ajfa, you just can't hear it

i often wonder that aswell, i just used to think that they actually made justice during the time after Cliff died and before Jason joined.
but considering what a small gap it was i don't think so

1)NEM- Beautiful Voice
2)Fade to Black- Makes me very scared
3)Unforgiven- Just plain nice singing
4) (tie) Creeping Death/Blackened/Dyers Eve- His perfect metal voice IMO
5) Ride the Lightning- haha, young james. When I first heard the opening word *Guitly*, I thought it was going to be a guitar solo

i love james' voice. from the growling, to the screaming, to the singing. i think he's a great frontman. lars is amazing on drums.
ok so my little step sister bought a ouija board...weird kid
so she tried it with my sister and my sis said "let's talk to cliff burton!" so they "talked" to cliff burton. the mysterious thing is that neither of them knew he died in 1986, and the ouija board said that cliff died in 1986.
so i tried it, and talked again to cliff burton. i asked where he died, and he said "sweden." i asked how he died, he said "bus accdent" (notice the spelling, my sis's are very good spellers). i asked who is a better guitarist, he said "kurk" (once again, notice the spelling). i asked if dave was kicked out because of alcohol, he said "yes." i then asked who he was better friends with, dave or kirk. he said "dave"
(and apparently hendrix died of pot and heroin in 1970, which neither of my sis's knew)
does anyone think this is really weird? like ouija boards could be real? i think it's pretty odd. i don't believe in ouija boards, but this is a little weird
BurtonChancellor

Well, personally, I think that if Cliff Burton's spirit is floating around somewhere and it has the ability to communicate with the living, it'd probably have better things to do than talk to a bunch of kids playing with a board game.

ouija (sp?) is a mystery to me... I have never played it but heard stories about it and it doesn't make sence. You put your hand on a pointer and it "magically" goes to the letters? and they actually come out with words? How does it work?

1. Enter Sandman

Yeah.. basically their best of right now is Master Of Puppets...
Well, you'd have to include the band's highest point/s (First 3 albums) and then you include the last work the band did, because that's their personal fav as a band. And of course, they'd redo St. Anger, better drums, Kirk would put in his solos (I'm sure by now he's written like 100 solos for every song on St. Anger) and james would pick up drinking again, and maybe get back some of his voice at least, also maybe smooth out the rhythm a bit, I dunno if it should just drag on like that.
Well to tell you guys the truth, ...And Justice is the only Metallica album I wish I didn't buy, apart from two, maybe three songs from it (Which I could have downloaded) I don't think it was worth my money at all.
It just completely lacks anything that says Metallica to me.

no, they shouldn't.
they need a better album in a year and they also need a greatest hits with good songs, not just the radio hits

about the ouiji board thing, if gocaps99 is telling the truth, i'm freaked out. ouiji boards are real because i've had my own experiences. We used to have one (we bought one in 95, didnt make one) and when we asked what cousins fiances name is (we didn't know), it gave us the correct name. At first we looked at this name and went "ok...." but 3 weeks later we got the invitation to the wedding, and it had the exact name + correct surname. Then in canada once (i moved in 99) we made one out of paper and coins at 3 in the night. We takled around for a while and he made fun of us, but then when we asked if we could leave, he woudn't let us (if you leave without permission or take your fingers off, the spirit is within your fingers forever or something. Basically, you get haunted or possessed). We stayed up all night and we kept asking till it got so mad. It was half swearing (shutup, **** you) the entire time. eventually it went...
but i don't think you can call in your own spirits like "cliff burton" etc. you get whoever you get. you're supposed to ask who the spirit was, about its life, what it did etc its really cool.
Now disregarding that little bit of my history (making me paranoid again), the best of metallica DVD should be a song from every album, liver performances from every tour and interviews from every album (duh). thats the biggest chance knowing the music industry and its love of creating everything about a person/s into a 4 dvd box set costing nothing less than $100...

and like frantic, st anger, sweet amber, dirty window, am i evil, sandman, holier than thou, nem, wherever i may roam, fuel
it should then also come with a dvd of all these songs being performed live in there entirety, if they can find 1 of all the early ones.
and maybe like a 30 page booklet.
the Metallliboxset. Most likely 85-100$.

Yea, he definetely needs to move on. I watched the movie about a week ago. I mean it's his own mistake he got kicked out of metallica, so he shouldn't really be mad at them. They didn't want to risk going down so they kicked him out. Did anyone watch that part where lars and james were arguing. LMAO. Lars said like you're acting like a d*ck and james replied with something and lars just shut up. funny part.

Dave lets Lars know that he's had to live for so long knowing what he did. Metallica basically let him rot, and dragged on and on. He spoke of people seeing him in the streets giving him some \m/ horns and yelling Metallica. It makes you think higher of him.

heh flattered, but your pretty good poster yourself. :thumb: I just try to say things that are fair, imformative and based on something that contributes to my point or post.
I thought that Daves encounter with Lars in SKOM didn't leave either of them looking bad. Dave confessed to himself that it was his fault "I ****ed up... and I have to live forever knowing i'll be second." Either I'm missing a huge clip, but I was very impressed by the open-mindness of Dave and Lars. I've heard lots of things before watching that clip about how Dave acted very childish and such, but it seemed fine to me. Something I can relate to because in his shoes, Im sure I would have reacted like that.
One of the things that I thought was cool about SKOM was Jasons departure. It wasn't as simple as everyone thought. Poor guys was bullied by James for so long before he snapped. Jason is one of my favorite members of any band (I say "any" band because saying "last person out of metallica" means I see him as the worst one in the band and therefore as a person in general. But in comparison to every other band, I see all members of Metallica at top 6 (no rob yet, i don't know him) so it could be misleading to people and make them think I hate Jason)(that was a long backet). How many people here prefered Jason to Rob?
*Quietly raises hand. I thought Jason had the best performance out of all (save maybe James) and could pump anyone up. Sure he used picks and he wasn't the greatest bass shredder, but I loved his solo's in Live ****. And just his all around presence and rythmic playing in the background always made Metallica feel complete to me (misleading, from watching videos and performances Metallica felt complete to me. I only got into Metallica after Jason left). Rob doesn't seem to fit in all that well... He's too... different. There was Cliff who was just a god. Then there was Jason, the man who took on the responsibility and pressure of filling Cliff's shoes admist a choatic period in time for Metallica, headbanging all the way. And then theres Rob whos the only man I've seen in pony-tail (volunatarily) and walks on stage likes hes trying to fart or take a turd...
You?

**** dude you know your shiite
i watched a craappy metallica doco called dark souls or something and it showed a bit on how jason was tormented in the early stages of his involvement and how he was treated like craap by the fans after cliff died. i think jason is a top bloke, down to earth and genuinely a funny guy, and can be serious and get his @ss into gear when he needed to
robs a good bassist, but cqant compare to either jason or cliff. i know im gunna ge -repped for this, but him in there with the ponytail and the shorts and craap makes it look like he;s just come out of some california skate band
craaps me off
ah well at least he can play the riffs in the background at concerts so tallica keep rockin out live
peace
yeah the other metallica players used to tkae the piss out of jason on stage! i never liked jason but i consider that really unfair.
Jason may have completed the band but i dont think he brings aything extra to the band like rob and cliff did. Considering Bob Rock wrote most of the bass in st Anger i think in the next record we will see rob at his best.
Back on the Topic of Mustaine.
I agree Mustaine should just get over it.
But what Metallica did to him (As in wake him up, drive him to a bus stop, he's quite high at the time :p, give him a bus ticket and say **** off) is pretty tight.
On another note, I urge anyone who's a fan of Metallica to give Megadeth a listen :thumb:
Great band, Metallica are and always will be my favourite band, but Megadeth are great.
What did everyone think of the meeting beetween Lars and Dave Mustaine in the Some Kind of Monster film?
I think Dave needs to move on.
Ok heres what I think
I don't blame him at all. He was the guitarist of the soon-to-be greatest metal band in the world. He got kicked out. Now he will always be the number two.
Would Metallica still have been the greatest metal band ever with Dave? No one will ever know. What we all know is that Kirk replaced Dave in what is now the greatest metal band ever (not sayin IMO, it's more than just my opinion).
Considering Metallica has sold 90,000,000+ albums, and Megadeth has only sold 15,000,000+ albums, how do you think Dave feels walking through a world of Metallica fans making fun of him for being kicked out?
Yes it has been 20 years since he was kicked out, but he's always going to be number two.

I'd agree with that. In fact, given all that happened to him back then, I'd say it's admirable he kept going at all and moreover, produced work of as high a calibre.
I have great respect for Dave. Even more so since I saw Megadeth live - he struck me as a really amiable guy.
I suspect he's changed a great deal in 20 years.

Well, Megadeth more so broke up, but they finished their contract with (Insert their music label) so yeah. I believe Mustaine shoudl go on a solo project, would be pretty cool imo.

Well you also know that the film didn't show the whole meeting between Lars and Dave, only the parts which kinda made Metallica looked better (Well, as I haven't seen it myself, my opinion doesn't go far, but this is what I have heard, and from alot of the 'non-Metallica' fans I know irl this is the same thing I expected happened, they all tell me how much of a ***** Mustaine was in the film, since they have seen it).

I agree with Munky Magik. First of all if they (Jaymz&Lars) did have arguements about something, they must have talked about it alone, in privacy. But as the movie shows, the camera is everywhere. I haven't seen the whole movie but I saw many cut pieces from it, I think it is indeed shot to be sold well.
Well Lars, you're a marketing genious. You knew that the part with Dave will make even higher sells. Some 'deth fans of course wanted to watch it because of Dave, and I'm sure they did. More money??? Oh yes !
A 'tallica movie featuring a respected musician i.e Mustaine. More arguements??? Oh Yes !
I'm sure it was meant to be well sold. Maybe in some parts Jaymz was sincere...I'm sure he was because that man's eyes never lie. But the rest....NO!
It is indeed a very interesting film and I will buy the DVD for my birthday in early March. But to tell you the truth, I don't think this is what we wanted to see....this is what Mr.Ulrich wanted us to see.

mustaine...hammett...and hetfield in one band... :)....... :D ..it wouldnt work though, lol. Firstly it would turn into a big old guitar mess G3 style and the heavy metal style would be lost. Secondly there would be so much competition between Hammett and Mustaine it wuld cause friction. And lastly and most importantly as SKOM demonstrates it is bad enough having 2 huge egos (lars and james) without adding Mustaine...it would be chaos!! nice idea tho :naughty:

he's not a wuss, but he knows lars, james, or rob can kick his ***. i think even if he was stronger he wouldn't like fighting. it's just that way he was brought up i guess
Kirks childhood:
Parented by an Irish man and Filipino woman, the father would regularly beat up Kirks mum... and therefore Kirk.
Kirk also had an abusive next door neighbour that raped him and his dog.
When Kirk took up guitar, he was offered the choice of giving up guitar and staying at home or sticking with it but leaving the house.
Guess what he chose? :thumb:
His on stage (and frequently off-stage) character seems a very timid, and rather camp one... this is true.
But hey, they have Hetfield and Ulrich to be the loud ones.
His demeanour and the fact that he doesnt like to be touched by people he doesnt know and trust very well probably came from his upbringing...
During Black album-ReLoad era, Kirk was quite a druggy.
He has been surfing* along with yoga and Lacto-Ovo Vegetarianism to help cleanse himself of all drugs and cravings... and as he said himself, (according to his girlfriend) "being a Lacto-Ovo makes my sperm taste better!"
:thumb: Nice Kirk...
*Rob is also an avid surfer and snowboarder and regularly surfs with Kirk... thats actually how Rob got to hear from Metallica, cuz Kirk knew him from surfing.
I am actually a fountain of knowledge, all hail me...
Sometimes when Kirk's on stage especially For Whom The Bell Tolls Woodstock '99 I reckon he's showing off :p
There's one part during the first 'solo' where he's walking down the front of the stage, and you just know he's struting. :p
Sorry, kinda worthless...
But to the guy above me, that was awesome know any history on the other guys? (Including Mustaine, hahaha :D).
Edit: I don't quite understand the raped his dog part though :/

The one that says "MORE BEER" right? Man thats a beaut.
Probably the one off of the Seattle vid. The one that says EET FUK....I liked that one. I'd like to see how a double neck Explorer plays....
It's not a very good documentary becasue it doesn't present the truth, but is edited to make the band look good.
I imagine the way things are, and they way they appear in the film are rather different.
Have you even seen it? Your far from correct. It makes the band look terrible over the past 5 or 6 years and then shows the truth about how they came back together and put out an album the sold millions a copies.
THEN they went on two tours. so it's showing their hell, and their struggles and how they got out of it
I reckon one of their best songs is the memory remains but all my friends think it's crap. I need some support...
I think it's far from their best. It's good, just way far away from best

I do agree that it shows the inner workings of the band, but in some scenes, it makes them look like gold. For example, the Mustaine scene (both cuts)..

Theys the same, just different stickers. :p
More Metallica knowledge: Hetfield was wearing a double neck explorer and playing Fade to Black during that famous pyro incident... the guitars inlays were ducks and its torched now.
Chu; Thanks :D . Youre right about Kirk, he shows off a fair bit, he and Rob sang a verse each during Seek and Destroy at a show in Pensacola recently (also the first time theyd played Call of Ktulu since '85, excluding S&M).
And the film is most certainly not edited to make them look good... what about that scene with Lars selling his paintings?? His management told him not to put that in cuz it makes him look all greedy and stuff and he said they had to put it in there or it was denying the fans the true Lars.

I'd say that was a crazy bit of knowledge from you, but your too busy saying it youself
But I love how Kirk performs, no one can copy him. Anyone can get up and do a James (Lower mike, bend knee's and neck when you sing, and constantly tilt your head while doing a greedy and evil smile) , Jason (Run around the stage and headbang like a crazy mother****er), Rob (Just take a **** on stage and headbang side to side istead of up and down) or Lars (Moon the crowd constantly, keep hitting cymbals etc). But KIRK, its just amazing how much of Kirk he puts into his performance and playing. They way he taps his foot during slow parts, sticks out his middle finger, constantly lean back and forward with his back, run around stage really fast (seriously, in live footage, one camera angle will have Kirk by Lars, but the next second on a different camera, hes headbanging away by James). And his face when he plays his solos.... So much of Kirks emotions go into his solo's and its a beaut to see them live while hes performing. And then there are times when Kirk is just funny (Solo with his *** in Live **** San Diego) and when he just head bangs. And he has his own way of headbanging also. His neck doesn't move, his whole body does. And he doesn't use his hair in headbanging like Jason or James. The good part of that was once he lost his hair, he didn't stop headbanging like James. And Kirk plays in such a way thats like hes challenging his fans as he looks around during songs. That guy is great. I could go on forever. In fact, if i wasn't so busy, i would.
(you'll notice I left Cliff out becaue thats a topic on its own)

you guys do know that most of metallicas best songs were actually written and thought up by dave mustaine of megadeth right. if you dont believe me just listen to The four Horsemen and then listen to Megadeth - Mecanix. dave mustaine originally wrote that but metallica stole it so mustaine had to rewrite the words and intro but most of it is note for note (megadeths is faster and much much better though)

Yes, everyone in this thread is aware that Dave had a hand in writing some of their earlier material.
That they are Metallica's best songs is your opinion, not others.
The songs weren't stolen, Dave gave them permission to use them which is why his name appears on the writing credits.
The two versions of the song show how Dave and James had different ideas as to how it should go.

Why yes, yes I do. Hence why his name appears on the writing credits, The Four Horsmen is slower and it has the whole breakdown section in the middle.
St Anger is one example of Hetfields writing, but he has many, many more.
Basing your opinion solely on one album makes you a moron.
I imagine that Dave wouldn't want to avoid a court case, he was hurt by them and would want to fight them and also he doesn't have any problems going to court(see Dave Ellefson).

I'm sorry, but this is just not true. Cliff Burton is good, yes, but definetly not the best. You probably need to listen to more music before you go and say that he is the best, because he definetly isnt. Just because he made "Pulling Teeth", which is a kick *** bass solo, doesnt mean that all other bassists cannot compare to him. Listen to Victor Wooten, Ryknow, Les Claypool, and Flea. They can give Cliff a run for his money. :thumb:

One of many songs that Hetfield wrote. He wrote Enter Sandman, the song that brought Metallica to commercial sucess, he wrote One; he, Cliff, Kirk, and Lars wrote Fade to Black...he wrote The God That Failed, about his mother being a Christian Scientist and not believing in doctors and believing that God will heal you..
and metallica sued dave mustaine for the writes to his songs and he finally just let them have the songs to avoid a court case. look up your facts metallica is a bunch of scumbags. :thumb:
Umm, no, dick...Mustaine wrote the songs. Why would he want to avoid a court case?
In any case, they took the riffs Mustaine wrote, slowed them down, re-wrote the lyrics, added an interlude, and retitled it The Four Horsemen. Mustaine released his original as the Mechanix.
you guys do know that most of metallicas best songs were actually written and thought up by dave mustaine of megadeth right.
Wrong, right there. The Unforgiven and Fade to Black were NOT written by Dave Mustaine.
if you dont believe me just listen to The four Horsemen and then listen to Megadeth - Mecanix. dave mustaine originally wrote that but metallica stole it so mustaine had to rewrite the words and intro but most of it is note for note (megadeths is faster and much much better though)
Umm, no. Mustaine wrote that WHILE he was in the band. After they kicked him out, Hetfield and Ulrich re-wrote the lyrics, slowed it down, and added the interlude and solo that's in Four Horsemen. Mustaine, meanwhile, kept the original and released it on his debut album in 1985, "Killing is My Business...And Business Is Good!"

By fanboy I don't mean someone who likes the music of that band/artist. I mean someone who refuses to see the faults of the band, say anything even slighty negative about them, or see differing opinions.
For example:

Fanboy: "OMG!! Lars is the best drummer ever, I'd like you to show me someone better!!"

Exactly, I don't like the Beatles at all. Their music just doesn't suit my tastes. But I have a a great deal of respect for their musical inspirations and attainments.
