Was it just me or was the forum down for a day?

yea i've been tryin to get onto it all day, it was down.

it always seems to be down, or freezes. a lot (it's not my computer, i've tried many)

Metallica r the greatest band ever!!! the best songs i think r Enter Sandman, Sad but true, Hit the lights, Motorbreath, leper masiah, master of puppets, call of the klutu, one and many more. the best solo has to b battery or mayb outlaw torn.

oh a black album kid...not that the songs are bad, but your favorite???

There's an edit button for a reason.

As far as the concerts, Live **** > S&M > Cunning Stunts.

I hate his voice on CS, it breaks often (most noticable in Sad But True)...S&M's feature to listen to just the band or just the symphony is nifty. But Live **** owns all; especially the Seattle one.

I haven't seen Cunning Stunts, but otherwise

Live Sh*t > S&M

S&M needed Fade to Black (and Sanitarium, I'm pretty sure it's not on there). Those, IMO, are their two best songs and neither of them was on S&M.
AND Live Sh*t is3 cds and 2 dvds, which kicks ***

some people cant accept that other people like black/load/reload/or even st. anger.i personally dont care what other people like, its just that load/reload isnt the top of metallicas game and other people let you know about when you say "i like load/reload".

I like Load more than Ride the Lightning. Problem?

I think the reason why Fade and Sanitarium weren't on S&M was probably because there wasn't much the symphony was able to do. For example, they were going to put Unforgiven on S&M, but they couldn't come up with a symphony arrangement at all.

Man, I just realized something that makes me very happy while also making me very sad. I just started a metal song for my music composition class, and I just noticed now, but it sounds dangerously like MOP. I use GP4 to make my songs so if anyone wants to hear it, I have it in midi format. I never realized metallica influenced my music playing and writing so much. Just the other day, my teacher took me and asked my why I had all of a sudden started writing all my solo's in the penatonic scale/format and started over exessivly (sp?) using fast triplets and tapping.

Things such as their getting back to their AFJA form.

I can let you guys listen to it, but I don't know how. Is there some way I can just temporarily store it (hopefully without registering into any dumbass scandal)?

ps. its not THAT metal, I just like to call it that because it makes me feel good. I've been getting mixed reviews from people that its rock and some people say it has a slightly punkish sound.

I don't know if this has been done, but has anyone noticed some patterns in the tracklisting for Metallica albums?

Mainly on AJFA, MoP, and RTL.

All the title tracks are track 2, this includes St. Anger also; the only other album named after a song.

To Live is To Die is the second to last track, as is Orion. Call of Ktulu isn't, so I guess that really isn't a pattern.

The mellower songs seem (I haven't looked at EVERY album, just these major ones) to always be on track 4; Sanitarium, One, Fade To Black.

The most explosive tracks are normally track 1 (Battery, Blackened, Fight Fire With Fire), but I guess that's true of most albums.

Anyone else notice stuff like that? Or am I just incredibly bored?

I definitly noticed that too. I think I read somewhere that they tried to get out of that pattern after the Black Album, but since they were trying to "return to metal", or whatever, with St. Anger they did it again.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I saw that somewhere.

Firstly if you're going to diss a band, can you spell it write? It's Metallica.

Secondly, you can hardly call those 30 second to 2 minute solos 2 hours, and they are everything but the 12th fret. As a matter of fact, he really doesn't use the 12th fret as much as you say.

Thirdly, every band has tunes smartness. And the "cool" tunes happen to be the most repetitive tunes. Can Tom play something new? Seriously I'll turn on any Blink 182 song and I can learn it in about 5 seconds by picking up my guitar and playing Am F C G.

I think he'll be in for a long time. Jason was in for 15+ years and this is probably a dream come true for any bassist. The only thing that would make him leave is if jason and james couldn't keep there cool or if they stopped going on tour or took some 6 yr break like they did between garage and st anger

I was watching the SKOM bonus DVD today, and there's a clip in there about Jason whining about them not telling him they were going to play at the Raider's parking lot. The band, with Bob and Phil, theorized that Jason only left the band to hurt them, not because he actually wanted to leave. One of the roadcrew guys had a tape of a call that Jason made that he whined about the Raiders "gig", and he called the band homos and said that it was bull****.

Unforgiven was all Kirk. Maybe the softer solo was james, but the main one was Kirk.

One couldn't've been James. Kirk is the major tapper and stuff. I 99% doubt it was all James. He did the solo after the chorus. I really doubt he did the intro solo or the main solo.

Stage prescence: Jason > Cliff > Rob
Vocals: Uhh...Jason by far (did Cliff ever do vocals? I've never seen him do them, so I dunno how good he could sing)

From what I understand, Jason's plan was to break the band down by him leaving, but after the counsoler came in, he was pissed off because the band was going all fine and dandy. Putting that aside, Newsted is probably my favorite Metal bassist (besides 'Arry and Rob/Cliff) and my favorite Metal vocalist besides Araya and Mustaine

Cliff did vocals, I think?
Also, Cliff had an amazing stage presence. Sure when Cliff was around it wasn't quite the same presence as Newstead was aiming for, in my opinion, but Cliff could definately get a crowd going, all he had to do was play 2 notes on his bass, and the audience would go off, they (Metallica w/ Cliff) also had different size audience/s to what they had with Newstead.

What? of course bands can sell out.
When a band changes their ideals/sounds/etc... to create more money it's called selling out.
The majority of bands don't make decisions for themselves, but take susggestions from their record companies.

A lot of people rag on St. Anger. While I agree that it was pretty lackluster
compared to Metallica's previous works, there are some cool riffs and ideas
that went into it. Example, I tried (for fun) to learn to play the intro to
the title track and the intro to Dirty Window, and found them to be
really good riffs. I think that maybe James' lyrics kinda drug the whole feel
down for the album. I know for a fact that he is a better songwriter than that.

If you watch the DVD you see that James and Lars both say that this is
new material that they had released specifically for this concert.

My biggest problem with S&M, the orchestra can sometimes drown out the band. Is anyone else amazed at how awesome the Battery intro sounded?
I noticed that problem with a couple songs. Battery's intro was the
S**T! I am still partial to the original intro though.

If by rumors you mean confirmed plans on a new album that they are already recording, then yes, there are rumors. :)

I haven't heard any, but hopefully it will have a more thrashy feel to it.
Maybe something like ...And Justice For All w/ Ride the Lightning thrown in it.

No, I was referring to Clover and -human dude. Ktulu was on ride the lightning
and was written by Lars, James, Cliff, and (believe it or not) Dave Mustaine
(before he left the band.) I think that was in '82 or '83 (when they wrote
Ktulu)

Is the Fade to Black intro solo that hard to play.
I have played it, but the part where kirk is speeding it up it is a little hard to play.
I'm a lead guitarist, but that is a lead that I can't seem to get down.
Usually I just play the harmony under it and let a friend of mine play
the lead.(He does it great. Maybe he'll show it to me)

Jaymez Kirk and lars had a huge argument over putting solos on st anger... Kirk wanted solos on there but Jaymez said that solos would make the album a thing of the past... Also lars added... solos are not a thing of current music and i think you just want to play solos for your EGO!!! got that of SKOM

Thats bullsh*t. They actually didn't let Kirk do any solos? They must be out of their minds.

Watch the Some kind of monster official DVD.... theres my proof, and believe me Kirky isnt amused by the no solos rule.... Although they did not allow solos on St anger i believe they comprimised at at a live Metallica show in an unnamed venue i went to Kirk did put a solo in Dirty window... Also on the some kinda monster single they have released a live version of dirty window with two solos in it

I personally would not know... I am guessing that Metallica have heard the flack they have got for having no solos in S.t anger, that is why they let kirk play solos in live gigs,, so i am guessing from the angry mob of people demanding solos it would probably be true that solos will be in the new album (Just my opinion though)
