of all the songs you can play by metallica, what would you choose if you had the chance to play it on a stage with the guys with 20 000 fans watching?

fade to black cos im a bassist and theres less chance i would muff it up, and i could cruise around a bit hey

Creeping Death Metal Militia or Trapped Under Ice (to surprise the guys) would be my choices.

Probably The 4 Horsemen. Because that's the only 'tallica song I can play with closed eyes and even sing at the same time..........and even fly through both solos :D

I would play rhythm guitar and sing "Battery" a la James. There's no way I can play those solos, though.

I have a question that doesn't exactly have to do with metallica, but rather something many metallica fans have been accused of:

What's the difference between a Hardcore fan and a fanboy? Im quite tired of seeing obvious Metallica fans being flamed on this forum, seemingly just because we are fans.

guitarcreep13
02-09-2005, 10:02 PM
(This is a guess)
hardcore is metallica all the way. you like know every song and it's lyrics.
fanboys just likes some numbers

Huber
02-09-2005, 10:08 PM
I'd say the Hardcore Fan is someone who just downright loves the band.

A fan boy is someone with a closed mind and will choose something simply because it is [insert band here] related. For instance those album polls. A fan boy would simply vote for AJFA because he loves Metallica, and wouldn't even bother to give The Wall, or Lateralus a listen.

CreepingDeath~

Fanboys won't listen to anything but their favorite band. They're close minded, and never even considered that their band might have a flaw.

I used to listen to Metallica non-stop, but I would never have considered myself a fanboy. I realized there were flaws, even though it was my favorite band at the time. Now I listen to Metallica much less than other stuff, because I kind of wore it out. I know a lot about them now though.

I over-listened to Metallica. To be honest, I haven't listened to a full album (just random songs) for a long time. The brilliance kind of wore off when I heard some of the songs for over the hundredth time. I used to listen to them on the way to school every morning, when I got home, and before I went to bed. If you listen to anything too much, it gets old.

You should give them a thourough listen. To get the full experience of Pink Floyd you need to listen to the full album. Just give them a try, with an open mind, and I bet you'll change your mind. If you don't, that's cool though, because like I said, to each his own.

I have the RTL book, but it's not with me right now. I can look for you tomorow though. I'll take a look at it anyway though.

edit: From just glancing at it, it looks allright. It looks a little distorted, so if there's another version maybe try that. You know its usually not a good tab if they leave lines out to save time. That is a sign of lots of laziness, and probably means that the tab isn't great.

I used to listen to Metallica non stop as well, for about a period of a month. But then, I opened up to other bands, (such as Iron Miaden, Tool etc) and now I don't listen to Metallica as much because I am listening to other bands also. I think this makes me enjoy Metallica songs more because I am not wearing the songs out.

MetallicA, just get Guitar Pro4. Its an interactive tab machine where you can download any Metallica tab and hear it, edit it and judge it yourself. songs can be downloaded from mysongbook.com, the program u get from guitarpro4.com or kazaa

2. The hell? I just had it. I know he died in a bus crash though.

7.Ozzy, Right?
9. Dam dude, he died?

Okay maybe it wasn't that big of a chunk, but oh well.

Just one final thing. A bit of personnal opinion and you can take it to heart or take it with a grain of salt I could give a **** less, I'm still gonna say it.
Metallica was great up until St. Anger. From then on they have started to slide into a great big pile of suckdom. Now St. Anger may have some good songs, but judging from the title song it's pretty awful. They are starting to suck because they have changed thier sound way too much. I feel like thier trying to fit in with the newer bands.

Ron Quintana came up with the name: Lars and James stole it from a magazine he created (which was then renamed)
Cliff wasn't actually their first bassist, it was Ron Mcgovney.

I think if anyone dies in the band, it's over. Metallica without James, Kirk, or Lars, will never be the same Metallica. Even though they're not the same now as they have been, I don't think the chemistry could ever be the same again if one of the members died.

Those three are all equally quintessential Metallica. There would be no Metallica without any one of them.

What worries me is that this may actually be sooner than later if the reports I hear of Kirk getting arthritis are true.

Ok, here are a few questions to you 'tallica fans:

1. Hit the Lights was co-written with??? (James and ? (not Lars))

2. Who wrote each lead on the first recorded version of Hit The Lights (Metal Massacre)?

3. James came up with the Seek'n'Destroy riff at work. Where was he employed back
then?

4. What was the name of 'tallica's "black" guitarist?

5. During bassist rehearsals after Cliff's death, guys were asking each new bassist coming into the room "ok, which song of ours do you want to play?". During Jason's turn he replied "?"

6. One of the earliest 'tallica songs had these lines in lyrics, which song was it?

"I'm giving you my room service, and I know it's more than enough"

7. This guy was allowed by his parents to move into their second house and live there with James.

-Why did his parents allow him and his friend (James) live there?

I was looking at some 80s metallica albums, which are the best in my opinion, and I noticed in the foldout booklets that some of the guys were wearing a belt that looked like it had bullets all across it. Lars is wearing it in the first picture on Ride The Lightning.

If anyone knows were I can buy(online) a belt like this I would be so ****ing gratefull. Help me out!

i think lars did alot for metallica, maybe not in the link you posted, but he did help metallica esablish themselves in the 80s. You can read under each songtitle in the Kill'em All, Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, and And Justice For All booklets and look under who wrote the song and lars is there everytime. you might be able to replace a lazy drummer, but you cant replace a imprtant songwriter who also created the band

Remeber, it might be better to kick him out for the performances...but without lars there wouldnt be a metallica. and I think it would be wrong to kick him out after 20 years. they dont need to kick him out, thy're already rolling in millions.

FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS

The lyrics of the song "For Whom The Bell Tolls" are based on the same titled Ernest Hemmingway novel, "For Whom The Bell Tolls" which is about an American who is given the job of taking out a bridge held by the Fasist army in the Spanish Civil War - the precurser to the World War II. He fell in love and then found out very disturbing things about life and death.

does anyone know why lars changed his drumstyle after ajfa?is it because he got his feet ran over or cuz hes lazy?
Well, it's not just Lars that changed his style after AJFA. The way his drumming changed is indicative of the changes the band as a whole went through. During the 80's, the way they wrote music was complex and layered, almost like a classical music composition.

Then they brought Bob Rock on board for the Black album, and Bob Rock's style is very much about simpler, stripped down heavy rock. Whether or not you think that's a good thing, of course, is up for debate, but that's the reason for the change.

-What was the guy's name?
-Why did his parents allow him and his friend (James) live there?
-What did James teach this guy to do?

-------------------------------------

These questions will keep you busy for a while (I hope) :p

Since nobody else has taken a crack at answering all these, I'll give it a shot.

2) Lloyd Grant

3) A sticker factory

4) Lloyd Grant

5) "No, what do YOU want me to play".

JUST metallica. Nobody else.....

If it were REALLY up to me, I would age them all down 30 or so years also. And replace James Aquafina bottle with a keg.

Now how does that sound

\m/Pete\m/
02-11-2005, 12:02 AM
i wouldent have

I think that i would've gotten a little less "Metallicized" if they would have just stayed with the same pattern that they started off on with Kill Em All.

Thats why i really cant stand Slayer anymore because all of their albums are the same to me. Im glad that Metallica has done what theyve done because thats what made me the fan i am today.

oh and yeah i thought Godsmack kicked *** when i saw them

What would be a sweet, yet feesable, line up for the Summer Sanitarium tour

and by feesable i mean dont list **** like Obituary or Old Mans Child or anything to that affect

I think i t would be sweet for them and KsE or Shadows Fall to tour with them

or In Flames, which they've played with them before but i couldnt see it (cuz it was in Spain)

update: I re-listened to MOP, the guitar work is definatly more intricate and edgy than load/reload. I know I could never play that myself. I liked the latter half of the cd and am relistening to ride the lightning. same deal there but I am more interested in this cd then i had previously been. personally i still prefer the last 3 cd's i got. imo

I am beginning to feel that if i like their latter stuff they are losing it as a metal band.

I rarely listen to metal, if it doesnt catch me quickly i change the station usually.

Metallica caught me with sandman and i have liked load/reload. but relistening to mop and rtl has me seeing how they have changed from their early stuff. i mainly like pink floyd/ac-dc and rush type music along with classic rock and blues. i think metalica is falling into that style.

Squirrel

No, for two albums they has an obvious bluesy influenced sound, noway are they falling into that style.

Dude, you rock ! All answers are correct, except:

2 - On the very first recording of Hit The Lights (for MM) Mustaine played leads but they decided to keep second lead of Grant becuase they liked it more that Dave's.

So it was:
Lead 1 - Dave / Lead 2 - Lloyd / Lead 3 (the big one) - Dave

Hey, i don't know if this has been asked before (i'm not sifting through 500 odd pages of posts lol, and i think the title might come up quite a few times in a search) but has anyone read the unofficial biography of Metallica by Joel McIver called ...And Justice For All? Metallica's live shows aren't as good as everyone makes them out to be.

well i think it was a debate on them being a studio band and piecing bits together in the studio to overcome their inability to play it in one stretch and seeing them live was a disapointment. but there was a few opposing oppinions also. i went to metallica.com. the set i think i saw advertised (must have been mtv i guess) was "Some kind of monster" dvd.

James is very under control of what he plays, even kirk admires how he can play those riffs n sing at the same time.... James aint no ameteur... He aint sposed to solo, just coz when he does he makes faces dont mean he struggles... Ur an idiot

There's an edit button for a reason.

As far as the concerts, Live **** > S&M > Cunning Stunts.

I hate his voice on CS, it breaks often (most noticable in Sad But True)...S&M's feature to listen to just the band or just the symphony is nifty. But Live **** owns all; especially the Seattle one.
