Emotional solos of course. I think Unforgiven's solo was pretty **** emotional.
But defenitely shorter songs and solos.

yes, it was. I still can't believe the band didn't like it at first...
But I think most of his solos have emotion. The only one that i think that doesn't have emotion is probably Sanitarium (main solo) because it's all at one speed and nothing changes

I don't mind long songs as long as they have a genuine progression to them, ie speeding up as they go along.
To take One and Fade To Black as examples; they start slowly, but bear little resemblance by the end.
The problem with the songs on St. Anger and the giants on AJFA is that they're too samey and tend to just blend completely into themselves.

Best song ever...
anyways, agreed. AJFA has some long songs, but at least they solo. ...AJFA and One are the good songs on that album because they start slow and end well.

If 'Tallica do decide to more epic songs like Fade to black, one etc... then they need to try and change them a bit. I really won't appreciate it if they just end up sounding the same as the rest of their epic's.

It actually did sound sorta like Metallica. The singer sounded like James most of the time, but there were a few points where you could tell it wasn't him. The guitar tone was a little bit off too, but overall it wouldn't be hard to confuse that with Tallica

Best Tracks from it :
Damage Inc (Flotsam & Jetsam)
Whiplash (Motorhead)

**** yeah I would love to see Dream Theater covering some Metallica. Lol I also think that's funny that Motorhead is on a Metallica tribute album, since Metallica were the ones heavily influenced by MH.
And about good ol Cliff, it's really too bad they lost him, because he was definitely the classical sound of the band, into the instrumentals and stuff like that. I'm pretty sure that him not being around had a lot to do with them not putting instrumental songs on any albums past ...And Justice. (To live is to Die is a tribute, so...) And long songs on the new album wouldn't be a bad thing, I just don't think they should be too repetitive. People were listing all the "epics"...what about Disposable Heroes man? I can hardly think of a better song to rock out to.

Thats because SMLTS represented the antithesis of what Cobain wanted Nirvana to be. Anyway to be acoustic it would have needed a huge rejigging, probably even moreso than Clapton's Layla unplugged.
However, thats all a discussion for another time and place.
I'm sure I heard somewhere that Fade To Black, Sanitarium and The Unforgiven were all planned for S&M2, but it never happened because of the death of Micheal Kamen :upset:

Sort of out of the blue, but when Jason first joined the band and made the video "One" (First video I ever saw of them), was it just me or did it look like Jason was a finger bassist? He appears to be using his fingers on the chorus. I've never really payed attention much to details or cared for them, but finger bassing is much cooler than pick (obviously). I just found out he used pick when I saw Live **** and his little bass doodle. Since then I've noticed he used pick in all concerts, so I felt pretty stupid. But the solo in the middle of Cliff 'Em All (not Anesthesia) by Cliff was amazing, I didn't know fingers could move that fast.
Out of curiosity, are there any other bass players that use wah-wah or some sort of distorter on their bass during solo's? Because I really like them and it would be cool to see more video's or audio clips of it. I'm not a huge fan of regular bass sound or slap bass, so ya.

I don't mind St. Anger, because I can choose not to listen to it. I don't like his voice live, but I used to like how he sounded. I'm not bashing St. Anger. His voice isn't bad, just not my favorite.

I just bought Load 2 hours ago. After listening to it I can say that it was worth it. I loved it more than Black album.
From the songs I haven't heard before(from Load), The House That Jack Built, 2 x 4 and The Outlaw Thorn are just great.
Three more CDs to complete my 'tallica collection:
Garage. Inc, Reload and S&M :p
