meh, ill just do some mix and match with both tabs

I own the music book for the Master of Puppets album. It's tabbed by the pros, transcribed from the original music. It has the tab as well as the music. I've yet to find any tab on the web that's even remotely similar as far as accuracy or even being remotely correct.

If you want accurate tab for any song, the last place to find it is some random place on the web. The best place to find it is in a music store in a book. That's my advice.

mxtabs is good for the popular easy songs. Most if not the majority of tabs on any website that allows people to upload tab is wrong and badly wrong at that.

If you wanna just wing it like most people do, then use online tabs. If you really wanna learn a song to bask in the awesome playing of Cliff Burton, go buy a book. If you do buy the book, do what I suggest. Compare it to any of the tab online. You'll never trust online tab again.

what do you like best?
"the unforgiven"
VS
"the unforgiven II"

i like the unforgiven better...but it's still not one of the high points in metallica's careers IMO

Unforgiven II is a good song, but The Ungorgiven is better.

Unforgiven II pwns in any way. Lyrics are better, music is better, song construction is better, Jaymz sings much much better and the solo is much more beautiful !

Arrrrgggg anyway, I'm sure in a couple of days I'll kill my rhythm guitairst/vocalist ! That guy is so lazy. We all agreed to play more of 'tallica stuff and me (lead guitar) and our drummer worked so hard on so many songs.

But this singer didn't learn anything again. He know's only a few 'tallica songs and he's asking us to play placebo, sum41 and stuff like that. He's a good guitairst but I can't stand playing punk rock anymore. Don't get me wrong I love punk, but I love listening to it....not playing :upset:

My drummer bitc.hed at me for getting a guitar instead of an amp for my bass. We have enough amps, I don't see why he must talk down to me. Dam.n is it just me or is it hard to find a band where you get along well with everyone in it?

It's not just you. People have different tastes and ther're always ready to argue about anything. Luckily, I'm in a very good relationship with our drummer. We've first met when my family moved near the place he lives. We both were 12 years old then and now it's been already 7 years since we've become frineds.

So it's mostly that guitarist/singer who kind of drives me mad. He's not a bad friend to spend time with, but he doesn't know what is to be responsible. We're paying to that place's owner for every 2 hours of jamming. So I'm like: Dude, I'm giving money you know, let's make as much useful as we can......but he's still walking on clouds

Our singer is has been my best friend for close to 4 years (he's changed recently, so we aren't as good frineds as we were before). But this is what annoys me.

HE REFUSES TO SING UNLESS HE'S STARING AT A WALL AND WE ARE TURNED THE OTHER WAY!!

Defenitely annoying. I can't stand it!

We did once. Actually he quit before we could fire him because he said we didn't do any work. THE GUYS WITH THE INSTRUMENTS WHO PLAY THE WHOLE SONG THROUGH WAITING FOR HIM TO SING DIDN'T DO ANY WORK!! But now he's back. I didn't want him, but the other guys say we are in desperate need. And I can't argue that right now, because it's true.

I say if your going to play music, then do it the right way. Dont play music just because you think you have to. Explain to them how the singer is going to hold you back. The singer is the frontman who gets the crowd pumped and if he cant even sing while his own band watches him then hes hopeless.

Good point. Personally, I'm in this band for fun. But everyone else really wants to make a career out of it. This doesn't mean I don't take it seriously thoug, I do put a lot of effort into the creative process, both music and lyric-wise on all the instruments.

Houston Texas. We are the only Metal band in the school. The other 6 (yes 6) bands in our school are either punk, ska, or emo. And there is such a huge demand for Metal bands right now. My band (Incognito) and two other bands in the school play Metal, but we don't have the halfstacks and the money to play at clubs like these other bands do.

It's not our fault that our mommy's and daddy's don't buy us a $2500 PRS.

(As is the situation with one of the other bands.)

My mom was telling me this funny story about Texas. She said that the weather turned to 0 degree's and they closed the schools LMFAO.
It seems like most americans dont know what real cold is and think that a little breeze is a blizzard, soooooo pathetic. It's -50 here by the way.
I agree with the mommmy's&Daddy's bit, i seen my friends girlfriend get a convertible for her 16th birthday, stuff like that makes me sick.

- The lack of Metal, sad, sad indeed.

- About the 0 degrees thing, I wouldn't know, it didn't happen in my district.

- Weatherwise, it snowed on christmas eve and I was sweating outside 4 days later.

- The guy across the street got his daughter a Corvette Stingray for her 16th.

Haha that man must be very shy. That's not goog though. Our singer/guitarist is a sick monkey. When he sings too high or low i.e makes a mistake, he'll stare at with an angry face as if we did something wrong.

I even remember 2 or 3 weeks ago, during jamming our singer couldn't concentrate on singing Fade To Black and it was getting worse and worse (he didn't warp up enough) and finally he went too high completely ruining the song.

Can you imagine what he did???

He stopted playing and shouted into the mic to our drummer: You fvcking idiot what the hell are you doing??? and then threw his pick into drummer's face.

The drummer couldn't endure that anymore (yes, everyone always blames only them) so he immediately jumped on the singer beating him. I swear if I didn't interfier the singer would be cut into pieces.

It's cool though........they forgot that thing in 10 minutes and went on jamming :p

In the city I live (in Asia), we're pretty much the only Heavy Metal band(we never performed). There's also one nu-metal band. All the rest are Black Metal bands. I'm fcving sick of them. There are about 10 or 15 BM bands here. When I go to some local shows all I see are those BM guys screaming something into the mic, horrible bass sound and a sweaty-smelly drummer. Those guys are so funny. They wear leather pants with lots of needles and bracelets and paint their faces :)

can someone suggest more songs from metallica that are decent besides

master of puppets
fade to black
the one
enter sandman
the unforgivin

i know there is more, those are just the ones im familiar with:)

This brings up a good point no offense to anyone out there but people who only list songs like these,(good songs no matter how many times they are played on the radio) are what i like to call Metalli-posers. If you want a good metallica song, Listen to Kill 'em all through Justice, yes the black albulm and anything else

sorry for the bad english...anyway, its hard for me to translate it but here is something that was on an isreali news paper (i hope youll understand my almost english...) it was published a few weeks ago:
"metallica is about to release an E.P. called "some kind of monster" the soundtrack of their movie. it will include 8 tracks-6 of them are live preformences (11 june 2003 paris) the four horseman, motorbreath, hit the lights, ride the lightnings, damage inc and (a song from "muster of puppets" that i do not know how to write)
you will find in the disc an original version of some kind of monster (from st. anger) and a special remix of it. if you will insert the disc to your p.c. you will be able to watch trailers of the movie. a true fan of metallica will be glad to hear those new versions to the old heavy classics and james mumbeling words in frence"
last week another information about metallica was published saying that soon you will be able to buy dolls of the members of the group with their instruments and stuff. this set will be called "muster of puppets playset"
hope you got the point of what i was trying to say......:(

i kno it's not to me, but after you quote someone copy the other qoute and then click on the quote thing on the far left of the toolbar in advanced and then paste it in the box. in front of the first set of brackets after "quote" type = then the name

thats how i do it, is there an easier way?

Dyers Eve

...And Justice for All (even though I haven't started yet)

I think I just found out why I, along with countless other people, like Metallica so much. Please forgive my essay style writing, my thoughts turned out to be longer than I thought.

When I was 14, I had the general stereotype that metal was satanic or morally wrong at least. All these stereotypes came about from the sense that most drug dealers/criminals listen to heavy metal. After 14 years of hating Metallica, it surprised even me how much I got into them after the first time I heard MOP. I’d never gotten into any bands so fast, and as I soon found out, I wasn’t the only one. What was it that Metallica had that no other metal band had?? IMO, I think the reason is that Metallica’s songs were missing one key element that all other metal bands (in the 80’s anyway) shared, and that was (a) lyrics about Satan/sex, and (b)their own powerful lyrics. When you think about it, none of their songs deal with such things or praise them. Metallica’s songs were mainly written about government conspiracies/war/fantastical nightmares. Each song would deliver some powerful message dealing with ethics and emotion. These weren’t just any messages though. They were based on centuries of human understanding and thinking. Lots of Metallica songs use reference to some thought or idea dug deep out of the history of mankind (Blackened, Lepper Messiah, Sanitarium, For Whom the Bell Tolls). Not many people know it, but each song, along with some f*in good music, was very smart for a bunch of drunken idiots. This quality (of excluding Satan/sex from their lyrics) made them stand out. Of course later on they would switch to a more Tolkien-oriented-fantasy-adventure (Enter Sandman) with very little meaning. Even songs with no lyrics were based on something (Call of Ktulu, To Live is To Die). Some of the songs would not only depict a certain intellectual opinion WITH reasoning behind it (I find this rare, because most bands would just say what's on their mind very blatantly (like some posters in this forum) even if it doesn’t make sense). With a bit of exaggeration on my part, some songs would seem almost revolutionary (Disposable Soldiers, MOP). That is why Metallica gained so much popularity in the 80’s, because of the lyrics. The musicianship would be an added bonus along with awesome performance, but lyrics on songs from albums Kill ‘Em All-AJFA are just amazing for a drunken kid who was deemed as a ‘bad guy’ from society. The lyrics to songs like MOP and Fade to Black aren’t gonna come every other year. James, despite his bad-*** style cover, is a very intelligent man and knows his stuff. People don’t appreciate him for his lyrics enough, and this post is just 1% of my gratitude towards him for his awesome musical career, hopefully more to come. People have lost their respect so fast for Metallica with small issues like solos or downloading, and I think that’s a shame because there is so much more to judging Metallica than what they put on the outside.

But what are your guy’s thoughts on this? I just thought of this in half an hour, this could actually turn into something worth knowing.

Being honest, what metallica songs can you guys play (james/kirks/lars/bass), versus how long you've been playing guitar? I've listed mine quite a few times now, but I want to know about other people just to relatively see what my skill level would be.

i think you should include what songs we've tried

tried --- can play
fade to black --- yes
master of puppets --- yes
nothing else matters --- yes
holier than thou --- yes
saniterium --- most of it, not the solos
wolf and man --- yes
one --- yes
sandman --- yes
AJFA --- intro
Ktulu --- everything but solos
Orion --- most
ride the lightning --- yes
seek and destroy --- just intro, haven't tried rest
unforgiven --- everything, haven't tried solo

and i've been playin for three years
and i haven't tried anything else

i agree. i find it really funny. people love metallica or hate them. but only people that seem to hate them are either the rap/hip hop lovers OR they have never heard any metallica songs

well the only thing that's keeping me from sanitarium is the length. just like RTL

sanitarium doesn't look all that hard tho, but i haven't taken any time on it. i kno the part where he plays the 12th fret for awhile, but none else...

maybe ill go learn it after im stuck studying for exams :upset:

yea im kinda sick of these people who say "whoa i know how to play one and i've only been playing for three months without lessons!!!"

anyone can, it's called tab.

the real questions are
1) can you play it right?
2) can you write something that takes knowledge of scales, keys, bends, hammer ons/pull offs, taps, etc.???
3) and are you just bullshiting about three months without lessons?

1) ya, I don't use tabs. I use GTP files so not only am I recieving the right fingerings, but I can hear how the tab sounds like and I can compare it to the song.
2) Yes I can. I'm in IB music for drumming. My 2nd instrument is guitar. They don't give me lessons on it, but they teach me information on theory and techniques so they can test the hell out of me at the end of the year. The only reason I can play "hard" songs like One is because I research up on the techniques involved (cyberfret.ca, freeguitarlessons.com i believe)
3) 3 months?? More like 9 for me.

sanitarium, one, seek and destroy, master of puppets, disposable heroes, i disapear, creeping death

1 and half years

You don't need lessons to learn these songs KILO. It takes time. Spend 4 hours of your day JUST on one of these songs, and I can guarantee you (if done properly) you will learn %80 of the song. Solo's may take a while, but learn all the rythm parts first. Once you have that out of the way, you'll have time to concentrate on the solos. I found that the spider-chord pattern for MOP was difficult, but after I spent 2 hours on it (with the help of a metronome) I learned to alternate pick it.

i have a teacher and i have been playing guitar and taking lessons for about 4 months and i think i am alright at guitar, i can play most of "one " including solos but there is two guitars so its kinda hard to say you can play it(i just play james's part and then kirk's part ) but i was womdering if thre are any metallica songs that sound pretty good to play in front of people? i was thinking seek and destroy) or maybe MoP.

this approach gives you a very restricted view of music in general, using a teacher will give you a much broader appreciation of musical styles/techniques. And that riff is meant to be down picked.

I can play:

KEA - All rhythm parts, solos - Mechanix (whole), Jump In The Fire (intro, second), No Remorse (second), Phantom Lord (whole), Metal Militia (too lazy to learn properly)

RTL - Fade To Black (whole song), FWTBT (whole song), rest of the album - no attempts

MOP - Battery (rhythm), MOP (whole song), Sanitarium (whole song except 3rd solo), rest - no attempts

AJFA - One (whole except middle harmony part and 3rd solo).

BLACK - Nothing Else Matters (whole song), Unforgiven (whole song), Sad But True and WIMR only rhythm parts.

Also: Mama Said (whole), Am I Evil (whole), Turn The Page (whole), Blitzkrieg (solo not attempted...........yet)
----------------------------

It was challenging for me to learn 'tallica solos when I just picked up guitar. But it's been almost 2 years that I play and it's got boring to learn other people's stuff. Now I enjoy writing my own solos or just improvising to 'tallica stuff.

I still want to learn these solos very good:

1. Metal Militia
2. One (3rd)
3. No Remorse (1st)
4. So What
5. Unforgiven II

Yes, the MOP spider riff is downpicked. If you alternate pick it, it will sound horrible.....well, at least it will sound wrong.

I learned to downpick that riff slowly in a few minutes but managed to play it fast after about a month.

Guys, you have to understand, it's not just about doing hard. At first I also thought that way. But then I'd just play something very good and the very next day I'd screw it up. Then I realised that it was about muscles. It takes time to develop muscles on your hands. You can learn something good but next you'll already feel tired playing that thing. Muscles and stamina are important for your picking hand. And it takes time for them to develop. The same with fretting hand - you need to develop "muscle memory" of your fingers. :thumb:
