Honestly, I like The Memory Remains, and the rest of Reload. But it definitely doesnt compare to Master of Puppets or Kill em All.
I love both Load and Reload. But Marianne's voice in that song makes me commit suicide :D

it probably is real, but they set up all their stunts and have them end up in a certain way. so it's probably staged

He said that the "Ride The Lightning" solo was the hardest IN HIS OPINION. This doesn't mean that it is the "hardest" solo. It's all subjective to opinion, and therefore pointless to argue.
i think itd be the second solo in The Four Horsemen
Dave Mustaine wrote that solo.

That's not really a hard solo. The solo in 'Mechanix' is harder than The Four Horsemen, although being very simular, which we all know why. Anyway, another vote for Ride The Lightning here, although after a lot of practice it gets a lot easier....quite a task to play though.

In the grand scheme of things Metallica solos are a walk over, seriously, 2-3 years playing and you can nail anyone of them; theyre all the same.
You need to check out the likes of Becker, Buckethead, Bumblefoot, Gilbert etc if you really want to see guitar solos.

if you've been playing 2-3 years, well, then you should be able to do any of them. but like me, i've been playing 3 years only pretty good and all i got down is Fade to Black, One, Wolf and Man, and Nothing Else Matters. (the only one i've tried otherwise is Puppets, but i've only looked at it once)

I can play all Fade to Black solo's, all Sanatarium solos, all One solos, Nothing else Matters, and Call of Ktulu (but very slopy). I've been playing for two years, but I took piano for six years before I started guitar, so I progressed faster than a lot of people. I don't learn solo's anymore, I try to find what scale it's in then improvise, much more fun. Metallia solo's are always in penetatonic scales, so I don't even need to do figure out the scale.
Freezing Moon
12-27-2004, 01:54 PM
I can do almost all of the solos on Kill 'em All because they're pretty much all the same. Like EVH said, all pentatonic. The solos on the other albums are more challenging, but once you get one you can get most of them. I have to give some more credit to Kirk for the "Creeping Death" solo though. I had a bit more trouble with that one.

Exactly ! The 4 horsemen is not hard at all. I learned it very quickly. The one on Mechanix is harder and more fun to play. I recently started to learn it. But I got a few problems in that solo. Too much of hammer-ons and my guitar doesn't have 24 frets so I have to play that solo in a bit different way.
I never tried to play RTL but I think it's not so hard as it seems.
About which one is the hardest, I think someone from 'tallica once said that the hardest solo is Creeping Death and then Blackened. I'm not sure though :thumb:

I can bearly play the first fade to black solo, first sanitarium solo, the intro to 2nd MOP solo (slowly and sloppy), and the sandman solo sloppy. I've been playing for 3 years. I guess it's the fact that I don't practice enough.
I find the Leper Messiah solo is tough, mainly the intro. It's like a sweep, and doing the sweep up the fret board it tough for my small hand and fingers.
btoto
12-27-2004, 06:02 PM
^it's not because you don't practice enough. It's because you probably never try hard to master anything. All Sanitarium solos are easy, last Fade To Black is also easy. You just have to say to yourself: "I won't leave this guitar until I master it" That's all ! You spend 4-5 hours to learn the basis of a certain solo. The rest (speed, accuracy) will come in a few days. You can't learn anything perfect in one day.

The black album is overrated kirk used waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much wah on all those songs and those songs are so blan compared to their old ones. They know need to get a new lead guitarist or at least convince kirk to solo and use good tone.

the first fade to black intro is fairly easy, really. just keep playing it nonstop. same with all solos/songs. just commit yourself to learning it and you'll find it easier. fade to black, the whole song, took me awhile to learn but it's all i played for a few weeks

Selling out generally means comprimising the quality of the music for the money. An example of this could be making shorter songs so they could go on the radio.
I'm not saying they sold out because they were making worse music.
Dictionary.com definition of "sell out" -
"To give up or surrender in exchange for a price or reward."
They gave up the style and/or quality of music for more money.
How the **** does making worse music imply "selling out"?? It's very possible to make music that people don't like as much without doing it for money.

Your band takes the ****, you probably can't even read music! or even play a scale or arpeggio! YOU SUCK, and Metallica Rules!!
metallica is not very good live, thier guitars are sloppy, but lars is better live.dont get me wrong, thier my favorite band, but thier sloppy live.
wow it's hard to believe you ever really saw them live.
lars is a lot worse live, hetfield/hammett kick so much *** live, and rob is the awesomest bassist (not necessarily in skill).

-and whoever said fuel was their best song? i wanna hear your riff that is better than puppets or any other metallica song.
-you really don't like metallica. you say they suck live when they really are really awesome live. dude live is always sloppier but always more fun.
-do you even play anything? or are you like a singer? you could produce a better song than fuel (haha thats funny.) that doesn't mean you can play guitar worth ****

Yes, please use the search.
As I explained before, St. Anger was still a good cd, just not compared to their other stuff. It was probably a great nu-metal cd. Some people like it better than their old stuff. How can it really be a "letdown" when really, to an fan of "old Metallica", every album had been a letdown since the black album? To some even the black album was a letdown. It all has to do with personal taste.

I just got Cliff 'Em All. It's as good as I was expecting, but I have one question.
In '83, when they're playing Whiplash with Mustaine, what exactly is Dave doing? It doesn't seem like he's playing sometimes, he looks really weird slouched over, and he solos witha capo. At least I think he does, that's how it looked like to me.
Anyways I concluded that Dave was being the drunkard ***-hole, in which I'm not surprised that he got kicked out. I would despise a band member of mine that wouldn't play strong throughout a concert and was just a complete ***.
I'm glad he had to take responsibility into his own hands to create Megadeth.
Also if Dave was to collaborate with Metallica, it would have to be Dave, James, Menza, and Robert T. I mean Kirk can just go surfing, and Lars can argue over lost money from Napster, and the cheapshot they pulled on Dave in their boring movie.
Although Cliff 'Em All is everything I'd like to see for Metallica, Megadeth is just that much better. Guitar work for Rust In Peace > any Metallica album.
R.I.P Cliff (the ultimate metal bassist), Metallica would of stayed true if you never passed away.

My comments on the above parts of what you said...
1. They were all drunkards back then, Dave was just more so, and didn't get along. Yes, he did suck on that solo though, I know exactly what one you're talking about. Isn't it just as lame when the crowd takes Kirk's guitar though?
2. I'm also glad he made Megadeth because they're so ****ing great.
3. Metallica wouldn't have stayed true anyway. They reached a peak, they had to go downhill.

That's why I don't bother with the whole MTV thing.
I don't understand why somebody would want to cover a Metallica song if they didn't sound remotely like Metallica. How could they not know that it won't be a popular cover and they'll butcher it?
Whenever I hear the words "Metallica" and "cover" together I run. Far, far away. Especially in the same sentence/paragraph as "MTV".

I'm not quite sure but it was between Dave and Kerry, not whole Slayer. I think it all began after Dave's interview about early days of Megadeth (Kerry played a few gigs with them when they had no second lead guitar). And I think Dave said that Kerry was a big poseur on stage and he couldn't even play guitar. All he did was to mess with his whammy. Dave also said he taught Kerry lots of things on guitar.
So after that Kerry didn't know how b*tch about Dave (he's a good guitar player indeed), so in his interviews he started to talk that Dave's the most horrible vocalist in Heavy Metal. And he said: "Whoever told that guy that he can sing must be shot"

Today (December 31, 2004), I have gotten cunning stunts and I loved it. Its set list was very good and i liked the way had little songs in between. I likes it when James said he was going to play a song they have not released yet. He didn't know the name of the song too! (Just to let you know, this happened on May 9-10, 1997. Reload hasn't come out for a few months later: November 1997) He ended up playing "Fuel" but it was so different. The lyrics in the verse were different but the chorus stayed the same. I was having all fun and all until IT happened.
At the very end of "Enter Sandman", a crew member saw something and decided to climb the poles. At the big bang of the song, the man tripped and was flying through the air and was caught not only by the wire, but by camera too. James was all like "What the ****!?
All sorts of explosions had occured and sparke hit James Hetfield in the face. (He fell down whining about too!) James stopped playing and so did Jason. Lars continued never-the-less explosions occured and sparks jutted out so you can tell that he was hitting the wrong beats. As for Kirk, he was just playing a single note with lots of feedback on it. The guy who was swinging back and forth was almost going to hit Kirk when the wire got loose and he fell down.
Now the most god-awful thing had happened, one of the explosion bang things that were cued up to happen on "Enter Sandman" blew up as usual had blown up like usual, but there was a flaw! A man was stending right on top of the flame! He was totally on fire, all of his body and all, head to toe! He was running... no zooming out of the ramp and to the stage until he fell and three of four men came with fire extinguishers and put the fire out.
Then to top it all off, the poll like things that holds everything up collapses and fall ring down to the band but they get away. Every thing was ruiened. the man on fire was shaking once the fire was put out. Then many firemen and many paramedics come to the scene and put out the fire while the paramedics take the guy hanging from the wire (who now is bleeding buckets full of blood) and gave him many pieces of cloth and a neck brace like thing to keep his neck still. I almost broke up a tear seeing this!
Once the firemen left, every thing was disfunctional. The band was very confused and meny crew membres were roaming across the stage. As things were cooling down, the band noticed many things:
1.) The stage was all **** up.
2.) Their amps were busted.
3.) Not only the lighting for the song was down, but the main lighting was broken too so every one was in total darkness.
Their problems were all solved. The stage got cleaned up, their pratice amps were used instead of thair 'official' amps, and ther found emergency light bulbs hanging. Since they had like a twenty-minuete delay. They calmed themselves down by playing "Cure" from "Load"
I was all sad for awile until I got furious when iI found out they were faking it! I watched the bonus features andthey said how they got this trick done. I turned out that the guy who was on fire was wearing fire proof jeans, 5 layer fireproof suit, and rubber. The guy who was hanging was faking it and was using fake blood. And the collapsing thing was wires and electronics.
I also found out that the firemen and such were fake. I was so mad when I found out this stuff.
Well, more happened but I tell later. Its not too important now. Do you know why it's now important now? CAUSE IT'S NEW YEARS DAY!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I think if one where to be the new bassist of Metallica, I'd rather ask Kirk the questions about the bass. James seems like he would be an *** about it. kirk seems like he would be nicer. But I dunno, thats just my guess.

yeah. James seems kinda like an obnoxis ***. Lars IS just a complete asshole. Kirk seems kinda nice. I bet Cliff, Jason Newstead, and Rob are the nicest Metallica members.

I used to really like it, but then the production really started to get on my nerves and I got bored of it, the songs are really too long and repetitive - though technically very impressive.
Really the only songs I actually like on it are One, TLITD and Dyers Eve.
Listening to it now as it happens...
btoto
01-02-2005, 07:28 AM
^I agree with you Burdcheese. I get lots of earbleeding from Justice albums' guitars and Black albums' drums.
Plus, I don't like this album because it's like they wanted to show how fast they can play. They didn't care about the songs IMO, they cared about their length and speed.
Technically yes, they are impressive. But only drums I'd say. Rhythm guitars are no better than in first 3 albums and leads are even worse. Songs with nice solos were only Blackened, Eye Of Beholder and One. The rest was just Kirk messing with his wah. Second solo in To Live Is To Die was also good but it was James' work as far as I know.
And bass parts............wait, I can't hear bass :thumb:
Burdcheese
01-02-2005, 07:33 AM
I'm afraid I'm not one who notices bass - I tend not to hear it at all and when I do I think its a guitar :(
But as a wiser man that me once said - you'd miss it if it were removed.
But if there basically isn't any in the first place (because of the mix on AJFA) then that doesn't really apply
btoto

What? There was bass on AJFA? could've fooled me...
The list:
1: Blackened
2: One
3: Dyer's Eve
4: Eye of the Beholder
5: Harvester of Sorrow
6: ...And Justice For All
7: To Live Is To Die
8: Shortest Straw
9: Frayed Ends of Sanity
That list was just off the top of my head, it'd probably be different if you asked me again...
AJFA was my favourite Metallica album, but now I'm starting to grow a little tired of it.
