It's Kirk Hammetts birthday.

Guess wat i heard on some kerry king vs. Kirk hammet forum? Some retard thinks that James writes kirks solos and lets him take credit for them  There is no way thats true. Kirk in my opinion is a very talented soloist.undefined

\m/Pete\m/
11-18-2004, 04:46 PM
^^^ James does write a good portion of the solo's

even still, Kirk's as well as Jame's solos are much better than King's...most of his sounds like random notes and a lot of whammy

Riva
11-18-2004, 05:38 PM
That's just what King's solos are. Hanneman is the best guitarist in that group.

If i offend some people sorry. But i cant stand metalica. The music is bad and jame's voice bothers the hell out of me. Maybe its because i dont like metal and listen to good music. this is just my opinion.

Saying you don't like Metallica because you listen to good music isn't an opinion. It's an insult, now leave.

I haven't payed much attention to this thread. I just skipped to last page so I dunno if this was mentioned, but is it just my area, or do all areas have Mandatory Metallica? It's a thing my local radio station does every night at 10pm. They take requests for metallica and play it for a good 30 minutes. It's good stuff.

One of my stations in Toronto used to do it, but I don't think it was too popular so they stopped.

Quite a few of Iron Maiden's albums are best of or live, mate. Don't be an idiot all your life.

And good songs wise, hmmm, don't make me choose between Maiden and Metallica. :p

a few posts ago there was talk about the solos of kirk and james. they both write solos. BOTH. in most of their songs, they both have solos, such as one, puppets, nothing else matters, and many more. i don't get why james would write a solo and let kirk have it and why kirk would write a solo and let james have it. they are both amazing guitarists

The only solo i have ever heard by james was the one that comes right after the cool little bridge riff from mop. Kirk does all the really wicked ones. (main mop one, one solo, wherever i may roam... i could go on for hours.) Who would u guys way is the better guitarist: Dave or kirk?

they dont where i live, but its played all the time. like i can turn on a station and your most likely to hear some metallica within like 5 mins if it isnt already on. whenever they're within like a hundred miles on tour or something they play them like two days nonstop

Wow 362 pages about 'tallica :-)
I love One and Fade to Black and The Call of Ktulu...
But I just can't get into Master of Puppets... its really just thrashy and some bits sound out of time and the solo was alright and the rest is repetitive vocals and chords and it is soooo looonggggg Zzzzzzzz..., and I can't understand why it is such a popular Metallica song. Can any1 explain why it is?

If you dont like 10+ minute metal anthems (slightly exadurated), your not gonna like a lot of the best songs/bands i.e. Metallica

However I don't see how people speak about Trapped Under Ice like they do Escape, they're miles apart.

where did you hear this from, that is one of the most untrue statements ive ever herd in my life. that song would be almost imposible to downpick

-----2-----3----4----3----22----------------------------

nope cant see even zakk wylde playing that downpicked

there is no way thats impossible man. im 14 and have only been playing for a year and i can play it that way with down picking only. hear is my preffered way of playing it though. ( it sounds just the same)

That riff is so easy that I can do it in my sleep!
Okay, maybe I cant do it in my sleep, but its easy to do while my eyes are closed. Really!

similar to fight fire with fire, the only good thing with "The Outlaw Torn" is the chorus. who here actually likes the whole song?

The solo is good to it too and the outro. The verse is cool but not very exciting. The song overall is great, I like it.

I play MOP down-picked most of the time. Thats kinda how i built my wrist up for tremelo picking.

13 years old huh? Its funny how on these forums you cant trust anyone.

"Im 14 years old and i can play Midnight at 195bpm". Ok maybe not that extreme and not saying that you cant play MoP guitarcreep13 cuz it isnt that hard, but i just seem to be seeing all the "kids" around here making statements like that

According to this Metallica book I bought,
Tremolo picking is "when you pick anote or many amounts of notes as rapidly
and continously as possible."

me and some friends, have got a cover band, we play mostly metallica, some black label society, and some others, and one of the songs we do best is Master of Puppets, we've been playing for about 3 and a half years now...i'm not gonna say it's and easy song, i mean, to get it just right, it's tough, i know it doesn't take much to learn it, you may know "how to play it" but it's very difficult to get it perfect, i mean that main riff is downpicked completely, and takes lots of practice to have the guitars and bass keep it in perfect harmony...but we've practiced our butts off, and now we got it down, solo, all of it...

MASTER OF PUPPETS KICKS A$$!!!!

does anyone else find fight fire with fire, battery, and damage inc kind of annoying?

i love fight fire...... everytime someone talks about the "vintage" metallica, i usually think back to fight fire being played live. it had an amazing solo, an awsome and FAST riff with LOTSA head banging, it had cliff, they were young and not stupid like they are now. what doesn't it have?? hell to top it off, i love the intro. It sounds so .......... starry and sparkly (haha, no other description than that does justice to it for me lol). is it under-rated, HELL YES. lots of people first started liking metallica because of RTL and songs like that.

Give them a cigar... you are quite right. I'm pretty good with tremelo picking, as i started learning black metal songs from the moment i picked up a guitar 3 years ago.

and yes, that is the correct tab symbol for tremelo picking.

just alternate picking the strings at a million miles an hour.

Battery or Fight Fire With Fire both rock, more so Fight Fire With Fire, but they are both awesome for the pure speed. Fight With With Fire is such a fast song (There is probably faster thrash songs?) the second it's put on, everyone I know just gets into it, the intro is awesome, it's like preperation for brutal...

The only solo i have ever heard by james was the one that comes right after the cool little bridge riff from mop. Kirk does all the really wicked ones. (main mop one, one solo, wherever i may roam... i could go on for hours.) Who would u guys way is the better guitarist: Dave or kirk?

i like kirk's style more. dave does more for megadeth than kirk does for metallica but i like the solos kirk writes better. one, fade to black, mop, wherever i may roam, wolf and man, unforgiven, trapped under ice, for whom the bell tolls, AJFA, etc etc. he has some crazy kick *** solos

"kirk himself" cant properly do it because hes not that good :naughty: , he's good, but there are thousands of betta players than him.

also, what type of an idiot would write/record a solo that they "can't proplerly" play??

sorri to burst your moron bubble but i was using it in the context that his live performance of it doesn't sound anything like it. and i know people play guitar faster than kirk (michael angelo, petrucci) im just saying the way he added the wah wah makes it really impossible.

Apparently the fastest Metallica solo is Damage Inc. Someone posted here before and the beginning of the solo is like the 3rd fastest piece of soloing. I know Steve Vai was number 1, forgotten number 2.

Its easier playing that downpicked... but that is the only purely downpicked part of the song apart from:

-----8--8--8--8--8~
----7--7--7--7--7--
---0--0--0--0--0---

Im a bassist and i can play that on guitar... and i dont even bass with a pick...

^ that spider riff from MOP is very easy. People have problems with it because everyone wants to play it fast. I did it too. But nothing came out. You have to start playing it slowly. I bet in 1 week you'll be playing it like Jaymz :)

Actually whole MOP (the song) is very easy. even solo. the only thing about it that causes me trouble is keeping it in time and exact rhythm. Usually when I play it till end I increase or reduce speed several times. I can't control it. All the rest is easy.

The key to master 'tallica's songs is to play them along your CD player. Just put on your earphones and turn the volume a little down to hear both the song and your guitar. That's all !

i think we have to give metallica a break
people say i love metallica and crap but they hate ST.anger
you know musicions cant live on doing shows all the time
dont u think that they will get tired of playing shows
they have to depend on thier album sales and stuff
i personaly liked st. anger beacuse it was diffrent
a big change for metallica

watch them play it live = all downpicking

when i play it = all downpicking

I used to play it with alternate picking all the time, when I started out, then I realized it sounded shitty so I just switched to downpicking.

sorri to burst your moron bubble but i was using it in the context that his live performance of it doesn't sound anything like it. and i know people play guitar faster than kirk (michael angelo, petrucci) im just saying the way he added the wah wah makes it really impossible.

Just because he doesnt play they "album way" live doesnt mean he cant do it. Usually live he play a lot of his different some of them are shorter and some of them have added peices to them. Its probably a way of keeping songs interesting since they play them all the time.

ya, but changing the beginning is like changing the tapping part from the solo of "one", or changing the beginnig of the 2nd solo in MOP. its just sacreligious, you just can't do that. they're like the main core of the solo, and it sets the mood and tempo. you CANNOT slow it down or change it dammit. but its ok, you might be right (i can only pray). each of kirks famous/good solo's have a specific "wow" factor, and he usually never changes it in live performances. Fade to black had its, MOP, One, Entersandman, etc. Its never changed, and theres a reason, it sounds good. But like i said, i can only hope your right.

Well, it works both ways. If you can move your wrist fast enough, you can certainly downpick it. I actually pick upwards, and I have had no problems with it. Alternate picking would get confusing though.

I have a serious question I have to ask you guys (or ladies),

Of course, the cd Master of Puppets is better than the cd Garage, Inc.,
but my mother said she was going to get Metallica Steet Music. The choice is either Master of Puppets or Garage, Inc.
Here's the list:

Master of Puppets
songs
1 is good
2 is awsome
3 is good
4 is good
5 is good
dislike 6
 I hate Orion!
8 is alright

If I'm getting only 5 songs out of MoP, then my mom brings a point. I dont like Garage Incorperated compared to Master of Puppets, but I should get Garage Inc. cause there are 27 songs and over 300 pages of sheet music. She says "It builds strength to pratice 27 songs". This is why I came to you.

What should I get?
Master of Puppets Is better but only 5 songs of enjoyment ans is only 68 pages. Or Garage inc., not as good, but has 27 songs to pratice.(Builds fingerwork stamnia) and some songs are fun on it too.
I need an answer about within 1 and 1/2 hours cause that's when we leave to get the books.
Also, please dont be biased. Try and think BOTH sides of the debate.

They played Orion at Cliff's funeral because it was written intirely by him, it was a show of honour to him. They just put it on a cd player in the background, where they all picked up his ashes, said something of memory to him, and put them onto his grave.

Just wondered what you guys think of this song... tis amazing eh?

Oh yes! To Live Is To Die is AND always will be one of my favourite pieces of music ever! The piece is just AMAZING! Its unbelievable how a song can get the message to you without lyrics. (besides the ones that Cliff wrote but they do not have very much to do with the song) The song is just so beautiful and sad that I can't believe how anyone would not like this.

Oh yea, what do the lyrics exactly mean? You know...

"When a man lies...
He murders a part of the world
These are the pale deaths which men miscall their lives
All this I cannot bear to witness any longer
Cannot the kingdom of salvation
Take me Home..."

I know them on memorey and I have wondered what they mean so many times! If someone can explain them to me then please do so.

----------

Hey people, what songs from KEA can you play really good???

I play all of the rhythm parts very good and a bit faster to make it better.
But from solos I can play whole The 4 Horsemen, second in Phantom Lord and second in No Remorse.

I tried Seek'n'Destroy and Metal Militia but they have some confusing parts with pull-offs ad hammer on's. Now I want to play first in Jump In The Fire. :)

You know what I just realized?
I pratically pissed everyone off when I said I hate Orion.
Heres a list of Metallica songs I hate... or dislike.
anyone who doesn't agree, speak now or forever hold your peace.
TOO LATE!!!

I  HATE  list
(Anesthesia)-Pulling Teeth
Orion...as you all know
Invisible Kid

I dislike list (will be long) in order of realise

Hit the lights
motorbreath
whiplash
metal militia
fight fire with fire
escape
creeping death
The Call of Ktulu
leper messiah
through the never
the house jack built
poor twisted me
attitude
free speech for the dumb
overkill
and everything on St. Anger but: St.anger, some kind of mon., invisible kid, and the unnamed feeling
If you looked carefully, nothing on and justice for all is here, cause i havent fully listened to it yet and rating would be unfair. :thumb:

you hate anesthesia??? ight fire with fire??? creeping death?? CALL OF KTULU?? dude, you hate pretty much all of their songs that weren't "popular (by that i mean in a sense that it was "mainstream")." these are metallica classics, when they were young and GOOD and seriulsy knew how to rock. those are the songs when they were more metal and less ROCK. but still, anesthesia is like cliff's tribute to himself man, that song is awsome. I can listen to it for hours on end.

I would like to talk metallica, but i'll say this once and only once!

In order to swear, write your desired word (Ex. Bitch)
but only write the first few letters
only write "Fuc" then in white lettering, write the missing "k"
The only problem is your background setup color.
Bright Blue
Blue Green
Teal
Gray
are all fine.
but if set on white, it wont show the "k" and blend in with the white background for the other colors had only white lettering however the white background has black lettering, so you cannot swear.
besides the default color is Blue Green so just stick with the white lettering.

See it for yourself. Change your screen to white and you cant really see the k

****

see what I mean?
we shouldn't do this anyway. swearing is unhealthy. but hey, you at least got past the swear filter right? :naughty:

Anyway!!!! Lets TALK METALLICA!

dude, don't worry im not judging you on your "musical taste or preference." i'm just implying that you should take a second listen to them and really understand and listen for the metal/rock brilliance behind them. these songs are one of the many that kickstarted metal, and molded the meaning and exptency of the word "metal" as we know it.

who here knows about the new album metallica is planning to record in Feb. or Mar. 2005? i just found out about it yesterday so i dont know if its old.
if u dont believe what i said up there or just need to confirm what u read is true then do this:1-google the word metallica,2-go to the site labeled Enyclopedia Metallica,3-there should be an article on the home page about the new album.

encyclopedia metallica is a better ****ing site than metallica.com. it doesnt even mention anything about the new album.

Huber

Some of those misheard lyrics are just incredibly stupid...

Song: Fuel
Misheard Lyric: Gimme Fuel, gimme fire, gimme donuts on the fire.
Real Lyric: Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire

Donuts on the fire? That's not even how you cook donuts!

Song: Fuel
Misheard Lyric: F*ck a man white knuckles tight
Real Lyric: F*ck 'em man white knuckles tight

Last I checked, all the members of Metallica were straight.

Song: I Disappear
Misheard Lyric: I'm pain, I'm hope, I'm supper
Real Lyric: I'm pain, I'm hope, I'm suffer

Randomly throwing in a synonym for dinner in a serious line like that should have imediately made anyone jump on the internet and look up the lyrics.

Song: One
Misheard Lyric: Tied to machines that make me pee
Real Lyric: Tied to machines that make me be

Unless Metallica had some kind of urinary problems, I don't see where anyone could see that matching the subject of a song like "One"

Song: Dyers Eve
Misheard Lyric: Up Jack's Butt I feel for you
Real Lyric: Undying spite I feel for you

METALLICA IS NOT GAY FOR CHRIST SAKES!

Song: Master of Puppets
Misheard Lyric: Twisting your mind smash into trees
Real Lyric: Twisting your mind smashing your dreams

I don't have much to say about this. I just thought about how funny it would be to hear the song actually sung like that.

Song: The Unforgiven
Misheard Lyric: New blood joins this earth, and quickly he's a dude
Real Lyric: New blood joins this earth, and quickly he's subdued

Oh, duh, because transexuals are unforgiven. I get it now.

-------

That was a good read. Pretty funny stuff

I think they're even.

The first solo in Fade To Black owns the first Sanitarium solo... but the second solo in Sanitarium owns the second in Fade To Black... THEN the third solo in Fade To Black is WAY better than the third solo in Sanitarium. They both have awesome breakdowns where it gets heavy, but Fade To Black's breakdown is better.

So actually, I guess Fade To Black is better.

Fade to Black:
would you consider that their best?

metal_milita
11-30-2004, 07:55 PM
thats a hard call man, i don't think no one could say whats metallica's best song. Fade to Black is way up there though, i don't think theres any other song in which they put so much emotion into, even when playingl live. It has awsome solo's and really catchy riffs and melodies, so i would say its close to being best. However, most songs of theirs before Load are contenders for that, and i could say equally as much for all of them also.

metal_milita
11-30-2004, 07:57 PM
however, credits to fade to black for being one of the only songs in the world that was effectively made so sad and depressing that people committed suicide over it because they related to it so much. big up on that.

I wasn't sure about this, have people committed suicide after listenning to Fade To Black, that we know of?
A couple of years ago I was going through some pretty rough stages myself, and started taking the lyrics of Fade To Black a little seriously, and started thinking how they apply to my own life (Which is the reason, I think, I like Fade To Black so much).
Luckily I'm too weak to actually do it, but I'm sure there are people who could, I'm just wondering if there are people who have?

Comparing solos is not a reasonable way to compare a song. You've got to take into consideration the mood the song sets.
Which is why Fade to Black is teh PWNage.

Chu
12-01-2004, 06:39 AM
See, it really depends again, on what you listen to when you listen to Fade To Black.
If you listen to the song, and focus n the lyrics, you get a totally different result, then if you were to listen to the music (However, the song could not work, unless these two are used together, it's so well crafted).

What I think they should have done here, was to write Sanitarium first (on Ride The Lightning) and have Fade To Black (on Master of Puppets), Sanitarium will finish with that fade effect Fade To Black uses (But in reverse, so it sort of fades out, whereas Fade To Black fades in, get me?). This would have led the song about mental illness to a song about suicide (ala progression!), basically saying mental illness leads to suicide, which, while not always being the case, is sometimes true. Now, only tr00 Metalli-Fans would pick this up, and probably neither songs would have been as good if this was the case, but hey, I was thinking... :P

I love both these songs, but Fade To Black is better without a doubt.

What would be interesting to see how people think: Sanitarium vs. One.

In my opinion Sanitarium ****s all over One. Both in musical(ness? :P) and lyrical content.
