A box set of Metallica albums on VINYL?
Are you on drugs?
How many Metallica fans want/care/have the money for records?
Don't worry, you'll get it. They'll probably have a surplus.

I don't see how you could order online without it.
Maybe a money order, but I don't see how that would work for a pre-order.
Do you actually like vinyls, or are you just getting this for the sheer purpose of having them?

because it's cool. This individually numbered, limited-edition LP box contains Metallica's first four albums -- Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, and ...And Justice For All -- as well as the out-of-print Garage Days Revisited EP and the previously import-only Creeping Death picture disc.
the first 4 albums sell alone for $60 in the stores, after tax, more than $65, this is a great buy, only 5000 for america are made. i could easily turn around and put this on ebay, make a profit real quick. i also find vinyls attractive. not like i want to hump it. it just reminds me of the olden days that i never experienced. seperate pieces of memorabilia sell more than a hundred dollars. i conclude this is a great investment.

Okay, I don't know if this has been done before, but I would like to know what everyone thought was "Metallica's Song". Just one song that you think represents their musical talent, and lyrics and everything in between. I personally think that their song is For Whom the Bell Tolls when they did it on S&M. BEcause I have the dvd and when you watch it, that seems to be the song where everything just flows perfectly.

IMO its probably either to live is to die or call of ktulu. Both these songs show how well metallica can fuse together and produce quality songs which still have emotion despite a lack of lyrics. Although the lyrics in to live is to die fit perfectly with the song. Cliff RIP. In terms of lyrical ability, any songs from RTL,MOP Or AJFA all deal with relatively weighty topics (suicide, war etc)
A song like Fade To Black or Sanitarium for lyrical and musical content, Just the way they can change the whole mood of the song, while keeping the lyrics perfect to it and most of all meaningfull.
(I don't count One in this though, purely because it's an obvious rip at the fame Fade To Black brought them).
As far as technical side of things go, well what more could you say, Metallica hasn't really gained any new skills over the years.
They just kinda wrote the same style music (Hell even Kirk explored more on the earlier albums with his solos, on Load and ReLoad his solos had became almost too predictable and similar to the solo he had played on the previous song), nothing new, and when there was, well it wasn't great - With a few, and I mean a few exceptions.
So in conclusion, something from Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, or ...And Justice For All (Which, weirdly enough, they did try a new style of music with, wonder why they didn't keep it heavy and fast...) - Personally I believe one of their instrumentals is their best music to date. I love the Call of The Ktulu, and To Live is To Die holds a special place on my stereo's playlist, but their greatest achievement, in my opinion, was Orion.
I too, just as Cliff Burton received, wish for that song to be played at my funeral.

that'd be a pretty interesting thread by itself. let's see, "metallica's song" well i would have to say enter sandman only because it's there biggest hit. but otherwise i would have to say Fade to Black or Master of Puppets

Everyone who says that Metallica dies with St Anger should just shut up. They've been around for over 20 years, and in that time they've put out tons of awesome songs and have millions and millions of fans worldwide. St Anger won't take what they did or what they accomplished away. They're still the same people they were in Kill 'em All, Ride The Lightning, and Master of Puppets, just they're style changed. So if you all out there want to listen to something that stays the same, go listen to punk rock.

Why do people consider Metallica's first album punk? Or, better yet, why is thrash considered to be a close cousin of punk? I don't see any comparison.

With 343 pages, I'm sure every opinion has been tossed around if ever there were any. I almost feel cliche saying "old Metallica" was better or that they sold out. But then again, cliches are born of some truth. Favourite album would have to be Master of Puppets, followed closely by Ride the lightning and Kill em' All. And Justice for All, in my opinion was there last good album. Not that the Black Album didn't have its finer points, and moments of discernable connection with the Metallica of old.....but it was the downward turning point in my estimation, and lacked the edge. I am a Metallica fan for life just on the basis of what they once were, no amount of wrongly evolved future albums will ever change that.

Exactly. I hear people who call them country rock because they have heard "Mama Said" and "Low Man's Lyric" played on the radio. Even if they do have some country sounding songs on their latest albums, songs like "The Unforgiven II", "Outlaw Torn" and "Until It Sleeps" prove that they are still a metal band, despite the fact they are no longer Thrash.

I find most of the people who say "OMG Metallica aren't metal!" are metal elitist idiots who simply say that because they feel like Metallica is tainting their precious genre just because they've been progressively getting worse as a band. I hope they get back on track and not release an album under complete pressure... I think Rob will help out in the creative process, they obviously know to get back into solos after the lashing they got from st. anger, and with solos come naturally better music... When I think Metal, I think aggressive lyrics with brutally mixed instruments, and that's not really what Metallica-of-late has been........
im not meaning 2 start an argument but im guessin u aint listened 2 the st anger album properly yet bcoz thats way agressive and the instruments do sound very brutal...but i still refer their old stuff...that was fukin brilliant!!! :thumb:
a couple of questions for you guys if you dont mind.
why dont they play Turn The Page live?
i think its a really good song..
and whats going on with lars?
i have a clip where metallica plays "Enter Sandman" with joey from slipknot as the drummer... what happend to lars?

I don't like those CDs. It has been discussed 100 times. You'll get a lot of "harcore" Metallica fans saying they sold out big time then and that it's a disgrace to music.

God,
I just wish they'd go back to their roots. It's funny... I got a article in GW prior to the release of St. Anger. And Hammett said something to the effect of... their going to be composing music like they did in their early days. I've yet to hear the resemblance. Hammett was good at blazing solos backed by James' solid riffs. WTF happened? We all fell in love with "Metallica." Why alter the style and sound of the music that started a metal militia!!! Yea yea, times change, fads change... blah blah! I listen to more old school metal than all this new **** combined, regardless of what they bring to the table. Old metallica will still be kickass 20 years from now. They set the bar!!

metallica are metallica you could tell what album a met song is just by listening to the stylr, lyrics and james voice.
there is supposed to be a new album coming out with no leaf clover any one who has heard or seen s&m will no what its about
so the "new" metallica will soon be the "old" metallica again

Your behind on news my friend... They have been playing turn the page here and there on the current leg of the Madly In Anger With the World tour, and Lars was temporarily sick, so Joey, Slayer's drummer, and Metallica's drum tech filled in for a night.

Anything pre black album is good. The black album isn't the best, and it bears no resemblence to the albums before it, so it sounds like a new band. From each album..Whiplash, RTL, Orion, Harvester of sorrow/To live is to die.
oh.. well that explains it.
thanks.
i also heard metallica's working on a new album, is that true?
possibly, metallica is unexpectable, so it could be true. hopefully its better than ST anger.

I don't know, I love the solos in Master of Puppets more... (And didn't some songs have sweep picking on And Justice For All?)
You're right, I probably LOVE the solos more on MOP but I think the guy asked which CD Kirk excelled on.
Oh, I'm not too sure about on AJFA, the only songs I listen to off that are Blackened, And Justice, Eye Of The Beholder, One, Shortest Straw, To Live Is To Die and Dyer's Eve. Out of those songs the only one that has sweep-picking is Shortest Straw and it only has it once . But, I must agree the creativity of the solos on AJFA matches the technique and ability of the solos on RTL. So they're about the same.
EDIT: To the person that was talking about the lyrics, listen to the Creeping Death lyrics whilst listening to the song. They're written about all that **** in the bible where they put the blood on the dorrs and the angel of death wouldn't kill the people in those houses etc, pure GENIUS. Also, the Disposable Hereos lyrics are mint as are the Ride The Lightning lyrics and For Whom The Bell Tolls.

totally new to these forums, but been coming to mx for years...
started guitar about 3 years ago thanks to Metallica. 2nd Album I _ever_ bought was Live ****: Binge and Purge (got it when i was like 8 coz it had the word '****' in it :O)
1st Album i ever bought was some Testament album when i was 6 coz it had a dude having his face being ripped open by hooks, that I thought was kinda cool...
Neway... recently saw Metallica for the 1st time (11 years to see them is a long time) at the Download Festival and i practicly fainted when they came on stage and i was in awe the 1st 3 songs (Blackened, Feul and Ride the Lightning)... ****ing awsome!!!
Just thought id join these forums coz of this threat and add my contribution...
Id say one of my favourite songs (u guys might think its crap) is No Leaf Clover
I love everything else Metallica does like One, Unforgiven, Blackened, Seek and Destroy (another 1 of my faves.)

Fade to Black
Nothing Else Matters

The Unforgiven
Enter Sandman
St. Anger
Leper Messiah
Jump In The Fire

The God That Failed
Kirk played 2 solos, James played 1, and Rob played 1.

Kirk Is GOD, the only other guitarists that come close was Randy Rhoades, Zakk Wylde maybe Eddie Van Halen and Yngwie Malmsteen considering most of those are dead (RIP) Kirk is Most Likely the Best Guitarist on the Planet Tbqh.........
They're all alive except for Rhoads.
And there are tons of better players. You even neglected to mention Satch, who TAUGHT Hammett.

sweep picking is a continuous strum down the strings with the right hand, while your fret hand hits a different not with every string your picking.
Now for my post...I bought St. Anger when it first came out, and sence have lost the little tiny piece of paper needed for the metallica vault website...Is it possible to use someone elses cd key? and if it is, could i use somebodys? I hate to ask, and yeah, its kind of lame, but i was wandering...The vualt looks like its pretty **** cool, and we all know St. Anger isnt worth re-buying... Well. email me at blankaflip@yahoo.com if you wanna get with me..thanks guys, rock on.

What is sweep-picking/sweeping ?
Anyway, my favourite solos are Blackened, Dyer's Eve, Hit The Lights and Creeping Death. Then again, of all Metallica's solos are good.
On a side-note, I'm totally surprised that 'Tallica have been performing 'The God That Failed' recently. Love that song but wow, didn't think they'd play that.
yea i just went to the concert and the first thing they said after playin that was "holy $hit we haven't played that in ten phuckin years!"

same with enter sandman. way too overrated. its got catchy riffs but its one of there songs that i will actually get sick of after awhile, unlike all of there other ones.
fade to black is underrated. it surprises me that its not as popular as puppets, sandman, one, etc. the solo is absolutely amazing and theres so much soul into the beginning.

Damage inc or To live is to die what do you think?
wow, thats so tough. to live is to die has so many amazign aspects in musicianship obviously with the starting power thats trown around and then turns into solos and then the quite part goes to marmonizing guitars. amazing song. damage is also a rad song. extremely fast and powerful saying the least. but for now i'll take to live is to die.

This has little to do with metallica but kerry mentions them so disscuss.
SLAYER guitarist Kerry King recently spoke to the Belgian webzine ConcreteWeb.be about the group's upcoming studio album and the "Still Reigning" DVD, among other topics. Several excerpts from the interview follow:
ConcreteWeb.be: Again everyone awaits the new full-length album and wonders whether it will be one of complete daring stop-start rhythms, intricate song construction, and — most of all — pure SLAYER-ish powersurge?
Kerry King: "Probably! We have ten to twelve songs worked out musically and there is a lot of great **** on those tapes. We haven't really done a lot with lyrics yet. I kinda think that 'Seasons in the Abyss' was the combination of 'Reign in Blood' and 'South of Heaven'. I think that the next one will be an extension of 'God Hates us All' with Dave [Lombardo] playing, and the last time he played was on 'Seasons', so… Essentially what I am saying is how I think it will evolve, but you never know until it's done."
ConcreteWeb.be: When were and how will it be happening and what is the countdown for us?
Kerry King: "We are touring until Christmas and probably after the holidays we'll get unto it. We have a tentative thing that we might go to Japan in January and that would be great because we haven't toured Japan much on this record. If we do that then that is the last thing before we go into the studio."
ConcreteWeb.be: Any regrets or doubts about just having turned 40?
Kerry King: "I wouldn’t change a thing but I do wish we were more prolific. I took a backseat in the nineties and wasn't really involved, which you can tell by the records that are out. It took so long for them to ****ing come out! I had so many hobbies but got rid of all of them, before did 'God Hates Us All', which I think you can tell because it has all that ****ing hatred in it."
ConcreteWeb.be: Are you physically treating your body well?
Kerry King: "Not as good as I should but I do my best, I am 40 but still thrash my ***. METALLICA are 40 but don't even headbang anymore. When I saw them at Download [in the U.K.], the only one that went off is Rob [Trujillo, bass] and he is the fish out of water. I love Rob to death, but he doesn't belong in that band he belongs in SUICIDAL [TENDENCIES] or OZZY [OSBOURNE]. James [Hetfield] and Kirk [Hammett], their heads don't move the entire show. Where do these guys come from? They have turned into pop."
ConcreteWeb.be: Let's not talk about [MEGADETH's Dave] Mustaine then?
Kerry King: "Well, I listened to the entire new [MEGADETH] album and it's a piece of crap. I think Mustaine is one of the worst singers in rock ever, and this is not because I have a personal vendetta with him. Whoever told him that he can sing should be shot on the spot!"

I love slayer but kerry is being a bitch here, like tom always headbangs and like kerry doesnt look silly head banging with no hair *rolls eyes* and james has short hair so that would also look silly, he has back problems and hes playing guitar AND singing so headbanging is out of the question.

Ktulu19
10-30-2004, 09:39 PM
Ahhhhhhhhh, pffffffft! No Megadeth can ever get close to the legendary Four Horsemen! I personally do not like Mustaine. He got thrown out of Metallica for good and obvious reasons. When he started his own band, Megadeth, he basically tried copying Metallica. C'mon look at the Megadeth writing style on Megadeth CDs! Its almost an exact copy of Metallica's writing on CDs.
Slayer is in fact not a bad band. They have some not bad tunes. They were never anything compared to Metallica.
St. Anger is quite a dissapointment to me. This does not ean that I dhave lost my love towards Metallica though! Metallica will ALWAYS be num.1 on my list. St. Anger is much better than any metal recorded by bands nowadays, but it is worse than Metallica.
Still, as Metallica always does...THEY WILL COME UP WITH SOMETHING!
