dude, black album kicked ***?

Anyway, fellow Metallica fans. I feel that everyone disses metallica on this ****in site. I hate it. I think we need defend the ultimate metal band. Its crazy that people say they suck as much as they do. I dunno what we should do, maybe start a metallica clan or something.

One of the reasons they're hated is because of the ridiculous amount of die hard fanboys that maintain they are the best band ever, especialy when there are a lot of bad points to them.

The fanboys claim them to be most - talented, best live act, best song writers etc, andcant handle being beaten by anything.

Nope, in no way is that even close to best album of the year. Go get Megadeth's new album, The system has failed, or Lamb of God's new one, Ashes of the Wake.

Why ?!

Its drums are fake and the solo and rhythm parts are massively over-rated.

It tries so hard to be heavy and fast yet, it doesnt realy work.

Because it's a good song. The solo is difficult believe me, and the riff, while not complex, makes for extremely good headbanging.

Why are you saying believe me ? i play guitar and that solo isnt impressive - go listen to some proper "shred" and you'll see it's a simple 25 second long pentatonic, over-rated little wank.

They played all the classics, plus Dyer's eve (not really one of my favorites, but I wasn't expecting it), Disposable Heroes(wasn't expecting that one either :p), and Orion  I was surprised and very very happy when they played that one.

I saw Metallica in concert on Friday!

My brother is in the Met Club, and got drawn to be one of the people who go backstage for the meet 'n' greet. He got pictures with every member. Godsmack was the opener. They had a really great show, and played all the songs that are on the radio. They also had a drum-off between Sully and their drummer.

Metallica opened with their two usual openers (if you don't know which two those are, you obviously haven't been to a concert!) and their pyro was mind-numbingly loud and hurt my chest. Kirk was the one who came near to my area the most (I was on the floor, in like the second row the whole time) and played the second solo to one right in front of me. I can play that solo! Augh, it was great.

Rob did his crucifix, where he grabs his bass at arm's length and spins really fast, and that was awesome. He also let some people in the front row touch his bass.

Lars saw a dude with a sign in the first row asking if he could play his drums. Lars let him play the drums for the first verse of Seek + Destroy (which was in their encore).

Afterward, the band threw out handfuls of picks. I was with five other people, and we each got a pick. Lars threw out picks and a few drumsticks, too. Like four. Kirk had a solo part, and it was absolutely mind-blowing. Lots of audience participation, and it was loud, even with the earplugs.

It has to be; it's METALLICA!!!!!!11!1!

..I think James Hetfield is underrated as a soloist.. even as a riff writer in the 80s.. but that's because of all-mighty Kirk.

Hammett is def one of the top 5 rock guitarists of all time, up there with Hendrix, Clapton, Page.

Def the best American guitarist, maybe because of his european playin style!
peepz will argue that EVH started the whole virtuoso thing, & Satch & Vai are amazing, but anyone can do that with tons & tons of practice (well, vai is pretty talented) ..but even Randy Rhoads was more musical that EVH.

Hammett is American guitar glory! ..I think that has a lot to do with his personality, too.

And they really REALLY nailed MoP, it was PERFECT. WAAY better than when I saw them during the summer sanitarium tour.

And we were so damn loud, it was crazy. At the end of the show, kirk sayd "you mother****ers are louuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuud!"

Hammett didn't even start writing his own music until the Black Album. Which was the begining of the end. Their best stuff was written by Mustaine or Hetfield.

Don't you know ANYTHING about rock concerts?

They eliminate the ringing noise you hear while the music is playing, makes the pyro a lot less loud (but still enough to squint pretty hard), and also stops the famous three-day-ringing from occurring. Plus I was two or three people away from the stage, so the amps were RIGHT THERE.

Oh yeah, and Metallica themselves use earplugs. Or so I read in So What!. :D

they have a website where you can buy live dvd's or whatever. on the info for a concert it will tell the songs they played along w/ interesting facts. ex) July x, xxxx was the 5th time metallica played song"xxxxxxx" in Germany. i forgot the website but if you go to it you can look through past concerts.

…and justice for all has to be one of their top 3 greatest albums. only competition is RtL or MoP, possibly but very unlikely the black album

if you don't like St. Anger cause of Kirk not doing his solos, he actually wrote 27 solos for the 11 songs in St. Anger, but they couldn't put'em in there due to some audio problem or something, I forgot what the problem was, yet I did remember hearing solos in the demos of the songs. However there is a big rumor going on that they might re-release it with Kirk's solos if they fix the problem.
This is someone else's post from another forum. Is this true?

i agree with you , but re-load does not kick ***. it has only 3 songs that i like but nothing more than that. every other song is repetitive, has too much wah-wah pedal, or too much echo. i dont think st.anger sucks and yes it is differnt but im not saying it kicked *** either because it is also repetitive and does not change in sound. im glad metallica had their come back or whatever and i know they like what they're doing. so props to them. i think they just need to mix st.anger with the 8o's material and see what happens.\m/ metallicans!!!

Heres what i think about St Anger. (seen the movie as well)

Ok.

IMO i don't mind saint anger, my favourite being Ride. i personally think that they didn't think that they would sell as much "old stuff" kinda music as they would to what they did. As matter of fact, i don't think they would of sold any less... Look at The Darkness?? I think that they also wana show the world that they can do more than fast solo's, high screaming vocals and insane drum fills. Which personally, thats what i wana see them do! i think that's what gave metallica their edge.
I think that the lyrics in St anger (to james) are the most meaningful, but personally i don't like them. I wan't them to do another black album for their supposed, "Last album" but i suppose with St Anger selling as many copies as it did, they'll go back there again. Im happy for them that the got so much money of St Anger cause i think that they deserve it.
in conclusion..
Kirk is easily the calmest in the band.
James has the most talent in the band.
Lars has the best ideas. I personally think he has better ideas than Bob.
Cliff (was easily the best bassist)
Jason was good at cliff's stuff but only has 1 writting credit which i reckon the rest of the band got ****ed off with.
Robert is sick. "i haven't seen whiplash played like that since.... the cliff days!" he looks like a good guy. Good image.
together they make a pretty ****in' cool band. i want them to do well, but i also want them to do an album again in the long hair days! :thumb:

I saw them both nights they came to Montreal, I was the first person from the stage. Both shows were pretty good but i was pretty disappointed with their overall sound. There was no definition to Kirks guitar which made his solos sound thin. Im not gonna complain too much because i really enjoyed both shows. I really do feel that their live shows have gone downhill over the years.

i've a question. i am starting to think that "one" was recorded a little off key. is that so? i will tune my guitar almost perfectly. i think it is just when i play lead. the lead has a weird sound that probably makes it hard to play acoustically and sound on key. i don't mean this for guitar. i am just making an observation.

Mine has to be Orion or Damage Inc.

The title track.

LaBrie doesn't sing on Damage Inc. it's the guy from Napalm Death

No,they covered the entire MoP album with LaBrie.

Then on a seperate occasion MUCH earlier, they had Barney from Napalm Death.

I like it all from Kill 'Em to the black album Load and Reload were good but lost alot of that thrash sound that the other albums had. Garage Inc was just some old albums and cover songs put togather on a cd which was cool because those albums are kinka hard to find now (especially the $5.98 E.P) and alot of those covers you would not normally hear. S&M was also pretty good some of the songs werent as good as the origionals but still good. St.Anger JUST PLAIN SUCKS

i agree with you, i always have to tune my guitar a little sharp when i play anything from Ride, its weird. It may be just the recording, Analog can be weird like that. so whats your theory anyways?
Well, Gav's theory is that seeing as they used floyd roses maybe they had them in the touring bus and it got tuned up half a step and they were playing and they were like "Oh dang, it's up half a step" and then they were like "**** it, it sounds good" but I don't know.

WTF you're not making any sense..
If you want to learn a Metallica song..*provided you're a noob guitarist*
Go learn some St.Anger.
It's easy and there's no solos in it to mess with your mind.

Metallica Rules
10-11-2004, 09:29 AM
u have gotta be kidding me dude.. .. Im no noob guitarist. Im a lead guitarist in my band and recently I just masterd master of puppets solo(took me 3 weeks). But im still far from completing metallica whole songs as it will take like every 1-2 weeks to master every solo.

Metallica Rules

and if u say im not making any sense. When i ask for help, i was looking to see if anyone actually has the official tab book on metallica. There are some solos which sound right but isn't how kirk plays it. dude u should learn to comprehend people's conversation, b4 making any silly comments and not make conclusion to people being a noob guitarist or who so whatever.

Joe
10-11-2004, 09:34 AM
Just learn Enter Sandman.

well if you wanna learn a metallica song, thats a popular riff you can learn. but when it comes to a skillful and difficult song to learn i would recommend Call of the Ktulu, Fade to Black, One, and Master of Puppets.

Joe
10-11-2004, 09:36 AM
fade to black took me a month to master the solo, one has taken me a couple of weeks, call of the ktulu i haven't learned yet but it'll probably take awhile considering its a 9 minute instrumental.

Wow, arent you amazing.

You're obviously a guitar noob because you believed that calling yourself the lead guitarist of your band made you good.

That and the fact you can *play* the 2nd MoP solo, which if you'd heard any real guitaring, youd notice is crap.

sorry for the double post BUT

for anyone who likes sum 41. they're new album is heavvvyyyyyyyyy!
this one song on there called, "the bitter end". i swear it a tribute to metallica, because the song sounds just like battery; the solos sound a like the way the dude sings from sum 41 sings his lyrics like metallicas, and the guitar work is a lot like that which of batterys. really cool

you must be on crack if you think it DOESN'T sound like battery.
The intro kinda sounds like ST ANGER. then the riff after that sounds like the intro riff to THROUGH THE NEVER. Then it sounds totally like BATTERY. the solo is almost identical. there is a part in there that sounds like blackened as well.

I hate how people call Sum 41 pop-punk still this new album and does this look infected are alot more rock and metal influenced. So you gotta respect the band for trying to make some credible decent music. I pity them because they will always be known for the ****ty song they did in their early career. :amaze:

can someone suggest more songs from metallica that are decent besides

master of puppets
fade to black
the one
enter sandman
the unforgivin

i know there is more, those are just the ones im familiar with:)

The name of the 3rd song is One not the one and Nothing Else Matters, For Whom the Bell Tolls, The Unforgivin II, Turn the Page, Enter Sandman, The Call of Ktulu, Seek and Destroy, Battery, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), and Ride the Lightning are the best Metallica songs. All of them are great, though.
