I love Metallica and think that St. Anger and the past couple albums were good, but they really need to get back to their bread and butter, blinding speed, and guitar theatrics. Kerry King of Slayer said it best," They have one of the best guitar players on the planet and they are not letting him solo? Thats just not the Metallica I knew and once loved."

Paranoidd
07-15-2004, 02:23 PM
When did he say that?

He's also said that Kirk Hammett is the most overrated guitar player ever to be in a guitar mag....(Kerrang, 1995).

Thats a little odd.

DisposableHeroes

Orion7
07-15-2004, 02:50 PM
I heard that Kerry said that too. Whatever though, Kirk owns him. Kerry might have him in the speed category, but he just can't compare to Kirk's pure musicianship.

heavymetalfreak6969
07-15-2004, 02:50 PM
Anyone see that rolling stone mag top 100 best guitarists. And they made kirk 11th? And that Jack from the white stripes was 6th or something?! something is wrong with that. And Angus Young was 96th?! Van Halen was 70th or something along with Randy Rhoads? That magazine was totally wrong and it totally pissed me off

You should check The Unamed Feeling, hell of a song. People should give St-Anger a chance. It sounds weird and boring at first but after a few listenings it grows on you big time. It's a very good album and if you have a good stereo system at home, crank it, you'll see the drums sound way less annoying

Kirk-hammet
07-15-2004, 08:27 PM
i dont really know why people think kirk is overrated, i think hes underated if u ask me. people say mustaine is better yet be just plays really fast. kirk has way more complexity and thinking in his solos, and all of them match the song awesomely. Ya on this one think they had top 100 guitarists of all time, kirk wasnt even on it. WTF is that! O well in Guitar World he was rated number 2 behind Tony Iommi

Metallica has turn into the band I despise the most over the past two years or so, St. Anger sucks, and the new EP they have comin doesn't appear to be any improvement at all. Although their new material annoys the hell out of me, I do enjoy listening to their older stuff, namely "Ride the Lightning", "Master of Puppets", and "The Black Album".

Well, at the time rock music video meant guys in leather and perms running around in platform shoes. Metallica didn't want to be a part of that. It was only when they realized that a music video didn't have to be all flash, that it could add to the song that they decided that videos weren’t quite as evil as they had once thought.

Your timing is off in a few places, the chorus is very messy, and your tempo tends to change just slightly from time to time. Also the slow interlude is very sloppy up until it cuts out, but with more practice and polishing I think it'll sound great. Nice work. :thumb:

Metallica is just awesome. I've gotten into them quite heavily over the last 7 years, and they are by far my favorite band. Love them or hate them, you gotta respect them, and not the way that MTV did last year (that was a disgrace). Favorite Metallica song is up in the air, depends on the mood. The intro to Enter Sandman is quite heavy and nasty, but then again, so is half of St. Anger, which, in my opinion, does not suck. Just gotta get used to it. I'm seeing Metallica in October and I can't wait. Already compiling a list of songs I want to hear. By the way, what's the best Metallica song that's been played live?

Who were the origional members and what part were they in the band?

I know it was Hetfield and Ulrich, as guitarist/singer and drummer, duh. Dave Mustaine of Megadeth was the original guitarist, before being booted out and replaced by Kirk Hammett (thank god). And the original bassist wasn't Cliff. It was one of their friends. His name was Dave something, McCovney, I think.

Metallica would have been better if they had mustaine and hammet. James could play the riffs and sing, becuase he is a better singer than mustaine, and hammett and mustaine could throw down some crazy doubled solos like iron maiden.

i think that Enter Sandman could very well fit on "Load" and a couple songs from load could go on the black album. today i listened to Load and i thought that some songs could fit on the black album. like...........Bleeding Me, King Nothing, Hero of the Day,maybe Until it Sleeps, Aint my Bitch, and Mama Said, the last three MIGHT have a nice fit if u were to out them on the black album.

I dont wanna tear down your excitement, but dont be too hopefull. I think they only played disposable heroes like once or twice

What kind of mic does James use in Poor Twisted Me. I have heard the effect on his voice in some spots during the song is made by a harmonica mic like a shure bullet mic, or hohner blues blaster mic. Does anyone know what he used. I want one....

i don't believe that it's you on that picture

It is and I don't care who believes me about anything, I could care less what people think of me. :) I know they are terrible pictures of me

Our face was, like the photograph
Painted white
We did not speak very often about it
What does it matter now?
Cloak of autumn shroud
I gaze, dim ricochet of stars
I reckon it is time for me to leave
