Kirk played them a bit differently than Dave. But still, they sound very similar.

No, he did not progress fast. He was still having lessons even when on tour.

15 isnt a young starting age - its probably the normal ages, if not a year or 2 earlier.

I know people who have played 3/4 years and are faster and more technicaly adept than him.

Sandtrap

I think that dave was a pretty important part of the band, because:
1. He helped write some of the songs on Kill em' and Lightning such as:
Call of Ktulu, Ride the lightning and more I can't think of.
2. After Metallcia was threw with him he formed his own band that I have to say did well and still are.

Now Dave and Metallica are back and making a new cd, if anyone wants to know more about that just reply and I can explain more.

Sandtrap
06-21-2004, 04:24 PM
hmmm i never realy thought about it, but Who wrote the solos on Kill em all?

Kirk or mustaine

It was some of both, if you have the CD you can look under the title of the song and if paranthesis it will explain which member of Metallica helped write the song...

I Love metallica, i consider myself one of the biggest bands ever i mean theres not one song i dont like!...now St.Anger i think is way different like Lars's snare style its kinda annoying at times but its all good when u get into it i think...My favorite songs from each album are
Kill Em All: Seek and Destroy
Ride The Lightning: Creeping Death
Master Of Puppets: The thing that should not be
And Justice For All: One
Black Album: My Friend Of Misery
Load: Mamma Said
Re Load: Fuel
St. Anger: Frantic
Garage Inc: Astronomy(i know its a cover but still very nice song)

These are my absolut fav. songs from each of their albums and i love playin em on guitar i mean its just such excitment while playin these songs...all I have to say is Metallica is the greatest Rock/Metal band ever and they will remain that way forever!!!

P.S. My band(Explicit) is good too, anyone want a sample of our songs just ask!!

I think this would make Metallica fricking awesome, because they should be.

New Line-Up:
James Hetfield-Vocals, Rhythm Guitar
Dave Mustaine-Lead Guitar, Background Vocals
Marty Friedman-Lead Guitars
Steve Harris-Bass
Joey Jordison-Drums

Three guitars, two great lead guitars, a great bass player that can write, and Joey who kicks arse on the skull-rattling drums.

Songs to play in the concerts:
From Metallica............

Hit the Lights
The Four Horseman
Seek And Destroy
Metal Militia
Am I Evil
Fight Fire With Fire
Ride the Lightening
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Fade to Black
Battery
Master of Puppets
Sanitarium
Damage, Inc.
Blackened
One

That's 100 minutes alone

Now for Megadeth........

Wake Up Dead
The Conjuring
Peace Sells
Devil's Island
Set the World Afire
In My Darkest Hour
Holy Wars
Hangar 18
Tornato of Souls
Skin 'O My Teeth
Symphony of Destruction
Reckoning Day
The Killing Road
I Thought I knew It All
Black Curtains

That's about 72 minutes of Megadeth.

I'm sure there's some Killing is My Business songs I'm missing 'cuz I don't have that, so some songs could be substituted for the Megadeth ones I listed. But how about that idea? The concert would be like 3 hours long, pretty heavy with 15 Metallica and 15 Megadeth songs, and I'm sure they would come out with good albums.

I'll probably get flamed for this but what the heck...

A couple pages back there was a little discussion about the technical abilities of Lars and it pisses the hell out of me when people say a drummer is better than another because of his double bass speed!! SPEED ISN'T EVERYTHING!!! And if you want to talk about speed don't take into account all these speed and death metal bands because most of these bands' drummers use doubles with their feet while Lars sticks with good ol' singles which are much more physically streneous, especially when you hit as hard as he does. So I just had to get that off my chest, but if you want technical jazz ability - Buddy Rich / Gene Krupa, rock - Mike Portnoy, and Metal - Lars. He isn't overated and is one of the most original live drummers I've heard in a while.

Actaully for drummer speed means lot about there ability. I mean even i could play all the songs in the world if i played it at 10bpm. But then it takes a skilled drummer to do it at 210bpm+.

I hate doulbe bass pedal. It annoys me, but thats just me

Props to you as I respect your opinion, but I think that's when they went commercial and lost much of their allure. That's when mainstreamers went in and bought their stuff. I'm not one that bolts when bands go towards mainstream, cuz sometimes the music is really good, but I just think Metallica is at their best when the're heavy.

You know whats funny as hell? I went to a linkin park concert, and stupid story of the year was opening. Story of the year actually did a cover of Metallica"s Enter sandman. James has a deep voice. I think theres volumes I, II & III of The Blackest Album. Its just a heap of bands of extremely varied styles to Tallica covering their songs. I've only heard one, it was so-so. I've been warned to steer clear of the others, but I'll prolly check em out anyway.

i disagree, riff-wise the black album is probably their heaviest work because the riffs are just so...crushingly heavy... but still not "heavy" in the sense of disposable heroes/sanitarium chorus/damage inc etc.

If my bassist off 3 years experience can shred 3 and 4 finger plucking and all of Claypool's solo's, than Cliff could too. Claypool pioneered a bass style that is unique, but i find it repulsive. Cliff is better. And Elefson from Megadeth is as good as Cliff.

okay i need to post this because its just plain weird.

i knew my dad had a pretty extensive cd collection but i thought it was mostly bands like ac/dc and david bowie...classic rock stuff. So i was outside listening to metallica just enjoying the day, and then i decided to go back inside. And my dad was cleaning out the house, and a box of cdss were on the porch and as i went to open to door, i saw, lying on the ground, a black cd case....upon further examination i saw that it was metallica's black album. It was so ****ing crazy seeing how i was just listneing to them, and then as if from nowhere this metallica album just falls from the sky. I know it wasn't mine, i dont buy cd's and i was just like woh ****!1 my dad's a metalhead

i hate em, really... one of my friends likes em and we were listening to them (i had no choice. his house.) and he said "Man, les claypool is the best bassist ever!" i just stared at him. after a few minutes i was like "your ****ting me, right?"

i hate their sound but if you say les claypool is not an excellent bassist then you dont know **** about playing or writing bass.

all of those were and are very good bassists i wont deny... but i think the most inspirational bassist i have ever seen is talena atfield of KITTIE and the best over all is Fieldly of KORN

the "Ride the Puppets" cd(songs i would switch from one album to the other between 2 cds. in this case puppets and lightning)

Ride the Puppets
1-battery
2-master of puppets
3-sanitarium
4-the thing that should not be
5-(instead of disposable heros)-fade to black
6-(instead if leper messiah)-for whom the bell tolls
7-(instead of orion)-call of ktulu
8-garage inc.

it could very diff.

lame idea kinda but im bored

hmm you obvously havent seen too many bassists my friend. Talena Atfield was fairly good, but fieldy? now hes got a style thats *ahem* different, but if hes your biggest influence, your never gonna have a whole lot of potential. if i were you, id check out some billy sheehan or stu hamm, and claypool. theres some real bassists for ya.

amen

can someone suggest more songs from metallica that are decent besides

master of puppets
fade to black
the one
enter sandman
the unforgivin

i know there is more, those are just the ones im familiar with:)
yeah! I mean, i don't want to state the ovious or anything but i'm pretty sure that all of you either have or have listened to the "And Justice for All" album. The best song on there is Blackened .And I recomend that that album should be on the top five list of your favorite albums. (IMO). :chug: :smoke:
