Heheh there coming 15 minutes from my house. In germany, to bad the tickets sold out like 3 months ago. me and my friend are probly gonna try to sneak in, dout it will work though. oh well, itll be worth a shot.
New subject. have any of you ever met any one from the band. My friend met Kirk and James while he was waiting for tickets. He had his guitar and kirk said he was "good". That would be one of the coolest things ever. He got his ticket signed by them all except rob.

I love Kirk but I guess in Brunei, Metallica will never come here... Brunei is in Southeast Asia, Island of Borneo, neighbours to East Malaysia.
Westlife, Moffatts, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston are some of the artists that came here ;)

I just read through the thread, and a few pages back I noticed dip**** High on Maiden... how the **** can anyone be so ****ing stupid as to refer to Slayer as classic metal? They formed the same time and released their first albums the same year as Metallica, and Metallica isn't classic metal. Granted, I love Metallica, but they aren't classic and Slayer sure as **** aren't. Slayer sucks, actually. So does Iron Maiden. And so do you, ****wit. how are metallica not classic metal. they shaped metal into the art it became.sabbath layed the ground works but metallica brought it to its true glory.they have more classic metal songs than any other band, including sabbath and maiden, who are 2 great bands.metal has been in existence for roughly 30 years and metallica have been going for 22 years, shaping metal all along the way. every new band tha hits the scene seems to have been influenced by metallica in one way or another. the are the undisputed kings of heavy metal and right up there with the all time greats of rock as a whole. so how arent they classic metal

I would just like to say, no matter what you think of the way their career has gone you have to respect the amount of work they put in for their fans.
They are my fav band, but i recently got right into APC, so when i heard they were both playing bdo i was stoked. Firstly i hear APC have cancelled, for no reason, then i hear they have replaced the aussie gigs with european ones, with no indication of another tour. Yet metallica, in their 40s now, can tour the whole world no probs and when they do pull out of shows (like south america recently) they give emphatic apologizes, legitimate reasons (lars' shoulder has been ****ed up) and promise to come as soon as possible. They are playin bdo and a solo gig, of which im goin to both.
It just reminded me why they are my fav band.

If you're gonna talk about who brought metal to its true glory, you should know better that Judas Priest were the creators of true heavy metal, and they also created speed metal. Every new band that hits the scene is influenced by them, and Metallica were probably their biggest lovechild. About Metallica having more classic songs than Judas Priest... bull**** I say!

And Load and ReLoad. but i heard those arnt to great. So im curious, should i go out and buy Kill em all? Is is worth my 200 rand?

alott of idiots say load and reload are crap because they are a bit different from the other albums and these people think that bashing metallica and those two albums makes them cool.fact is load and reload are two brilliant albums.outlaw torn, hero of the day and bleeding me are great tunes off load and reload has great tunes like unforgiven 2 and fixxxer, to name a couple.load also has mama said, a beautiful acoustic tune and reload has a piece of melodic magic with low mans lyric.well worth the money.
kill em all is also worth the money, classic thrash metal

How many it sells dosnt matter. if u listen to it u can tell that most the songs are horrible. lyrics repeated many times. sounds like lars just felt like hitting every single drum as fast and as many times as possible and of course the biggest disapointment to me being a guitarist is that there is no solos.
I would also like to ask everyone who their favorite bassist in metallica is or was. Mine is Cliff Burton. RIP

I like Cliff Burton  as a songwriter and bassist. Jason's Live "Power" is really cool. Let's give Rob a chance for their next album ;)
Get Kill 'Em All, lots of good songs in it. My favourite MoP song is Master of Puppets :D and Nothing Else Matters from Black Album.
Unnamed Feeling is also a cool song.

The Struggle Within

i agree with surge that "the frayed ends of sanity" is a great song (one of my favs) that doesnt really get listened to that much, and is sometimes even described as filler!!
my fav met songs are: hit the lights/ the 4 horsemen/ ride the lightning/ fade to black/ call of ktulu/ master of puppets/ orion/blackened/ and justice 4 all/ harvestor of sorrow/ frayed
ends of sanity/ to live is to die/ unforgiven/ nothin else matters...
i know this doesnt really narrow it down much! but i kept it as short as i culd (dont wanna bore u do i? ;) )

oh yeah whoever it was who was wondering weather to get kill em' all, or not, needs thir head examining! its a truley brilliant album (not so much of a masterpiece, like master of puppets) and captures metallica when they were young, naieve, creative, poor, and unfamous. it also gives off a great amount of energy just listenin to it! the production is a bit "rough", but is made up by the quality of songs.
highlights are : hit the lights (metallicas first ever song!)/ the four horsemen (the middle guitar solo absolutely kicks ***!!!!)/ whiplash (classic!)/ seek and destroy (this is still on the live set list... so that gives some idea of the quality!)
the album is also a great tribute to cliff, as it shows off his talent really welll and he has his bass solo on it too (pulling teeth) which is stunning.
this album proves that metallica have always been amazing!

I don't know why Master of Puppets is so popular, sure it's a great album, but I would put it in third place
1. 'Ride the lightning' 2. '... And Justice for all' and then Master of puppets.
Brahm_K
11-26-2003, 11:29 AM
My favourite Metallica solo is in Ride the Lightning, and my favourite Metallica songs are Ride the Lightning and Orion. Favourite albums are Lightning, Master and Justice. I dislike all their videos, but then again, I'm not a music video fan. For me, Sanitarium is better than One. I like One, but the heavy parts don't sound good to me (though they have some great clean riffs in that song). I am not a fan of Load, Reload, St. Anger (though Load has some good songs), and hopefully, like Maiden did with Brave New World, Metallica will redeem themselves as the kings of metal. About the whole classic metal and perfection; I believe the bands that laid the roots for metal are Maiden, Sabbath and Priest, and although I believe that bands like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Death definitely helped metal evolve, they did not perfect it, and no one has yet. Metal continues to evolve (not Nu metal, the stuff you won;t ever hear on TRL) through bands like Children of Bodom, Shadows Fall, Opeth, and Iced Earth.

I use to love Metallica. They really got me into loving music in the first place, so for that they will always be great to me. I still litsen to Load quite a bit, I just love that album and always will.

Ya, Metallica was the first metal band I liked, and from there, I discovered more and more metal bands. I can remember when I first heard their songs (Whiplash and Master of Puppets were my first two) I was completely blown away, as I had never heard anything like it before.

Anger has a couple good songs but by far worst album they have made:chug:

It's still metal, doesn't mean load/reload is thrash metal, but it's metal alright.

Yes.. Kill'em All, Ride the Lightning, Puppets and ...Justice are all amazing CDS, as is the Black Album, and I have copies of each. Like I said, I feel that after that, Metallica started to suffer. I don't believe a band can be considered the kings of metal for songs they released more than 10 years ago. And bball_1523, do you seriously consider the songs Mama Said, Hero of the Day, Until it Sleeps and The Outlaw Torn are metal?

those are simple hard rock ballads that metallica love to make and what about thorn within, bad seed, house that jack built, wasting my hate, fuel, better than you? Those are some weird type of metal songs that only metallica can classify lol.

there not glam rock thats just sickening. and just because they had long hair doesnt make them hair metal neither. they are just metal songs i suppose if anything. and also it isnt rite to say kill em all is one of metallicas best albums as david mustaine wrote some of the songs on it and also i heard they used some of his stuff on mop to which is just back stabbing. kick out your guitarist then use his music lol its pathetic.

Dude im really glad they made a Metallica the recent bashing is just to much. I really dont like the new album but my sense is their really trying to do something different. I mean Kirk has been playing solos for about 20 years now and i think hes tired of it. I think they all wanna try something new and compend them for that i may not like it but try to put yourself in their shoes. Well thanks guys i love old metalica i have all the albums awesome ****.

glam rock is a bunch of wusses in make up. ever see metallica in make up? make up as in made up like a woman not black eye linening and stuff. you cant say it takes music style or looks to be classed as hair metal or glam rock and stuff it takes both otherwise so many pop bands would be hair metal bands when there not. im just saying about hair metal because alot of people seem confused about that.

But still I would like to make a few points
1.NE1 who says metallica lost their crown as kings of metal is wrong. In case no one has noticed Metal has changed alot over the last 20 years and each time metallica has tried to be the best.
2. St. anger - yes it's their worst album but compared to other nu-metal mush thats out their it's brilliant
3. Oh and also could ne 1 suggest sum good metallic songs to play w/my band. Were already doing One, nothing else matters and Sad but true but would like 2 do other ones.

Accoring to my mates in England (I'm a Pom) They still have it indeed, they all saw 'em at the Leeds Festival. Plus they only played 2 songs from St Anger, which is a good thing and most the rest were ones from 1983-1991. What do you guys think of Bob Rock the producer? How has he both helped and hurt metallica since becoming their producer?
I think he's got a lot of talent when it comes to recording albums (just check out the black album, superb quality) excluding st. anger.
I'm still suspicious that he may be influencing metallica to play for a mtv crowd instead of just the regular thrash crowd they used to play for.

bob rock is an exellent producer. plays good bass too...
id like to see metallica go out on the back of a double cd best of album, one disc playing original faithful versions of two or three tracks from each album. the second disc featuring acoustic arrangements of the same tracks, just as a musical excursion.
20 years is not that long to be recording. the rolling stones are pushing 40... metallica has plenty left in the tank

What do you guys think about Metallica, instead of trying to make a new album, trying to remaster the old albums.
Ride the Lightning- Awesome album, but just sounds like **** by todays standards, production-wise
Master of Puppets- Sounding better then Lightning, but could use a remastered version
...and Justice for All- Three Words... "Where's the Bass?"
Those three, not only their greatest three albums, but would sound unreal with full pounding bass guitar and the double bass would be so intense

I dunno guys...I have tried to like Metallica for a LONG time, but I just can't do it. I can't stand listening to any one song for more than a few seconds...
Their music is so very close to what I like, but somehow something is missing that makes me really dislike them. . . I know for a fact that part of it is Hetfield's vocals- so........uninspired I guess is the best word. They all sound the **** same. I find Max Cavalera's poor-english shouts more interesting. Funny, since I know Sepultura was so greatly influenced by Metallica.
The actual musical structure itself just doesn't do it for me either. It nags at me since it is so close to what I do like...
Honestly, I would much rather listen to Motorhead ("detonating the most explosive heavy metal riffs when Metallica was still dealing with acne problems in high school") or old Sepultura than (old or new) Metallica any day.
I consider them to be one of the most overrated successful bands of all time.

Metallica is the original main stream fast playing hardcore metal bands. Judis Preist, and all those "metal" bands from the 80's were capitalizing on their version of "metal". And even though there are more hardcore bands out there besides Metalica, they're lyrics arn't all I hate you you stupid ****er and stuff. They can have emotion and hardcore in the same song, and that's one of the things I love about it. :):)

I dunno if anyone else has herd about the new rumor regarding metallica. Basically it says they’ve been working on a lot of new material and there coming out with a new album in late 2004.
back to the front

that would be sweet if they came out with a new album... if it has solos
rockdude4ever
12-06-2003, 08:46 PM
Yea it would be...
I wish they would make a record that combined Nu-metal and thrash.... u know like have the rhythms and drop C tuning of St. Anger but have solos like from their pre-Black days and have really better production... that would be killer
moving on.. has anyone heard that Fade To Bluegrass cd?
i commend them for trying to do something newer, but more ppl would enjoy them for who the originally were. also, they dont look like there having as much fun as back then

Ride the lightning. One nice *** solo. Actually one of the harder Metallica solos out there.
but solos i enjoy playing:
Sanitarium (all of them, especially the first two are mind blowing)
Master of Puppets
Enter Sandman
Unforgiven II
Damage inc. (ok i wish :upset: )
Yeah. A few of them i REALLY like like sanitarium for example.

Two of my favorite solo's is in Orion, the distorted bass solo at 6:35. Even though it sounds simple, I like it becuase when most people hear it they think its a guitar. Also in that song, i love the simple but sweet bass solo at 3:58.

Metallica are going to be touring for another year then they are going to be back in the studio by the end of 2004.
They are also going to be releasing some recordings they did before James went into rehab, plans on how these recordings will be released have not yet been decided.

Jason left Metallica because Metallica refused to let him make a solo album I think. They also pretty much made him the 'Fourth Member'. He was sorta... left out and such. He was pissed so he left. Hope Metallica doesn't repeat the same mistake to Rob Trujillo.

James didn't let Jason release any of his stuff he recorded or any of his many collaborations. Jason just became detatched from the whole band and eventually left.
Jason is now planning to release all his projects through his label Chop House Recods.

Here are my favorites broken down on each album...(although I love just about every single song they've ever written)
Kill Em All - Seek N Destroy - What an epic opening riff.
Ride The Lightning - Fight Fire With Fire - Just because I believe the opening riff is the heaviest metal riff ever written. That is pure thrash!
Master of Puppets - Master of Puppets - Just god-like, everything about the song.
And Justice For All - Dyers Eve - The guitar work is just super human fast and tight...Not to mention Lars is a monster on the drums in it!
Metallica - God I dont know...Nothing Else Matters probably. I like all the heavy **** on the album, but to me this was the best crafted song on the entire album. james solo is perfect.
Load - Probably The Outlaw Torn
ReLoad- Unforgiven II
St. Anger - The Unnamed Feeling

Yes, St. Anger, although beautifully written lyric wise, wasn't as true as they could be to their fans who were expecting something like the "black" album or load or reload or whatever. I hope they keep the length and the similar lyric writing, just go back to having some wicked solos and some great guitar riffs.

I think most of us were expecting an album like Master Of Puppets after they said they had gone back to their roots and started writing thrashy songs again.
Did I hear someone say ....And Justice For All sucks? What is the matter with you, it has some of their best crafted songs on the album. Blackened, Harvester Of Sorrow, To Live Is To Die and Dyers Eve are classic examples. I don't hate you, I just think your opinion is a little warped.

Brilliant if you compare it to other nu-metal? I beg to differ. Being a bassplayer I always pay attention to the basslines of the song I am listening too and I found the basslines in st. anger extremely weak. I understand that that bass in these songs didn't have much of a place to go, but the lines could have been a lot more interesting. Atleast in old metallica songs there are many basslines and it doesn't get boring to play.
Also listen to any metallica song on st. anger and then check out any song on Mudvayne's cd LD50. Now THOSE bass lines are brilliant. So to conclude, I am only comparing the bass lines and nothing more. When these 2 cd's are compared, it's clear which has better bass.

...I'm not 100% on this, because i've only heard half the album, but St. Anger has awful lyrics if you ask me. Maybe it's just the crappy songwriting behind them, but "you live it or lie it" and "my lifestyle determines my deathstyle" sound dumb as hell to me, and the lyrics are all repetitive as hell, st. anger, the song, is long but just keeps repeating different stupid groups of lyrics... Nothing compared to the mindblowing lyrics of all their old stuff or even the decent writing of their 90's stuff. Just my opinion, maybe i missed some good lyric writing.

I don't know... I always found Hammett was too focused on either pentatonic runs with too much wah, or really composed neo-classical solos. Take Fade To Black. The first solo is good as a melodic figure, but the other lead parts are just repetitive and tedious. A great song, but Hammett could have done so much better with it in terms of soloing. If you listen to the short second solo in the Sonata Arctica cover, you'll see what I mean.

Do you actually have a clue. There are blatantly more amazing songs than you dweebs even know about. Orion; Call of Ktulu; Fade to Black; jump In The Fire; Creeping Death? Who says the black Album is an epic? it is good only because its metallica, but compared to the good old days it is still lame, as is anything recent.
