The reason for the discrepancy between numbers:
Inside the thread, the original post in the thread counts as post #1.
Outside, only REPLIES to the thread are counted.
So the outside count is always a single post less.

I like Metallica allot, they'r last album is not so muscular as people say, songs are as poor as agressive, and the good solos compleatly desapeard, altough is better than load and reload they can do much better. i think bob rock f....d em up, the only truly good album with the men was the black album.

I think its this next album (after st. anger) and they'll call it a day. It will prolly be somehting epic like black album, possible like reload....but i doubt it will go back tothe old days...i thin metallica want to put those days behind if i'm not mistaken.
for sure, reading thier biographies and such, it seems to be a bit of a more painfull time for them...with all the drinking and stuff...not to mention the death of Mr Burton (bass monster guru).
I dont like St Anger as much as i like their other albums (...And Justice For All is my favorite) but it isnt such a bad album like people make it out to be.
another album like the Load/Reload offerings would be nice, something upbeat with new displays of Kirks awsome guitar solo's

I doubt it...they seem only interested in money these days, so I would imagine the next album to be more radio-friendly crap.
Maybe a couple more gimmick albums...like another cover album or a greatest hits album with "special unreleased tracks".

amen
can someone suggest more songs from metallica that are decent besides
master of puppets
fade to black
the one
enter sandman
the unforgivin
i know there is more, those are just the ones im familiar with:)
Shortest straw
ride the lightning
battery
creeping death
orion
it just keeps going on baby!
I think what screwed them up was the way they recorded "St. Anger". When they recorded "St. Anger" all they did was jam together. It would have been a lot better if they didn't take that approach for that album.

^ when they performed st. anger live i was suprised. it actually sonuds really good! lol. but i still hate the album.
I dont know why people constantly put down St. Anger. It is a great album. It may not be their best but it is still a great album. It is alot different then their older stuff but thats what make it great, its unlike anything else out there. It isnt as good as ...And justice for all or Master of Puppets but is still really good. I think most people didnt give it a chance because it was so much different. Its much heavier than most off their other stuff. Im not saying their older stuff isnt good its great im just saying give St. Anger a better chance.

whew, i feel much better(not related to metallica much, and i know that)^. so i shall say this..... A lot of ppl keep asking what the next album is like. nobody knows, they havent said anything i dont think.the only thing they said was "its going to be like load and re-load" but they were laughing while they said it so i doubt thats what its goin to sound like.

Jeez, I'm steamed. For the first 3/4 of chemistry I had good teacher, gave me level 4 (that's 80-100%) on all my papers. Now, the regular teacher for the course is back from maternity leave, and she's a real nitpicking bitch. Gives me level 2 or 3 (60-80%) for the tiniest little mistakes. I hope she has another baby or something so she'll go back home.

ok here are the best songs on each album 2 me startin from the top.
KILL EM' ALL- four horseman
Ride the Lightning- Fade to Black (im sure everyone agrees on that one)
Master of Puppets- this one is kind of a tie i would have 2 say Welcome Home (Sanatarium) and Disposable Heroes
And Justice For All- Blackened
Black- Of Wolf and Man
Load- Mama Said
Reload- Fuel
i gues Garage Inc could count to so i would say Turn the Page (this remake is amazing)
St. Anger- not 2 many but mine is the Unnamed Feeling ( i think this song is the best one. its an amazing song i think)
these are my opinions but 2 me r the best ones

currently my fav song is the ride the lightning
i like all of the first four albums, so i randomly mix cds with mixed tracks from them all , but i have lik 500 diff ones with a bunch of diff combinations, but mainly right now i got and justice for all as my fav album, then ride, thenmop, then kill, and the rest is just good, i love it all though, but it dont speak to me like the first 4 albums did, i like the agression they put ointo their music

The song that probably got me into metallica was probably the unforgiven. I first heard it on the black album at my grandads house. My grandad owned the black album! How  is that :)
Hah, that's cool.
I would never see my grandparents or even my parents listen to Metallica.

Back to Metallica, what do you think the best metaphor James uses in a song is ?
I think it's in Until it Sleeps; refering to cancer as a a dirty, staining monster, that just hates you and clings and wont leave you alone. And the way James contrasts that with the calm *just hold me until it sleeps*.

Fade to Black is very very cool idea.
Most bands use the idea of *not being able to caryy on* as a metaphor for suicide. However Metallica used suicide as the metaphor for not carrying on. It's really clever - it turns the idea on its head.

Squirrel

Yeah , it makes the song not just sound, but a feeling; you an connect to it and understand fully what James was going through, and trying to express.
I believe Unforgiven is about growing up and still holding hate for the people that mistreated you as a child, the *you label me, i label you*, showing that they forced thing on him, and now he's forcing them to have the title of *Unforgiven*.
Unforgiven 2; i think its about love. He mentions the door *the door is locked now* and i think that refers to his heart opening to her ( growing to love her ). *But its open if youre true, ( ie: he'll only love her if shes truthful with him ).
I think the chorus *sick and tired ill stand alone, could you be there? cos im the one that waits for you, or are you unforgiven too?*, i think this shows he wants to partner with a person who's been through the same things as him ( being opressed/an "unforgiven" ) and he's asking her *are you the same as me, is this love ?*.
The line *should i open it ( the door ) for you ?* - ie should i open my heart and love you ?.
The *i take this key and bury it in you, because youre unforgiven too* - i think this means he finds she is untruthful so he puts a part of him into her ( a memory ? ) and he doesnt ASK if shes unforgiven he SAYs - YOU ARE unfrogiven.
I think the whole song is he's looking for love, and he doesnt know whether he should open up, but he'll stand in any situation, as times goes on, just for love, but he finds in the end that shes untruthful - and he dubs her an unforgiven too.
Phew! thats long ! :)

Pre black is a mix of emotional and other - songs like Creeping Death and Four Horsemen have no emotion at all, but things like Fade to Black have great deep lyrics.
As a whole i think Black onward is more emotional with BRILLIANT songs like Outlaw torn, NEM, both Unforgivens, Infact all songs on Load and Realod/ black and some of St anger is stuff the ppl can relate to and also have very deep meanings.

- songs like Creeping Death and Four Horsemen have no emotion at all
well creeping death is about moses and the plagues, like
"Slaves
Hebrews born to serve, to the pharaoh
Heed
To his every word, live in fear
Faith
Of the unknown one, the deliverer
Wait
Something must be done, four hundred years
So let it be written, so let it be done
I'm sent here by the chosen one
So let it be written, so let it be done
To kill the first born pharaoh son
I'm creeping death"
and when he says blood , h4e is saying that on the door if they put lambs blood there he will pas it, this is what i realized, but i never read the lyrics to find this out, i just listened closely
Hitroshimite
06-11-2004, 05:38 PM
For a song to have emotion doesn't mean it has to be 'deep' or depressing. It just means that it has to evoke a certain feeling from you. In the case of Creeping Death and Four Horseman, that feeling is anger. And anger is as valid a feeling as any.

Its interesting to see how the lyrical themes have developed across the albums.
KEA - Standard teenage kicks/ rebellion
RTL - Dealing with the "bigger" issues in an obvious way (eg.FFWF, RTL)
MOP - Again issues, but this time much more subtle (Leper Messiah/Disposable Heroes)
AJFA - Again dealing with a theme, but with greater depth.
And then post-Black album, the albums lose the one set theme and are on a mixture of subjects.
Then finally St. Anger, pure undilated anger - ultimately shallow as a result.
Baodegoth
06-11-2004, 05:55 PM
I'll try to sum up the lyrics in the albums:
Kill 'Em All: i don't really think he talks about something important or personal, just kick some a**.
Ride The Lightning: i think it's a mix between personal feelings(fade to black) and the problems in the world(ride the lightning).
Master Of Puppets: this is much more personal than the last two(mop- where he talks about addiction or sanatarium) he also mentions the problems in the world.
...And Justice For All: well this is the "f*** the world" album, the "f*** the system" album..all the lyrics (except dyers eve where he talks about his childhood) are related to justice/injustice.
Metallica(Black Album): this is where james starts getting more personal(the unforgiven; nothing else matters;the god that failed).
Load: imo it's the album with the best lyrics...except for "ain't my bitch" and "ronnie" it's all personal.
Reload: again the mix between the personal lyrics and his view on the world(i think low man's lyric is about someone that wants to forget his past but it's no longer accepted, though i'm not sure).
St. Anger: probably the most personal album...everyone wrote lyrics on this one but they're all very personal.
And that's it, i know it's not much of a review on their lyrics but it's just my opinion...hope it helps!

Going back ages and against what I just said.
Good metaphor: Sweet Amber. about the addictive qualities of Alcohol (Beer).
motorbreath53: Dyers Eve is about James's parents and his anger towards them for holding him back and restricting him.

lightning, puppets and justice delt with many things, from the end of the world ( fight fire with fire, blackened) to politics (title track to justice) and of course personal stuff like dyers eve. also, lightning was really focused on death. fade to black, trapped under ice, creeping death lol.

i mean, st. anger is not my favorite album but I really like what all the songs stand for on that album..just because they are all so very personal and kind of like therapy for them in the tough times..

 lol thanks! :D
BTW, Kill 'Em All is probably the second best album of all (second only to And Justice For All).
Phantom Lord shaped the way Metallica would sound up 'till the black album, at which point they started to suck.
Also, I LOVE SQUIRREL OMG :amaze:

i showed my sister Master of puppets and she thought it was about S M,(sado masochism)

Despite having finally heard the whole of KEA, I still don't really like it.
Phantom Lord is however a great song - best on the album.
Furthermore AJFA reigns supreme, though I still think they should remix it like Dave's doing to all the Megadeth albums.

All you people with 2 or 3 exams left piss me off. I haven't even started mine yet. I would type more, but I'm tired after wading through some 5 pages of spam.
Ouch..
Edit: Oh yeah, and about the albums, ...And Justice for All brings in the greatest political metal type lyrics I've heard (minus maybe Rage :p ), and seeing as how it's just the greatest album every, I think that points to the fact that the lyrics have to be good :)
Squirrel

^ true, they started to deal with a lot more world issues and people issues then
...and justice for all ( the song ) concentrating on bribery, unfair justice, unfair legal systems etc
Blackened dealing with brink of wars and the end they'll bring.
One focusing on moral issues like is it ever fair to end someones life, and also - is he actually alive in that state ?.
All round its more of a mature album - it really had some effort put in and they werent empty lyrics, they actually meant something.
As far as lyrics go i think that Load and Reaload had some GREAT ones, also some on St. Anger if you read between the lines are quite good - the un-named feeling, Sweet Amber and Frantic especialy.

I think its this next album (after st. anger) and they'll call it a day. It will prolly be somehting epic like black album, possible like reload....but i doubt it will go back tothe old days...i thin metallica want to put those days behind if i'm not mistaken.
Do think that after 20 years they'll call it a day? They might release a greatest hits album but whats the point? Nearly all their songs are good.
Do you think James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich will want to call it a day.
i reckon their best has been and gone but their still good and i reckon they'll keep going for a bit longer. Well, Hetfield and Ulrich and probably Hammett will. How can they not stop? Fave album:Master of Puppets.
