Round here its maybe £50 (if you get the old version). That's about $90... I'd buy Cliff instead.

^Don't know, don't care, its on a metallica album, and if mustaine claims he wrote it, he wasn't in a hurry to put it on an album. The best thing about leper messiah is the main riff, not the one in the verse, but the one after he says "Bow to Leper messiah!" which is the second best part.

You know what, People who say Hammet is overated or sucks or lacks emotion or plays too fast piss me off. Cause if you asked them to write a solo (note: write as in create) a kickass solo they STFU. To me putting emotion on your guitar is giving me an image in my head or bringing me somewhere. Most of hammets solos do just that for me. + his solos are very recongnizable.

Good 'tallica stuff to learn is
Welcome home [sanitarium] - the first solo is the easiest and they get harder as the song goes on
Fade to black - has a fairly easy solo at the beggining
Master of puppets - Not as easy as the first to but the clean part before and james's is solo part are relativly easy just keep practising em but when kirk comes in it is very difficult to keep up with him
The unforgiven - again i think this solo isnt too easy but worth a try

we can't choose a favourite solo. there are too much of them. all of the albums have specific accents in solos.
like Kill em all has got a mad shredding, RTL is more melodic. MOP also melodic, AJFA too fast. 1991-1997 albums got lots of bluesy stuff. so it's not that easy to pick up one.
for me actually it's kill em all solos. they're so sick ! + they're hard. i can't play any solo of that album except last 4 horsemen solo. (probably it's because i suck !)
nevertheless, it's still hard to decide

Are Metallica religious? Ive noticed religious themes in alot of their songs, but then there's The God that Failed which is hardly religious. I'd say they were sort of anti-religion, they believe that a God exists but they don't like it, or something like that. I can't really word it properly. Wot do you guys think?

I know I'm probably a bit slow but...
Are Metallica religious? Ive noticed religious themes in alot of their songs, but then there's The God that Failed which is hardly religious. I'd say they were sort of anti-religion, they believe that a God exists but they don't like it, or something like that. I can't really word it properly. Wot do you guys think?
lots of people write songs about religion. Few of them are religious. Metalica are not.

IMO ...And Justice for All is one of, or Metallica's best album, but what would have become of it if Cliff wouldn't have died. Do you think that we would have gotten great songs like Blackened, One, To Live is to Die(not so sure about that one since its a tribute to him) or Dyers Eve?

I have to say that one of my favourite solo's is the one in Harvester of Sorrow, just the short one, it sounds so good and fits the context of the song so well.

looking back at page 114 someone said slayer wasnt the fastest solo, have you heard angel of death, total guitar didnt even bother typing it out because it is that fast.
Kerry king who has played for years upon years who wrote the solo even says he has to warm up for hours before that and they have to play the song last on the stage show because it cramps his hand up and he cannot play guitar after playing that solo. And he cant even play it to full speed and perfectly.

Just because Kerry is so bad he cant even play his own "fast" solos, it doesnt mean theyre the FASTEST at all. You compare any of the proper shredders to King and you'll see he is actually poor.

hey people...new to the thread,
my fav album song has to be either fade to black or master of puppets.
One is excellent live especially on the S&M album, the orchestra adds so much more power to the song and kirks solos in it dont seem to sound as hollow as they do on the recorded version.
Although St. Anger isnt their best album it doesnt meen it is crap, i dont like to compare the albums from their diferant eras, as far as i am concerned there is the kill 'em all to black album metallica, the load and reload metallica and the St' Anger metallica. it isnt really fair to compare from those and say that one is crap coz it doesnt match up to earlier stuff coz its quite simply a differant style...i hate it when people say that load and reload are crap coz they really rnt, there is sum great songs on those albums (memory remains, mama said, unforgiven 2until it sleeps...need i go on?)

What an awesome idea to discuss and pay tribute to the masters of metal, the people, the band the music, the phenomenon that is Metallica, as said best by Chris Ingram the author of the book Nothing Else Matters: The Stories Behind The Biggest Songs. I just finished the book and its a must read/have for any Metallica junkie. What do I love about Metallica, the speed, the volume, the lyrics, the simplicity that is at the same time complicated and extremely technical. The time changes, the choruses with melody lines, the intensity of Hetfield, the over the top solos of Kirk, the mouth of Lars, a publicists dream, Robert Trujillo is awesome and Newested did his part, but neither rival Burton the original. Metallica's story is a great one! My favorite Metallica song, having to choose makes me want to cry haha. The black album housed some of the greatest music the world had ever seen and then the load reload era picked up new fans as well and lost some of the old ones. My Favorite Metallica album is probably Master of Puppets, with a manipulation theme or undertone if you will, it is a lyrical/musical masterpeice in the opinion of this guitarist anyway. From the layered spanish guitars on the intro of Battery, to the ferocity of the thrashing guitars and whispered title in Damage Inc. This album is a 100% *** kicker. Okay I have decided ill give ya my favorite from each album and you can tell me what you think.
The Four Horsemen/Kill 'Em All
For Whom the Bell Tolls/Ride the Lightning
Master of Puppets/ Master of Puppets (don't worry Battery gets its props later)
One/Ride the Lightning
Sad But True or Wherever I My Roam/Metallica (aka Black Album)
Ain't My Bitch/Load
The Memory Remains/Re-Load
Crashcourse in Brain Surgery/Garage Days Re-Visited
So What/Garage Inc.
Battery/ S&M (This album is the most powerful music you'll ever hear in your life, the orchestra and the full on amplification is just for lack of words F*ckin Awesome.)
The Unnamed Feeling or Frantic/St. Anger
Well I guess i have taken up enough room on this post. I want to make it clear that I am not knocking anything Metallica has ever made, I love every song on every album just about, these are simply the ones that get themost airtime on my axe, and in my stereo. Hit me back and lets talk some Metallica. I haven't broken the surface on the amount of time i could talk about these guys!! Until next time ill end in Master of Puppets fashion......with Psychotic lughter hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

I definately understand what you are saying about Trujillo, he is without a doubt talented, but have you seen them live since hes been with them, he kind of seems alienated on stage. I know that No one did it like clliff, and my era knew Jason Newsted as a face of metallica, and I think that the reason St. Anger had such bad reviews is becasue everybody thought that metallica had faltered and failed, and then they didnt so everyone decided they couldnt be the same so it they must suck because of the changes that the band and its members had been through. Hetfield's stint in rehab, Newsted's departure, Trujillo's induction, and album written completely in odd tunings with no solos and a different vocal styling by James, led to discomfort for some. But people like you and i agree that you can compare now to then because it was a different time with different people and a different Metallica, They are doing there thing and you gotta respect them for it. St. Anger isn't my favorite, but its not crap either.

hold the pick right
ur pick should be under ur thumb like it's gotta fit perfectly and use ur index finger so the pick wont fall , and just let the edge go out(obviously)
try looking for some pics at google of how to hold ur pick right cos it's hard to explain and just practice man it takes a while to get good a picking and some songs are tricky like battery or blackened :thumb:

Jaymz said it himself that he was writing it as if it was a story so i'm not sure how you see it doesn't run together but it's all good.
A reason why it may be hard to follow is because of the changes in his aging. You just have to catch on that he's talking about himself as the little boy, then later he'll say he's talking about being a young man, then later a man and older man. He's picking out parts of his life but they're not random, they all go in order.
If you're talking about your whole life it's not going to all blend perfectly together like what happened in one day, but it should still make sense all the same. this is just my opinion of course.

.. And Justice For All is one of the best albums ever. And the best one done by Metallica.
"One" is nothing shorter than Metallica's opus.

It pisses me off when people come here and bash metallica, because they know they'll get flamed. and then I'll get banned, if you think it's old than leave, just don't come. I don't wanna hear it no more.
Okay...I'm really getting into guitar (like...I breath it) and I was wondering what Metallica song would be nice to start out on so I could really get kickin'. So far I know a little bit of Fade to Black and Master of Puppets, but they get frustrating, so I was looking for a bit of advice. This is for guitar too, so any help would be appreciated. :thumb: :) :thumb:

Well im no super guitarist, only been playing for 9 monthes but id say sandman is easy and fun o play. If yer ona those dumb@$$es who say "black album killed metallica" then try one, or battery. MOP is hard for me to keep up with right now. Fade to Black id say is a little tougher than sandman, or battery. One is a difficult song near the end when it picks up the pace and does the kick@$$ solo that i can almost do :D . But the intro and first two solos arent too difficult. Its good yer starting out with Metallica for they improve yer playing. I was an idiot and started out with easy three chord blink182 songs and was going nowhere.

I have a question...
Does anyone have any tips on how to do quick palm muting? The reason i post here is because the songs that have real fast palm muting im working on are One and Master of Puppets. If anyone has any tips like how to hold to pick to make it the easiest and tips to prevent any bad habits, that'd be killer.
for Master of puppets you got to do down strokes only, trust me it's tuff it took me awhile to get it down!but perfect practice makes perfect

Metallica was in Michigan a few months ago I think (or maybe it's in a few months) but I know I can't make it. If it's coming up, I know I'll be with my school concert band in Mackinac
