Ibanez BTB, for the price it doesn't get better.

not especially fantastic for the price, no

Go with a yamaha or an Ibanez (hint, the Ibanez SR300DX, or something like that)

or even better, go for what chris said

uh.. no offense dude, but how can you be an intemediate player if youve been jamming around on a bass every so often for only a year and not even own one???

you might want to tell people what music you play and what tone you are looking for as well..

also, that squier is not worth getting if you want an intermediate bass.. reviews for a gsr 200 may be good, but that doesnt mean its of the highest quality :smoke:

What kind of music do you play? What kind of tone(s) do you want?

If you're still interested in the Elite 5, I have one and love it. It feels great and sounds awesome through my GK rig. The PUPs aren't ballsy and lack low end and growl, though...it's mainly twangy highs, but you can dial in sweet tones with your amp if you use it right. It really is a great bass, though. I highly reccomended that.

I'd also go with what Chris said. The Ibanez BTB is wicked good for the price. One of the best in the range.

^ he lives up my street, iplay it all the time, its not just "every so often"i never had the need to get one cuzi had his to play, but now im in this band (the idea is that everyone is actually half decent at playing guitar drums and bass so we switch around) so i need bass, i play more modern rock, staind, breaking benjamin, chevelle stuff like that, and i want a real warm tone

Ew, no...I love Fender J's but the Fender Jazz V's suck. Their B strings are floppy as hell and the neck isn't comfortable at all, in my opinion.

I still say Ibanez BTB or Schecter Stiletto Elite/Custom 5, although I think Elite would fare you better.

If you want the Breaking Benjamin tone, you'll need a Wariwkc 5-er. I'm pretty sure their bassist plays a Warwick Streamer Stage I (Stage II, maybe?) 5 string...regardless whether it's a Stage I or II, those are expensive ($1,200+) but you'll get the tone, I guess...Warwicks are phenomenal.

i like the necks and the floppy B can be sloved by putting a nice .135 or .140 on it

^ Yeah I was thoroughly disappointed when I tried one a few months back...they look really awkward, too. They definitely loose that "Jazz sensuality" in their looks. They look so bulky and unnatural as 5 stringers.

SX are horrible basses.

Squiers are meh.

Fender B strings are just as floppy as any other 34" string, so...

Which is why I stay away from 34" scale. :thumb:
