Okay so I finally found the schecter exotic i wanted. The only problem is that it's in Colorado and i'm in Kentucky... no problem my grandmother who lives in Colorado is going to visit in a few days and bring me the bass. she's going to drive the whole way and I need to know if there's anything I need to do to protect the bass on the journey especially with the altitude changes and all.
1. Loosen strings

like ebe9 said, loosen your strings, and if you can get a case for it. otherwise bubble wrap it and then tape it all together. also, have her put in a spot where it wont slide around, at all.

Just be careful about what else is coming back. Don't let it slide around, don't knock it around, etc... just common sense. Keep it from physical damage.

thing to remember is that its a bass guitar. A very sturdy instrument indeed. I understand that you don't want damage to it, but just saying don't freak out it'll be ok. but yeah travel it in the case it'll be cool

Just put in were normally the feet of the second person in the front are.. No big deal if it's in a gigbag. It won't get hurt or something..

Turn all the tuning pegs so that they are flat and facing the same way, makes it easier to pack and they won't go snapping off if it gets bumped around.
Common sense, I'd like to hope.

don't loosen the strings to the point that your neck bends really far out of its normal bow... there was an article in this months bassplayer magazine about how bad loosening your strings for a period of time can warp a neck.
