if the bridge bit is slightly slanted, wouldn't that mean that the frets would need to be fanned or else the intonation would be off?

Guitars do it all the time, the stop-piece? Is what matters and that is straight

If your scrolling down the picture, it looks good till ya get to the pickups, but the body shape at the bottom just doesnt do it for me, and the way the bridge sticks out from the body is disgusting!

that doesnt change the fact that its ugly.
and to the person with the intonation question, look at the saddles on your bass. the smaller strings should be slightly forwards of the larger strings, if its intonated properly.

the stop piece looks like it's intonated properly, the B is "longer" than the high C. granted, it is ugly, i'd still like to pick it up; not really to play but to just retain it's value.

I'll throw out my typical CT rant:
How many of you CT fanboys have ever played, or even been in the same room as a CT bass? How many of you are simply fans because of CT's association with Les Claypool?

Never played one, but I have been in the same room as one and heard one played right in front of me. I'm not really a fan of CT's so the second question does not apply to me. :p

I don't like Les Claypool and I'm not overly fond of CTs. But that one is alright looking, except for the headstock. I like the wood, if nothing else.

Some Carl Thompsons are decent though. Les Claypool has an amazing fretted 4. Gorgeous tone. :smoke:

actually the only thing i really like about them is the head stocks. I love claypool but usually hate his tone so i don't really want a bass that he's overly associated with.
I reckon thats CT's curse and blessing is the constant claypool associations

Also, I think they sound good, so that's a reason for liking them.
You can use your same rant for when people get excited about anything any company puts out:
examples
Warwick $$ - people wanted it just by looking at it. Maybe they've played Warwicks before, but never this one, never heard this one, so why not question them on that?
Fender Jaguar - people wanted it before they even had a picture of it up on the website! Why not rant about that one?

I like the look of it, but can't comment on how it would play. Judging by Les' Antipop tone, CT must have got something right with the Antimatter bass.
Bugger it, I'll just have my views dismissed as that of a Claypool fanboy

the same reason someone would want a ferrari. you've heard them, watched them, have not heard anything all too disturbing about them, they're exotic, thus people will be fans of them. you don't have to own one to like it

As nice as the originally posted bass, and the 2 above my post probably sound, they are probably some of the ugliest looking instruments I've ever seen.
If I was going to spend a year's salary on a bass, I'd want it to be at least remotely visually appealing. The basses I've seen in this thread fail to invoke any feelings in me, other than pity for those who are attracted to these horrendous looking instruments.

I thought the Antipop bass or whatever was his favourite, and he used that on most occasions?
As for the Jerzy Drozd ad, he probably designed it himself. He's from Spain, I think, and his English isn't superb.

Yeah, I was taking the piss.
If I owned a high end custom bass company, and I wanted to advertise to say, the Germans, I'd at least get a German speaker to read it and make sure it was decent in terms of grammer and spelling.
