I've had my kit for two weeks now and I love it (Pearl Export Series) but my crash cymbal already has dents in it. Obviously I am hitting it wrong so I am just asking how I am supposed to hit the cymbal w/ the stick.

What cymbols do you have?

Don't go THROUGH the cymbal.

Either "sweep" the cymbal or pull back immediately after hitting it (or perform the free stroke).

Thanks crazyguy...They are Zildjians. I wanted Paistes but I didn't have enough money.

See, you need to elaborate on that more than just Zildjian...cause if you're denting Z-Customs you need to stop playing drums and take up body building. ZBT's and paper thin splashes are another story.

ZBT's?

nonsense!

Yeah wow, go easy on the cymbal man. Tap it. It'll make the noise you want. If you're a "heavy hitter" just tap it harder. Don't follow through like in tennis/hockey/golf.

Well if they are zildjians they shouldnt be denting to easy.
Get control over your sticks, and dont hit to hard etc.

There's a handy little picture guide thing on the Paiste website. Hang on a tick....

Check out Number 1, entitled "Correct Cymbal Usage". It may be on the Paiste site, but it holds true for all cymbals. Those Paiste fellows are kind.

You're welcome. No cymbal should suffer needlessly.
