While preparing songs for a potential new record, Dave Mustaine states that Megadeth has parted ways with bassist Jimmy MacDonough and hired James LoMenzo on Feb. 10, 2006.
"I want to thank Jimmy for everything and wish him the best in his future endeavors. He is knowledgable, and a good enough bassist to run his own outfit and I look forward to what he does musically."
Mustaine also mentions, "It was recommeded I check out James LoMenzo by a friend, because I was uncertain which direction I wanted to take with the bassist, prior to starting the next record and everything just clicked."
LoMenzo (formerly with Black Label Society, David Lee Roth, etc.) will play the Dubai Desert Rock Festival with Megadeth on March 16th, 2006.

I lost all faith in Megadeth when Dave started replacing everyone. The only reason I got "The System has Failed" was because David Ellefeson was on it, then Dave got rid of him.

Ellefson wasn't on The System Has Failed.
Also, Mustaine is the only member of Megadeth that matters, for the most part. Marty Freidman was the only one who could perfectly pull off the Tornado Of Souls solo, everyone else since either screws it up or changes it to make it easier to play. He is a fantastic guitarist.
Chris Poland is also a great guitarist. He played some of the stuff on The System Has Failed, and was also the guitarist on Killing Is My Business, also on Peace Sells, if I remember correctly. I'm a big fan of his work. If you've heard Ohm, he plays great in that fusion band of his.
Nick Menza was probably the best drummer they had over the years, though Gar Samuelson was pretty good.
But as you can, I can just keep naming people who have been in the band, and they all contributed the same amount to writing the albums, very little. It's pretty much all Dave Mustaine. So really, who cares who else is in the band?
Unless of course they were to bring back Al Pitrelli and Jimmy DeGrasso, while the latter wasn't a bad drummer, Pitrelli was just sloppy on guitar... this is, of course, if I am thinking of the right guy.

The fact of the matter is, friedman is a great guitarist, but the guy is a tool, he never "looked metal". He only got off on playing solo's and you can see that from his live performance. James Mcdonough was good, but he wasn't for Megadeth, when i saw them last year he just didnt have the stage presence, neither does glen drover, but shawn is an awesome drummer and he played everything awesomely. As for past band members, Megadeth have had heaps of line up changes, but they have perceviered. Mustaine is a genious. And i wish Gar hadn't died, becuase if he was in Megadeth now, his drumming would be phenominal. Al is a great guitarist, although he didn't pull off all the solo's 100% marty's way.
I'm looking forward to see how Lomenzo goes with Deth, he is a cool bass player.

I love everything about Megadeth. Marty was easily their best guitarist, and Nick Menza kicked too much *** to comprehend. Rust in Peace is my favorite metal album of the 90s.

I hate Dave Mustaine with a passion. But I really like their new stuff alot better than the old stuff.

Mustaine is a genious.
Hell yes :thumb:
On top of that he's actually a very nice guy. I hung out with him and the rest of the band (during the System Has Failed tour) after a show here in Washington, and he was very nice, respectful and appreciative of the fans that were backstage with them.

Dave Mustaine was the original lead guitar player of Metallica. He was fired for various reasons (that seem to change drastically depending on which website you're looking at  ). He went on to form Megadeth, which in my opinion is a band that has always been light years beyond Metallica in terms of musical composition, skill, originality and overall enjoyability.

The most popular reason for Mustaine getting fired from Metallica is his drunken behavior. I think the one that got him kicked out was punching Hetfield in the face while drunk.
Anyway, my original point was that it does not matter who else is in the band, Ellefson, Friedman, Poland, Pitrelli, Menza, DeGrasso, or any other members, it has always been Mustaine writing most, if not all, the music. The other guys just play it.
And I agree with Edge, Megadeth is far better than Metallica.
Mustaine > Hammett

Metallica are honestly a pretty crap band. I was obsessed with them when i was younger, but having heared what i have now from various artists i just don't see whats so great about them, their riffs suck. The only good album IMO is Kill em All, and megadeth do a way better version of four horsemen (Mechanix)

Which is the album I constantly refer to other people as "Metallica's Dave Mustaine Cover Album"
EDIT: And Madthumbs, to be fair, Metallica actually do a crappy version of Megadeth's Mechanix and call it Four Horsement. That's actually legitemate because the song was originally called Mechanix, and then reworked after Mustaine left the band.

Yeah i know, just didn't think to get too technical, and yes the dave mustaine cover album is a great name for it. a lot of people don't like his vocals at first, but he is way better than James. And i can't press enough how much mustaines riffs cain the **** out of anything that has ever come from metallica.

Actually Four Horsemen is a slower version of Mechanix.
They made it with Mustaine but slowed it down and changed the solo when Kirk came in.
Btw Lomenzo knows metal bass better than most.

I would go and say Metallica sucks and all that, Dave is good and James is good. James has a better voice for the most part. Dave can write songs better sometimes, I think they are pretty even in skill. Im not sure what to think about Kirk vs. Dave. They are both great guitarists. Cliff is a good bassist when he tried and had a one of a kind out-look on everything. Im not too sure about the bassists from Megadeth, Im sure they are pretty good also. Lars well...............Ill leave it at that.
btw, Dave can sing pretty good when he isnt doing the trollish thing. Umm I thinking of the chorus of Symphony of Destruction when he sings the last really destruction.

Megadeth kick the *** off of metallica. Dave is a better guitarist the kirk hammet by a long shot. maybe not james...but Marty was better than both back in his days. what I'm really trying to say is Megadeth are better.

Hey, woah, hey, woah. Hey. Woah.
Enough Metallica bashing, mmkay? Megadeth is easily the better of the two in the long run, but you can't deny the influence and deadly heaviness of albums like Master of Puppets or Justice. And IMO, Mechanix sounds like 18 different kinds of *** recorded into one song. The Four Horsemen has a much better solo section, and the outro Kirk's solo is also a winner, if not as fast as Mustaine.
And the funny thing is, of the three albums Cliff was with the band, the 'Dave Mustaine Cover Album' is the worst. :smoke:
