hey!

I was just wondering whether this was healthy or not, I just sat through a 2 hour film (sin city, what a great film) with a practice pad, well not actually a practice pad a cookery book, in front of me doing parradiddles straight from start of the film to the end of the film.

Now im not sure if thats healthy or some kind of obsession, by the end of it I ddidnt even realise I was doing them became like second nature like shuveling food into my gob. :naughty:

Wow, you did paradiddles for two hours? Good thing you made a thread about it. Now I think you're awesome.

I know its hella boring, but if you watch a good film, just sit down tune out and its amazing how you dont even think about it, you just get down to it. I know parradidles so well now. Brilliant way to burn it into your head.

Didnt you hear constant tapping?

If I were to do it id do it with a towel to minimize noise so I could watc

I had a pillow case over the book to help, but once im set I can zone out of anything, youd have to poke me to check I was even still breathing.

I practice paradiddles on pillows, then when your playing them on a drum or pad theyre much easier to speed up, and or control since its a harder surface.

It's also an incorrect way to practice. When practiceing, you don't want any distractions. It's 50% mental and 50% physical. If you take away the mental part by distracting yourself, you're not learning as well. You should have done 2hrs straight with a metronome in a place with no distractions:thumb:

hahaha sounds like something id do, but if i did paradiddles through a whole movie my wife would have slapped me before the title of the movie came up....maybe i should watch alone.....haha....shes always stealing my sticks from me when i tap on stuff. luckily my band practices at our guiatarists house. My drums are safe

and the reverse is true as well. when you're watching sin city, it's such a great film you don't want any distractions.

Yeah the threadstarter just wasted a huge amount of time. If you don't practice with a metronome and with 100% concentration you're going to develop bad habits and your chops are going to be sloppy. Just like Josiah says, practice doesn't make perfect it only makes permanent, and you're going to have permanent sloppy hands if you practice like that. 20 minutes of dedicated 100% focus practice in 10 million times better than 2 hours of sloppyness.
