So in the middle of a show all of a sudden my beater falls from the top of my pedal.

I've got an Iron Cobra, so naturally one would expect some supreme ***-kickage and an even more supreme lack of falling apart. It happened twice that show, regardless of me tightening the thing to all death, and happened twice just now with me just playing around on the set and tightening EVERYTHING to make sure I wasn't just being dumb.

So either my foot's a monster on the pedal or the screw casing is stripped, because when the beater falls out, the screw is still in its casing; it's like the beater just hops out the top with the screw still in its casing.

Anyone else have this problem with IC's or have a solution?

i've had the problem before but never in a row. Normally i just tighten it back on (or the tension rods holding in the rod of the pedal) and it's good for anotehr few weeks/months. I've never had it happen continuously so really can't help you

Something sounds messed up with your pedal. My beater has come right out, but like LittlePound, I just tightened it and it went back to normal.

perhaps a striped drum screw thing (sorry dont know the technical term) you should try that, theyr like cheaper than your mom so its worth a try

Upon conversing with the instructions that came with my pedal, it seems there's a little mechanism to attach onto the very screw that keeps my beater into the pedal itself so that this very problem does not happen. Luckily that little piece is what came off awhile back and I still had a hold of it, so I have returned it to its rightful spot.

So perhaps the problem is solved, but I still find it strange that I had no trouble with it at all until the night of a show where it happened twice in an hour long set.

Yeah so turns out the stupid thing is still at it. I've tried so many different things. It's a double bass pedal (I don't have the second pedal hooked up but I do have the second beater on deck), and so I tried playing for a bit with the second beater disconnected, and it still fell off after a bit.

I then tried it with no balancer, but that failed too, so I tried ONE more time with everything tightened to hell. Still fell apart.

So then I did the tension on the spring all the way the other side of what it was on, and it still fell apart. Pretty upsetting for a pedal that has such a nice rep to fall apart on me! I checked out the beater, the screw, and the whole pedal itself and everything seems fine, so I'm really at a loss for what's going on.

You may have to call Tama's customer support line or something.

I sent them an email asking what kind of evil voodoo magic they instilled in my pedals for them to only act up at a big show after two years of me owning them and using them.

That is rediculous. I would never expect that to happen from a pedal like that. I would get Tama to send me another pedal.

Perhaps you could try buying a new beater. I have an Iron Cobra single pedal with a pearl 4-sided beater, and a while back the beater kept falling out of the pedal similar to what you are describing. I used to turn my beater to use its different sides during practicing a lot in order to find the perfect sound. By doing this, my beater became stripped and consequently fell out a lot. I dunno if this will help, but it couldn't hurt.

An IC doing what. I'd get that checked out by some pro.

i had that happen once with a friend's IC's that he let me use just because i wanted to take them on a test run to compare them to my pearls, and that exact same thing happened, and in a song where i used a pretty fair amout of double bass, but after the song i just tightened everything back up and have trusted nothing but my eliminators since, but if tightening doesn't work, go to anyone who u know u think of that can help u, and if that fails THEN call tama support AS A LAST RESORT
