So anti-flag has two new songs up on the first page you come to on their website. I actually like it alot. "the press corpse" is kinda poppy but not to the extent of rank n file or turncoat, its pretty good. the other song "state funeral" is fast and pretty hard, #2 sings on it. both of them are really different sounding than old anti-flag, but the new album is sounding like it will be way better than the terror state. So check it out and post what you think i guess.

Oh, my, god. They are so fu'cking cheeky.
Hypocricy #1: Preach anti-capitalism and then sign with RCA.
Hypocricy #2: In the lyrics of Press Corpse: Stab the people in the back for the corporate choice/Roll the propaganda out using The People’s Voice
They've stepped over a line. Isn't this exactly what they're doing? Stabbing their fans in the back and joining a large media company that's part of a corporate conglomerate? This is what is usually called 'twisting the knife in the back.'
State Funeral sounds like they are experimenting with pseudo-emo. Lyrics are meh. Pretty boring really.

They've sucked so bad for so long that I think most smart music fans will dismiss them as the epitome of everything that is wrong with punk these days.
They need to practice what they preach. They cannot, because they suck, and as the above poster clearly stated, they are hypocrits and they always have been.
I wish kids would smarten up and stop buying their records, simply because of their collective hypocrisy.
I've always thought they sucked really bad anyways. Their lyrics are a joke.

Annoyance #1: They are only lyrics which mean little, I for one would love to be on RCA making a good wad of money.
Annoyance #2: As above.
That being said I hate this band oh how so.

You don't preach anti-capitalism, it's not very hypocritical of you then, is it?

Bands make lyrics about killing people. Would it be hypocritical of them to not kill anyone and preach lyrics of death?

That depends. Anti-Flag not only preached anti-capitalism, they acted against it. I believe they took part in the anti-WTO Seattle actions, they started an independent record label, and other various protests etc., so signing with RCA makes them hypocrites. If a band preaching death to capitalists had a history of killing capitalists, and then they saved Rupert Murdoch's life, that would make them hypocrites.

Mature conversation about what? Who said anything immature? Mayhaps as non fans we shouldn't have tainted this thread with our opinions, but what could you expect?
Are you mad because your favorite band are a bunch of hypocrits?
Can you counter any of the points we made without trying to insult people?
If you cannot argue your points, then get the **** off these forums. People aren't stupid. Everyone knows when a little dumbass can't argue they resort to insults.
Whiny little dick.

Lol. I don't need or want money. I could leave home now and be able to stay alive till a ripe old age without having to take any job for longer than a week. And if/when I am in a band, I still won't sign with any capitalist labels, or charge more than a quid for shows.

Usually the venue has more say in ticket prices than the band.
There's also the idea that sacrificing your ideals to preach them to a larger audience is beneficial. i.e. You sign to a large corporate label though you hate corporations, but you do so to reach a larger audience so you can spread your message further, so tha the benefits out weigh the defecits.
Disliking the band doesn't bother me, but bitching about their hypocrisy is tiresome.

Yeah Rage tried the same lingo.
Tell me then, when Anti-Flag benefits from Ticketmaster, RCA and the whole kit and kaboodle, do they give the extra money to charity? Do they work to make their communities better with the money they make? Do they work harder to find venues that are closeminded to conglomerates like Ticketmaster?
No?
Lotsa bands do. They stick to their guns. The music reaches the audience whether a major is involved or not.
So don't run that jib. It's a pathetic excuse.

I don't see any accusations of Rage being hypocrites ever.
To the best of my knowledge they aren't living the high life in California either. I'll admit I'm not too knowledgeable, but I don't see them living these glamourous lives either. SO I'd say they aren't squandering the money either. If you can tell me where it is going for a fact I'll admit defeat to that argument. But saying they don't put it one place doesn't mean it's going somewhere else, and I've seen no evidence it's going to either.
That's bollocks. Before discovering mx I didn't know 90% if not more of the bands I listen to now. Why? I listened to the radio. A lot of people do. Signing to big labels gets you radio play, thus, more exposure. I work at a radio station and we play a lot of local bands and such, but that's not a common practice among all stations. Far from. I'm all for supporting the small bands, but if you can go big, why would you stay small? Just to keep the underground status? Yeah, that gets the message out well.

Look at Crass: They're probably the biggest punk band to stick to their principles and still reach a large audience. And most squat social centres will let you play for free, and entrance is always donation or free to those who can't pay.
I'll leave this thread now, because we dragged it too far away from the topic.
You can preach a message all you want to as many people as you want, but at some point someone has to actually put it into practice.

I've never been to a venue that offers any other option.
If you know of some in the Phoenix area let me know because it's easier to get people to come to free shows. :)

Just about any squat that has political agenda will let bands play for free. Sometimes you get a big gathering of bands breaking into warehouses (just for a day or two) to play a concert and then tidy up and leave. That's how many raves happen as well.
