I've been pondering having my name inlayed in the headstock of my bass, is this something I could do myself or should I get a professional to take care of it?

It probably is possible to do it yourself, but it's quite risky unless you are very very competent at that sort of thing. Personally I 'd say get a pro to do it, that way the chance of it being done wrongly/badly is minimized. Plus if it is done badly you can get them to fix it.
Intersting idea though.

Def go professional unless you are very handy with tools and are very farmiliar with the process... other wise many mistakes can and probably will happen. So unless its a cheap bass you dont care about, get a pro.

This will give the bass a resale value of next to nothing.
...who cares? if he wants to do that, i sincerely doubt he'd have plans of selling it...

I would have to say, get a pro to do it. I'm not saying that because I do it, I'm saying that because, one little slip up and you could ruin a good instrument.

very few people in reality find that they buy a guitar only to sell it. How do you think the geeks on talkbass got their collections?
Back to thread, I think it's a great idea getting your name engraved or inlayed on the headstock, infact, its something I wouldn't mind having done to one of my basses.

Seriously, this bass has a next to nothing resale value. Custom defretted, changed electronics, not even the original paint(and I'm about to change that with something clear to have a natural wood thing going). It's still my favorite bass, though, and I'm not planning on selling it at all. It's worth nothing, anyhow.
But yeah, I'm probably gonna get a pro to do it. I don't really know where to find one.. there's always.. *cough*Mørch*coughcough*, but that would rip my poor wallet in pieces and shove it down my throat.
