View Full Version : EGAD! A Shiny New Recording?

Yes, it's true. I've spent forever on this one, so now y'all can take a listen. I think I'll do another mix after I get some feedback and some distance from it, because right now I've heard it a few too many times.

It features my frankenstein jazz bass, my violin, and some other stuff.

So yeah, it needs a title, so suggest some.

Go!

When I first read the thread title, I thought you made a recording with your bass tuned to EGAD.

As for the song... wow. The only real criticism that I have for it is that I'm not a huge fan of the "drums", but I got so distracted by the rest of the song that I forgot about them. You get as many thumbs as I have up.

Although I'd like to hear the songs more bass orientated :p

Hurrah for soundclick.. great work on the song by the way.

Hehehe, my all-bass cover of Blue Moon is #11 today on the Jazz Covers chart.

Lisa, if you wern't already married to your work, I'd ask you.

Great job. Your melodies are kick-arse. Plus, you're one of the few people on this site with GOOD sound quality.

MAKE MORE.

Cool song, there are some nice riffs in there.

As for the title, I thinkl it would need something with an oriental feel or something.

Really good stuff. The only thing that puts me off is the rhythmic "thud" that is slightly off-beat and makes it sounds like I'm listening to a bad LP. That is just preference, of course, but it kind of ruins the whole thing for me. :) Sorry.

Me likes, and I don;t have amuch of a rpoblem with the drums per-sé, but either you should make everything else louder, or make the drums quieter.
But thats damm good work, and you put it together really well. :thumb:

Also, did you do the art work (square eye) yourself?

No, I did the singing, played some synth stuff and some of the keys myself too. There's not near as many loops in this one as the last.

caps_lock: an off-beat "rhythmic thud"? I guess I don't really know what part you mean...?

Polyamorous: nah, I just found the picture and did a bit of tweaking, it's someone else's.

Crudd-Bucket: There's bass through pretty much the whole song. I don't really think it's much different than when people post recordings of their band.

Sade: these stupid things take me way too long...who knows when I'll have time to write another? :(

thanks for listening...

very nice, i liked that a lot. i like the approch you took with the bass and the violin together, and not having some outrageous annoying slap line in there. great job.

Is it your own vocal work? And very nice quality on the piano, those are a pain to record.

i think she said they were keys, as in a keyboard, which is easy to record with good quality :thumb:

The first "thud" comes almost exactly at 1:21 for the first time, and goes on for pretty much the rest of the song, around the twelfth 16th in every measure. In the quiet part after 3:00 it's more frequent and more noticeable. It's not a bass drum and it's not a snare drum - what is it? It sounds almost exactly like the disc is scratchy, and it annoys me very much. Dunno why. :) Noone else seems to bother, which is pretty strange.

And for Irish-

It's "sort of" a keyboard- I literally type the notes, it's more like a digital synth I guess.

That was pretty cool. I really like the sound of your violin in the beginning. It sounds like you're really far away. I didn't like the drums that went along with that though.

I also liked how at some points the violin seems to overlap itself, it made for a very cool effect. That was you singing? Nice voice, guess those semesters in Aural Skills paid off, eh? :p

My only beef witht he song were those drums in the beginning, but overall great job. I really dug it.:)

I think I'll take that as a compliment, and tell my voice to stay out of alleys and the unlit corners of the park!

I liked your beat it was very moving. I just don't like the tone drums at the little bit from 16-32 secs. I'd most likely like it a lot more if it was just your violin by itself. :)

Sadly my mac is 5 now, so I had to buy GB. Not only that, but it has trouble running 30 tracks at once so I had to bounce down a few times to cut down on the lag. :-/

I sort of feel like your music is better than most of the crap on the radio. At least I'd listen to it. Um, also, you have a really nice voice. You should really make more music, however I get that it's time consuming.

Fav part, the banjo sounding thing near the end.

and interesting side note, the first time I heard it, there was a recording of some live band my music theory teacher gave us playing underneith your music. It synced up so nicely that I thought it was part of your song. Kinda sounded cool, however I really like the clean-ness of just yours better.

ima sucka for a off beat drums n a violin, liked the way it was quite direct but still 'swarve' ie 'kept its distance'
i think when a songs both subtle and direct it really creates a sorta 'funtional envelope'.
