Bass forum, it's been awhile. Oh, how I've missed thee.

Anywho, my local guitar shop has something used in, finally. It's a 5 string Ibanez Sound Gear. I'm not sure of the specific model, but I'll try to find that out, as I'm sure it helps. It's gorgeous. Dark, natural finish. My bass teacher commented on it saying it looked like a Warwick. He says it sounds great too, however I haven't played it plugged in. The pickups are humbuckers. I was told they're good, but don't know what brand or anything. I'll try to figure out some more of the unknowns at my lesson this Friday. It's only $335, which to me seems like a good price for a nice looking 5 string bass, regardless.

I think I have enough for it, and may be interested in buying it. Feedback would help and be appreciated though. Also, any ways to convince my dad that someone who's only been playing bass for 5 months could possibly need a new bass would be great. I've made sure to tell him about the addition of a 5th string for the added range, and that different basses produce different kinds of sounds.

The more I think about it, the more I really want this bass. It's so nice looking, and I bet it sounds fantastic. And only $335. What does everyone else think?

I'm not sure what Ibanez you're talking about, but I own an SR myself, and am very happy with it. Ibanez make a very solid bass, and it's hard to argue with $335 for any decent instrument.

Have you checked their website to see if it might be one of the models they currently have in production?

That might be of some help.

Sounds to me like an SR505

i dont think they are humbuckers per se, just soapbars

I did look at the Ibanez site, and couldn't find one similar to this one. I'm thinking it's a few years old and they just don't have a picture of this model on the site.

I only say humbuckers because I'm pretty sure that's what my bass instructor says. If I was going to buy it, I'd ask for more details and stuff. Maybe I'll reserve it this Friday. Let's hope.

Wow, after a quick google search, that might just be it. That looks a lot like it.

I think we've made a positive ID. Thank you very much.

Well, I just bought it. It's awesome so far. It's actually not the SR485. It's the SR495. I'm not sure of all of the differences, but I'm officially starting my research now.

Everything about it is great. The sound is nice, the look is even nicer, and the price was great. $335, and it came with a hardshell case. It's got a little scratch by the neck pick-up, but it's still beautiful.

Good luck convincing your dad about getting a bass after 5 months, I have been playing about 26 months and I have trouble.

Ok, well I'm going to have to bump this again. For the sake of pictures.

Ah-ha. I am quite the fan of Ibanez products, after owning the ones I have. They make quality stuff.
