Issue #1: Alien Ant Farm

Hmm, I guess this is an extreme version of Expanding Your Tastes. I give you a band that has received a bad rep or just a band that you'd never think twice about actually giving a chance to and you open your mind and check them out.

First band, Alien Ant Farm. Alien Ant Farm got a bad rep from the moment they came onto the scene in 2000/2001 with their hit, "Smooth Criminal," a cover of the Michael Jackson song. Immediately people trashed the band for not writing their own songs and destroying the original song. So when they released their second album truANT in 2003, I'm sure most of you didn't even know they were still around or had a second album and if you did, I doubt you checked it out. Well, truANT is one of my favorite CDs of all time. It's an ecletic mix of alternative and hard rock littered with pop hooks, spectacular bass and even some remainders of the heavy sound of their first CD ANThology.

Well friends, it's time for you step up and see if you're man enough to listen to some Alien Ant Farm with an open mind. Hopefully you'll realize the band's full potential and won't hold grudges over that infamous Michael Jackson cover.

Click Here For A Extremely Legitimate Compiliation Of Alien Ant Farm Tracks (http://s46.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0NCWFEBU14OKZ1ZZ4IRMFP19QU)

The first five tracks are from their 2001 debut ANThology:
"Courage" is a taste of the heavy side Alien Ant Farm while still remaining catchy
"Wish" is another chaotic and heavy track that was featured on the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 soundtrack
"Stranded" starts off with a bang but moves into a beautiful, powerful chorus and soft verse
"Whisper" is a balance of heavy verse and melodic chorus
"Universe" is the haunting album ender complete with eerie violins and cryptic lyrics

The last seven tracks are from 2003's truANT:
"Drifting Apart" is yet another example of AAF's match of heavy verse and a funky, upbeat chorus.
"Quiet" is a slower moving track with an incredible bass line and soaring backing vocals
"Glow" is a fun, acoustic tracks complete with a catchy solo, claps and playfully sexual lyrics
"Never Meant" is a venture into different style with it's horn section and percussion. Very mellow and atmospheric.
"Tia Lupé" is another ecletic track, this time set in the flavor of latin mambo/salsa style, something that I'd never be listening to. An extremely fun listen.
"S.S. Recognize" is the heaviest track on truANT and AAF shows us that they've still got some in-your-face riffs left. Fast moving and fun.
"Hope" is the album ender and one of my favorite tracks of all time. The lyrics tell a haunting story while the soft acoustic guitar and string section work perfectly to slowly escalate the song to it's climax.

Yup, so go ahead and download the tracks and add them to your media library because I will be checking all of your last.fms for 12 AAF tracks. Give me some feedback and if you like it enough, I'll be happy to give you more. I hope you will take this chacne to expand both your musical taste and mind by giving them a chance. Thanks again guys.

I like Alien Ant Farm.

Smash Mouth could be put on here easily.

Their first disc Fush Yu Mang is actually a very good pop-punk album.

Dude, their Smooth Criminal cover was awesome. If you cover Micheal, you have to be cool... or you like to spend intimate time with 5 year old boys...

Yeah, the bass in the rest of their songs is good too... so yeah.

Yeah, a lot of bands cover songs, I don't get why everyone got their panties in a bunch about them covering it. It's pretty good as covers go too.

Nice Chris.

I actually don't mind the very few songs I've heard by them.

Awesome Chris.

I used to love Alien Ant Farm. ANThology was one of my favorite albums when I was younger. Unfortunately, I don't have it anymore. :(

I didn't like truANT as much, but it was still a pretty good album. Either way, great band.

Heh, you guys are pretty open-minded I guess. Everyone around here was pretty unforgiving to that song when it came out. Anyway, download my compiliation and check out the truANT tracks first!

Alien Ant Farm sucks.

This thread needed some Jon-esque comment.

(I don't mind them, the be honest. Solid stuff. And Smooth Criminal makes me groove like a negro.)

I never thought I'd get into grind but my friend Jim got me hooked on a few bands...since then I've loved a lot of grind I've heard and some grind bands are my favorite bands.
