Right now I'm finally in a postition to change the pickups on my bass. I'm was thinking of changing the standard Yamaha soapbar pickups to EMGs but recently I've been thinking of Mighty Mite pickups, I've heard that they are very good pickups but I don't know if the people that said that had any experience with MMs. I was wondering if any of you good folk own or have at least tried these out, and what you think of them.
Cheers in advance for any help:thumb:

they're actually regarded as rather low quality pickups. they were essentially allparts "store" brand for a number of years.

My Cort might be regarded as a low-end bass, but it's still the nicest bass I've ever played :p

True enough... and conversely, EMG's are often regarded as high-end pickups, yet I think they are some of the worst I've ever heard :p

Edge, have you had any experience with Mighty Mites as I've come to respect your opinion, if so what do you think about them?

^^^I have no ownership experience with Mighty Mites, just what I've read online, and have tried a few basses with them installed. Honestly, I can't really recall what the tone was like. You can take that one of two ways:
1. The tone wasn't bad enough to make me recall them sucking.
2. The tone wasn't good enough to make me recall them rocking.
Take your pick :thumb:
Just remember that pickups are very subjective to the user. I love DiMarzio but hate EMG. Others might love Bartolini and hate Seymour Duncan, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

Cheers Edge, I'll probably just go around some stores and see if there are any basses with the pickups I'm looking at and make up my mind that way.

I have some experience with both.
My experiences with MightyMite pickups were that they tended to be a bit noisier than most, they fed back easily, the tone was ok, but not sensational.
My experiences with EMG's are that people either love them or hate them. By themselves, they tend to sound sterile, but coupled with an active EQ, they liven up a lot. Right now, I have EMG's in 2 of my basses, one bass has the stock active EQ in it and the other bass has an EMG BQC active eq in it. They both sound phenominal.

Very well. Tried her out with the band last night. She cut through the mix quite nicely.:thumb:

I have mighty mite's in my cort. It's not really special :). Listen to some off my songs on http://www.dsoy.nl.tt The slap tone isn't really fabulous btw. These pick-ups were stock pick-ups, so probably there are more expensive models then this one has. Oh yeah I must say they give high output compared to my friends ibanes and my other friends OLP.

I put one in a cheap MM copy once, it worked wonders for the tone. The only bad thing I'll say is that it's prone to sound breakup if pushed too far. Not a bad pickup, certianly worth the very small amount you'll pay for it. Another one to try if you don't want to spend silly money, is EMG-Selects: Designed by EMG, made by poor people who'd be better off on the dole

Decent pickups, sorta thin high end on them though. Pretty good for everything other than a smooth high tone.

Hmm, well my Yamaha has active electronics so that could work. I'll still try them out anyway and decide then.

Is english not your first language? You said he wasn't paying attention to what anyone else was saying, when he was directly responding to what JP had referenced..... Seems simple enough to me.

I heard that Yamah's stock pickups were an odd size compared to other commercially available pickups. At least for the RBX765A I heard they were.
