On Saturday I'm going with the school jazz band to perform. I'm thinking of going there so this will give me a chance to see it first hand and hopefully meet some people.
I don't have any songs because we were supposed to play a night in tunisia but the sax's couldn't handle groove merchant and our trombone section got messed up horribly so that messed up spain(the lead bassist switched to trombone). The other song we're playing is one that my teacher wrote, decent tune, I didn't really want it though, it was too controlled about what he wanted us to do.
Its okay though because next year I'm going to be playing all the songs in that compitition. Hopefully we do good, I think we got 7th place last year and that was our first year in it.
Anyway... To get to the point. Any questions you guys want me to ask, anything you want to know about it and anything I should check out while I'm there. Just ask me to ask them or whats good in boston.

How does a seemingly so disjointed band get to play at berklee? Haha just sounds really odd...
I'd be curious to hear about how the practice lab situation was. It wasn't so hot when I was checking it out.

I remember you making that thread a while back where you didn't like.
Okay since I'm lost about what were going to do, what should I ask to who?
I'm thinking just ask anyone where the practice lab is and go check it out?

Yea, that's what I'd do. When I was checking it out you had to use your own kit, there weren't many (making for obvious issues) and the building itself was very run down.
I'd think it's improved, hopefully the area around the school as well. Not the uh.. greatest place to live.

Yeah you do need to bring your own kit, I'm still wondering weather I should bring my A ping ride to try it with with the schools sweet ride or bring the vault as a crash. I'm gong more for the second ride though because were playing songs that don't need crashes(fastest song is groove merchant and were playing it at around 125, accually spain is the fastest, but its a light song and we can't use a heavy crash)
Its in a bad neighborhood, or is it just a bad campus?
When did you last visit?

Long ago. The neighborhood it's in is decently bad.
Yea, that whole bring your own kit is just way outta line. Esspeccially considering the tutition cost.

Not even that, isn't it like the top drum school in the country or something(correct me, I'm probably wrong)
What is the school accually about?

I want to live in berklee, why? drums circles. A lot of people gather around and jsut start jaming together... If you ever wondered what heaven was like. KInd odd that heaven would be at the most liberal place on earth huh? Anyway a lot of people (assholes?) call it bums on drums.
edit berklee, cali .. Incase your talking about that other one.

Hmm no, I wouldn't say it is. In the top for sure, but not the best.
You can get much better, or at the least as good of a drumset education for much less the cost.
Berklee offers full on degrees, with programs more centered around the instrument + music as a whole. Wich could be good or bad depending on your wants. In a Berklee program you'll be learning classical instrumentation, theory, composition, etc along with your contemperary drumset playing. Much more on the jazz/swing side of things however.
Where as you compare to a school like MI or The Collective. Wich is PURE drumset. While you have some theory and ear training, it's ALL drumset stuff. Just 100% contemperary drumset. Much more orrianted towards the rock/funk/pop playing wich dominates todays music.
While you don't get a degree*, it's a MUCH shorter period of time, much more intense and 100% instrument only focused. Also costs much less.
*MI has started offering degree's through PIT on drumset. I'm not sure how that program works however from viewing the classes, it seems to be very much modern drumset + the nessicary classes to be granted a degree.

No. the neighborhood is fine. I dont know where you live, but there are no problems here. Its a city, like every other city.
You don't need to bring you own kit here. They have practice facilities with drum sets already set up. Most of the drummers here do not bring their drum kit with them.
I attend Berklee, so if you guys have any questions just ask me. Don't rely on some bitter individual that doesn't know the school from first hand experience.

Wow... really nice. You had to try and insult me to prove your point. Wich only serves to show how weak it is.
Perhaps if you had learned to read before attending college you would have noticed something I said earlier.
"It's been quite some time. "
As in YEARS since I was in the area. Berklee has and was known for being in a bad area. If it's improved though, LIKE I SAID EARLIER!!!! That's good to hear then.
How about Abe Loborial Jr., alumni in an MD cover interview said the school had a 'cookie cutter mentality' and 'they train you to play at holiday inn's'.
Is he a bitter individual with no experience with the school as well?

I went to berklee 2 years ago(i think) to check it out....i almost took the chance...But somthing else happened.....It sems like its a nice school. The area was ok (nothing like the bronx). The school did seem a bit "low quality" for the Name.. I know there is another school in hollywood...and i have been there and some parts are REAL BAD...never went to the school though. Are there any other percussion school in America?

No. I'm not trying to insult you. It's just that every thread that comes up about Berklee you have to start badmouthing it. Every single one. I'm am very sick of arguing with you on this issue. It has become overdone and banal.
You have not attended Berklee. You don't know what your talking about when it comes to Berklee.
It doesnt matter what famous drummers have said about it. It doesnt matter what Abe Laboriel jr. says about it. I don't care what you say about it. The holiday inn thing is very funny. I reckon many players end up with those kinds of gigs. Players from all schools will wind up playing there. I dont care what school you've went to.
People will badmouth UNT, New School, Manhattan, Julliard, MI, The Collective, NEC..etc. Are those schools bad? Do they have a cookie cutter mentality, because of what one person says.
I respect you as a player, but you need to stop passing your opinions off as facts.

Yes, they have an excellent program there. If you get the chance to study or live there I would go for it.
