Punk and metal have several things in common. Distorted guitars, speed, aggression. However, when it comes to the atmosphere, the general feel of metal songs are probably quite a bit darker compared to punk songs.
Now, how's the ratio for punk songs? How the relationship betwen 'upbeat' punk songs, and darker punk songs? On a general level, is it still more gloomy punk songs than 'upbeat'?

Punk and metal to me is two different world. Punk is like a movement while metal are like dark music.
But you sure have some of the points similar.

I don't think punk and metal are alike at all. Metal is alot heavier and generally has longer songs.
Just my opinion though.

Punk is a movement and metal is just a genre of music, you never hear people refering to metal as a way of life.

Punk pretty much gave birth to (extreme) metal. Not enough metal fans realise this.
