...kind of off subject, but i saw a no-name (litereally, no name on it.. headstock was fender shaped, but black)... It looked alot like an old musicmaster bass, it was incredibly short scale w/ flatwounds on it...$56!

(randomness, sorry)
Can you really tell by hearing if it was done in shortscale?......

It was a Gibson EB-3, and I've seen pics of him with a Danelectro

yeah i don't really think you can tell without paying alot of attention and knowing what you're looking for with this one. But alot of gibsons were short scale back in the day

Basically anything Stanley Clarke ever played on electric was on a short scale Alembic. :amaze:

Les Pauls were, i don't think the thunderbirds were. I think the grabber and ripper may have been shortscale for a while too (but could be wrong on that one)

Check out early David Bowie stuff (Ziggy Stardust and the SPiders from Mars for example)

I'm not sure of the bassists name, but I'm almost positive he used a fender Mustang

Also wasn't Paul McCartney's Hofner a short scale???
I think that would mean any tune by the Beatles...

I cant believe I forgot that

...

I'm ashamed

However, he used a ric a lot too, which as far as i'm concerned isnt really a 'short' scale. Fender Jazz sometimes too. You have to pay attention, and be obsessive to actually notice, but whatever
