I'm too tired to type. But someone will come along and explain it better. Basically you just find out what program each one belongs to and eliminate accordingly. A good program to check what program they belong to is MS Anti-Spyware Beta 1. Many are most likely linked to programs starting with your computer you don't need starting with your computer. The MS program can also stop these programs from starting with your computer. Also, go here:

Click on "Task List" and find out about as many as you can. This is a good place to start, and there a few other more extensive ones online, too. No links, so just use google. But that one is good. So use it....

Start > Run > type "msconfig" > Startup tab
"untick" the ones you don't want to start up.

That's a fine way of doing it, but the software is able to give you a bit more info. It also makes it easier to maintain, as many things just add themselves again. And I would also recommend researching what they are and what they do before shutting them down.

You have a lot of crap on the system tray.

I didn't feel like reading all of the processes... but...
Most are fine.
As someone above said, find out what each one is doing.
If you have any doubt.... Just halt it.
You won't ruin your computer, stopping a process doesn't delete anything.
I can tell you halting "EXPLORER" will crash windows though. haha. Then you gotta "start a new process".
EDIT:
Your only using 5% CPU.

I simply run XoftSpy and RegClean every 7 days, it's all that needs to be done.
It's very different on my other computer, a load of processes running all the time

Yeah there are some bad things running there, if you post a hijackthis (http://downoald.com) log I can take a look.
Otherwise just run a virus scan if you havent.
Are you on a laptop btw?

Woah, average processes is like 35 or so depending on your anti-virus. Just google each name and the first result is usually processlibrary which will explain what each one is so you know which you can close. Also do as someone above said and go into MSConfig and uncheck al the things you don't need.

You have a tonne of processes as soon as you even install XP right?
I remember when i had Windows 2000 i only had the systray and explorer processes running. It wasn't much of a computer though i only burnt cds with it. When i ran XP i was like whoa thats not normal when i saw all the processes.

I have 28 running at idle.
Full av/firewall/anti-spyware installed, too. It was 27, but I updated my audio driver and something runs in the background concerning it. I still gotta check that out to see if it's necessary.

Yeah I know. The guy above me said how to find out what they are so I just added how to get rid of some.

Thanks. I never knew about that. *Adds site to bookmarks*
I didn't find any bad ones, apart from Quicktime, which they reckon is a resource hog. So I killed Quicktime as recommended and hey presto! My computer is running slightly faster than before. I rarely use Quicktime anyway.
