Elitist attitudes to Hippies and mods?

I posted this on another forums but that one sucks so I thought I'd find out what opinions you guys have on the subject.:)

Am I the only one who's bothered by the closed minded, elitist hatred for other social groups within the punk scene? The amount of bands/people who will preach unity one minute and the next be singing about beating up mods and hippies is getting ridiculous. Last time I checked "punks" and "Hippies" had pretty much identical ideologies so basically if you took away the tastes in music and hair cut punks and hippies would be the same:

Both believe in change by force
Both believe the government is oppressive
Both believe Capitalism and imperialism are the root to all evil
Both are unhygienic and lazy
Both tend to be facinated by either Alchohol or marijuana

Most hippies I know will own atleast a few punk albums yet the punks who claim "hippie music sucks" are too closed minded to look past their last casualties cd and prefer to take in Wattie of the Exploiteds ignorant opinions instead of thinking for themselves.

It's really starting to get on my tits - so much so that i've began contemplating ending my life...... (just kidding 'bout the "ending my life part).

What are your opinions?

I find most of this true...but the punk bands I know of that are really like that are pretty lame.

My oppinion is that you're wrong, and that you're stereo-typing punks. Not all punks hate hippies and mods. And also, if a punk happens to not like a hippy or mod, it's not neccesarily(sp?) because they're being closed-minded.

I know not all punks hate hippies and mods but it my area there seems to be this mindless hatred for them going on which is pointless especially because there really isn't any problems with hippies in the area. Most of the Hippies(if you even label people that term these days) are down to earth nice people but a lot of kids heard one of their favorite bands or friends talking about beating up the hippies and decided to give them grief. Same with the mods, if you actually go out and take the time to talk and get to know them most mods in the area are all decent people who don't tend to judge you. Saying that, this is only what I've observed in my area so maybe people are totally different where you are, I don't know.

- I think that alone definitely shows that you're stereo-typing; I cannot think of any one "punk" or "hippie" band that believe in all of those things that you stated. Besides, you contradicted yourself there anyway - how can someone believe in anything "by force" and then be lazy at the same time without being a complete hypocrite?

First of all, where the hell do you live where there's still mods? Second of all, it's like what you pointed out in your first post. Most of the punks who hate hippies for no apparent reason are morons who listen to every word Wattie and The Exploited have to say. Dirty hippy comin' in the punk forum with you're long greasy hair and birkenstocks! I hate hippies! Take a shower!

I have never heard the term mod outside of a book and that movie SLC Punk.

The Lazy and Unhygenic part wasn't really mean't seriously, My point on that subject is that a lot of people criticise Hippies for being Lazy when a lot of them spend a lot more time going to protests, working for charities etc than a lot of (at the risk of stereo-typing again) "Punks".

And an example of a Punk band that do this is the Casualties(a band popular with the people I'm refering to). One minute they sing songs about unity and the next they write a song like "Kill the hippies".
