Who does it? I am currently trying to collect Orchid and Botch releases which is sort of hard because I am unwilling to let eBay rape me and We Are the Romans 2xLP always goes 40+.
Also if anyone is willing to sell anything by either of these bands let me know. :)

I like collecting some artist's CDs and stuff.
Artists that I own the complete discography for (that have had more than 1 album)
-Pantera
-Children of Bodom
-Weezer
-Rage Against The Machine
-Trivium
and a few more.
However, I'm still looking for one or two albums to complete a few artists, which makes me angry because they should be this hard to find.

This is more about collecting vinyl records which is alot more difficult to find and collect than cds by those bands which I can pick up all of at like Best Buy.

I really need to get a record player so I can start collecting. I have a few questions though. Whats the difference between 7" and 12" besides the size? And can you play them on the same record player?
Iron Bug
02-04-2006, 07:56 PM
Yes, but at different speeds. Your basic record player will play both.
canada lol
02-04-2006, 07:57 PM
No difference really, sometimes they play at 45rpm but pretty much every record player can play 33 or 45. Most 7"s these days are 33rpm. Old 7"s require an adapter because of the big ole hole in the middle of em.

Where could I get a record player? Do they still make them? I'm talking modern wise not some antique sh!t.

Buy one on eBay. You can get a good one for 80-100 bucks.

Mine looks old timey as ****, but I like it and it has a built in radio and cd player too. You can always search Amazon for newer ones.

doesnt really matter wether you have a record player or not.
the only way for me to play my records is to pull out the DJ system my bro has, but i rarely do because my mom gets mad.
but i still buy vinyls. its mostly about collecting. because i do have alot of the songs on the computer anyways. but i did listen to my reocrds over december break. it was nice.

that's retarded.
why would you buy vinyls if you aren't going to listen to them?

well that's just stupid.
i mean, it makes sense to collect things to have them on vinyl. but.. neh.

I listen to my records, but buying them just for collecting isn't necessarily(s/p?) stupid
Mattfanatic
02-04-2006, 09:29 PM
it's not really stupid, people who collect action figures usually don't play with them, and people who collect stamps don't mail things with them, and people who collect coins don't spend them
it doesn't seem that stupid at all, although i wouldn't spend money on them if i couldn't play them
I play a squier
02-04-2006, 10:52 PM
how is it retarded?
if you had a really rare record that cost alot, and you already had the songs on the computer, what would be so wrong about not playing it?

Where do you buy a lot of those? Is online really the only place to shop? I've been to a couple record stores in my area (Toronto) and none of them carry any hardcore/emo type records.
I personally don't own/collect any records but I just looked 'cause I was curious to see if they had any.

02-04-2006, 11:24 PM
I have gotten all mine online except for four which I inherited from my uncle (Black Flag, U.S of Oi!, Wrecking Crew, and New York Wolf Pack) when he died in October. I have been meaning to check out this one record store but I havn't been able to get around to it yet, otherwise all the record stores around only carry cds except for Roy's which sells Country and Rockabilly stuff.

so?
to LUXOR: A place i go to from time to time in toronto that sometimes has some pretty cool hardcore and punk vinyl is NOISE ANNOYS. it is located IN the store "the black market" on queen street west. NOTE:it is the black market that is in the basement, not the one across the street which is upstairs.
:chug:
also, "rotate this" has some hardcore and punk vinyl. i picked up "out of step" there. only problem is that they seem to carry only more popular hardcore records, and finding records you are looking for is hard. still worth it to go and look

The only difference is speeds. Most 12"s are 33, most 7"s 45. Which are the two speeds on every record player. I would recommend searching on ebay for a cheap record player to avoid spending 80 or so bucks at Best Buy. As long as you have good speakers and a new stylus it'll sound fine.
To LUXOR: record collecting is more of an online based market. you won't find many emo/hardcore records at your local record store, although there are many record stores that keep emo/hardcore vinyl. Its just not incredibly common. You can find emo/hardcore records at online distros like Stickfigure, or Level-Plane's distro just to name the big ones. If you are trying to find something out of print (oop), then I'd hit Ebay.

Most records play at 33, period.
33rpm records can fit more music on them because they don't spin as fast as 45s. 45s however, do have better sound quality and higher volume.
