Simply amazing drummer.
Lay off his setup.Sure it looks odd,but he seems comftorable playing it.
And isn't personal preferance what really matters?
I guess, but everyone on here doesnt know that.

Drumming is one of, if not the oldest, forms of music. The modern drumset is a bit new, but still not that new.
For the actual purpose of this thread...I've never understood the issue in this forum with tom angles. I mean, sure, it's not comfy for you, but if it's comfy for the player who cares? Half the kits I see posted in G&M the comments are like "Whoa! Flatten your toms!" No, do what's comfortable.

i was talking about drumset which is a relatively young instrument
i believe it isnt even a full 100 years old as of yet
as opposed to snare which has been around for over 300 years
as far as tom angles go, when they are too angled they raise your chances of gettin carpal tunnel syndrome
from bad wrist poistioning

Those are some wacky angles there, whatever works though.

unfortunately whats comfortable isn't always what's safe, there's a reason to why so many experianced drummers generally say to flatten

Well I use a 4 piece.
It's fairly easy to get good tom angles.
Even if you COULD get wrist problems at a later time, you could just relax your arms after playing.
They'res plenty of ways o get past alot of stuff in drumming.

carpal tunnel is in your bones so you cant really relax it away, many poeple who use wrists in thier jobs or activities get it

I've seen plenty of experienced drummers with large angles. Mcbrain, Peart, most metal drummers...
It's easy to prevent damage if you're doing the right exercises to keep your hands strong. Carpal tunnel develops because you never destress your hands.

its mostly to do with angles above 45 degrees

Eh, I've seen tons of bitching on this site for people with angles closer to 30 degrees. People here seem to look for 5-10 degrees, which is not suitable for all players.

I like them tipped in at me a bit... I don't want to reach up and over to play down on the drums.
Less movement = good.

stop talking out your arse and saying blatantly incorrect things. carpel tunnel is nerve related, not bone related. i really hate when people on here speak incorrectly about medical issues.

Well, I don't really study conditons of the hand on a daily basis, I've glanced through some threads and read about it in some books. I guessed only that it wasn't the muscles, I was close enough so Pssshhh
Aaron
02-04-2006, 02:00 AM
no you weren't. some people on here have qualifications, and its an insult to them when you make sweeping statements that are incorrect. FYI carpel tunnel relates to the nerves arround the carpel bones in your forearm, when pressure in this area [whether from muscle, bone, tendon, ect] is applied over time the nerve gets damaged and impinged upon.

Yeah it is and thats why I find it a tad immature when somebody says 'holy tom angles batman'. I say a tad immature because personal preferance is alright to an extent. If somebody has their toms like \_/ that, then yeah its messed up but a lot of drumming is personal preferance and a lot of drummers are so stuck up their *** that they think they can tell somebody whats right and whats wrong.

lol god, how is it that everyone on here always flips out about tom angles, then i post something about it and everyone says "tom angels arent bad its all about preference"
Massik Kretal

Becuase one person said that, another agreed, and another and another, then Jim said it also, and that's when everyone followed. Though I also I agree with them. :p

The sooner people on this board learn it's all about preference: the better. I personally like my cymbals high. Whenever I post a picture of my kit I am instantly demanded to make my kit like everyone elses, thus making it uncomfortable for me to play, but hey everyone on the boards is pleased right?
