I have seen drummes use two sets of hi-hats. I was just wondering what the purpose was. I am not being a jerk I just dont know why so i was asking. Thanks!

Different sounds. Easier to hit a second permanently closed set of hats than a a drop clutch? Lotsa reasons

when playing double bass, with 1 set of hats you'd have to play the hats open unless you learn to control both at the same time...with aux hats you can play on closed hats...
Also it's much easier to play ride/hat patterns with the same hand if you have a set near the ride connected to a remote hat stand...
I have electronics and I use remix hihats to complement that as well as my Mastersounds.

there are many reasons, like mentioned before, like having 1 closed for double bass, and hi hat/ride patterns. another is, and alot of metal drummers use this, is having like 14'' hats as main hats, then having a 15'' pair for and extra punch in like a chorus.

Double bass is the main reason I deicded to get a second set. Comes in real handy. It also gives you extra sound options even during songs with no double bass. More sounds = :thumb:

I like the remix hats, they are very dry. As far as sound they are probably similar although I have never heard the special recording hats but I wouldn't say there would be any need to change. The remix hats are also discontinued and I just happened to find a local friend who I begged until he gave them to me. They are very hard to find but good luck if you decide to try and get yourself a set!
I'd like to introduce you to Flep......

There good for having them during double bass parts...Listen to One Little Victory by Rush. The intro is Neil doing double bass while hitting his X-Hats.

I bet i'm retarded, but Peart has a double pedal? Doesn't seem like Rush's style to use double bass in a song.
And i'm going to listen to that as soon as i'm done with Satriani.
EDIT: Right, this song.

I'm pretty sure there's some on the first track of Vapor Trails.
I hear it more on their newer stuff.

yea, neil's never really been a dude who chuggs 16ths on double bass like portnoy, but he does sometimes, like in 1 little victory, i think he uses it more in like fills and ****, and maybe like little triplets, but i'm not 100% sure

Well to be realistic, very few drummers would use two hi-hats for any other reason then to add a different sound to their drumset.
Thus generally, there is 1 main reason.

He uses it properly, very tasteful in his double kick use.

Doesnt change the fact there could be lots of reasons though does it?

It's basically like having a second ride to your left, but now it's (usually) a second set of hats on the right.. or don't you know what the purpose is of a second ride either Oo' .. xD no i was being a jerk lol :p. i think you get the pint now..

Exactly...Unlike a lot of drummers that use it to show off how much they "kick ***" at double bass.

yea. of course, that shouldnt surprise anyone, seeing as neil is basically the most tasteful player out there.
