Does anyone else like this band? They're a funky 80s hardcore band who i've totally fallen in love with over the last couple of months. The Skinny Elvis is just amazing, as is the other compilation i've heard, incidentally called The Fat Elvis. If you like bands like Angry Samoans or bands like the Minutemen, i'm sure you'll love the Big Boys.

And is it just me or is Texas hardcore just tottally underrated compared to other scenes in the 80s?

Anyway, I recommend ya' check out The Skinny Elvis.

I had a friend years ago on WinMX who sent me a burned CD with a bunch of their songs on them as well two other CDs (Phish and Really Red) They were really good. I downloaded The Fat Elvis about a year ago and it was really enjoyable.

The Fat Elvis is great, and it has Funk Off, possibly the funkiest song ever. If you liked TFE, i'm sure you'd really like TSE.

Really Red are another band i've been getting into, Teaching You the Fear is awesome.

DUH!

I mean, c'mon, we had Big Boys, Verbal Abuse, Really Red, the Dicks, and tons more. We had some rad thrash bands too: Rigor Mortis, Gammacide, Angkor Wat, DRI (originally from houston, moved to the bay later on), etc.

Big Boys rule. I remember about Bad Brains declining a show with them because their singer, Biscuit, was gay. I still love the Bad Brains, but that's kind of messed up.

RIP Biscuit

Bad Brains was awesome but HR was a homophobic, masogonist jerk.

I'd heard people say that Bad Brains were homophobic, but that blows. I can't dislike Bad Brains' music though, and i guess that's all that matters.

Yeah, they were rastafarian and I think that it comes with their ideology just like those who think homophobia comes with christianity,

Either way, both bands rule, and had Biscuit not come out of the closet and there was a show with Big Boys AND Bad Brains, holy ****, I'd become a devout christian. ok, no, but i'd be really ****ing happy.

I wish i'd been around in the 80s. So many great bands, and most of them are no longer together.

I like the Big Boys.

What's their affiliation with the Dicks?

I know they did a live split 7" with 'em, and that both singer's were gay, but I'm not sure of any other relation. Oh, and I'm sure both were from Austin.

Bad Brains did play the show with the Big Boys but when the found out Randy Biscuit was homosexual there was a bit of trouble afterwards and they didn't pay the money to the Big Boys for the show.

The relation The Dicks is pretty much what J said, The Dicks were a Austin band as were the Big Boys and Gary Floyd and Randy Biscuit were both homosexual. They also did a live split 7" together which I believe I have on soulseek.

And is it just me or is Texas hardcore just tottally underrated compared to other scenes in the 80s?

I wouldn't say so, there is alot of famed bands from Texas such as the ones J mentioned. DRI, The Dicks, Big Boys, MDC, Really Red, Verbal Abuse and Butthole Surfers were and are big name bands. I have a few really good late 70s early 80s Texas punk and hardcore comps if you want them.

Rest In Piece Randy Biscuit.

ah ok, yeah i knew there was some **** involving them and Bad Brains, I just wasnt sure.

Although as big as some TX bands were, we were def underrated compared to LA and NY at the time. Keep in mind.

DRI and Verbal Abuse both basically made their fame in the bay area, not TX. so many at the time didnt even consider them TX bands, but they most def were.
