These are the twelve steps of Drumaholics Anonymous.

1. We admitted we were powerless over drums; that our lives had become unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of drums as we understood them.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5. Admitted to drums, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6. Were entirely ready to have drums remove all these defects of character.
7. Humbly asked them to remove our shortcomings.
8. Made a list of all drums we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
9. Made direct amends to such drums wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
11. Sought through playing and meditation to improve our conscious contact with drums, as we understood them, praying only for knowledge of their will for us and the power to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to drumaholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Worry about that later. A lot of really great drummers don't/can't solo (i.e. Mitch Mitchell). If you can learn some really good rhythms to keep time with and play along with the band, that's just as good, if not better, than doing a solo.

Hey I'm Jon

I've never tuned my drums in my life (although I have tried) thanks for the link

When I get on the kit at home I have to groove along to a click since it feels so damn flowing :) Thanks to everyone who pressed on with the using a click :D

I couldn't care less about showing off bad *** chops or soloing, I want to play for the song

Thats all

I love you guys :thumb:

Thats a great attitude! Don't worry about soloing, that shouldn't be at the top if your list. I have been playing for a long time and have only done one solo and it was because I didnt have a choice. Being able to play for the song doesnt get enough mention around here but it is a very important skill for any musician.

Hi im Jezen Thomas, and my mum loves hearing me solo and she always brings people round to the house so they can watch me solo and to be honest it is starting to make me feel like a pet monkey.

That's more or less what I do, I can't solo cause I never solo, and I never solo cause I can't solo... I guess it takes practise. I just stick on my headphones and play along to the songs, with lots of my own ideas and fills and variations and things, trying to get it just so it all fits well with the song and also sound cool. I think it's the best way to try out creating new fills and beats and things, cause that way you can see what really works and get it all fitting together nicely. Also you get to listen to good music and play drums at the same time, It doesn't get any better than that, huh.

I'm finally getting good at tuning after years of playing. As much as I did not want to admit it, you just have to keep doing it untill you get a feel for it. There is no secret way to tune them, just guidelines to help you out a little bit.
