Did you go through the whole setup thing on the netgear disk?

just find the router interface, configure it to DHCP and renew the IP...that'll get you connected.

You do know Netgears default IP is 192.168.0.1 not 192.168.1.1?
That threw me at first. Also, when the router is switched on, does it indicate your router is connected? Is you network card working correctly?

DHCP does not assign the router a IP address, at least in the Netgear DG. You define the router IP manually, and DHCP assigns IP's to any devices connected to the router.

its ok, ive done all that thanks for the help, theres now another problem though, its really annoying.
it connected and everything, i went on here to test, then installed the new firmware, configured wep protection settings and all disconnected to see how to connect again, and it wouldnt reconnect at all. also, when it was connected on my account, it wouldnt work on my parents accounts, it said they didnt have access,
is it the firmware or something, netgear really arent helping, i thought it was meant to be easy to set up
any help appreciated ta

you probably changed a setting that you weren't supposed to. hold the reset button on the router for a few seconds, then try again.
