What's the difference betwean a 2-3, 3-2 clave beat? Stanton Moore's "Take it to the street" book introduces these, but doesn't tell whats the difference, if you dont undesrtand what im talking about, ill try to explain.. * can't tab really...*

Those are both Son Claves. Don't fall under the common false impression that you aren't allowed to go through different claves. You are.

I don't quite understand , but i guess ill ask my teacher on sunday, i thought she was out of town so i asked on here, but thanks for your help, I assume her telling me in person will make it more easier

It would be great to learn in more depth about this. Son is only one type of clave rhythm.
Check out Horatio Hernandez's "Conversations in Clave" book.

well, take any clave pattern. did your teacher write some out for you?
if there are 3 hits in the first measure and 2 in the second then it is a 3:2 clave. if there are 2 in the first and 3 in the second then it is a 2:3. they call all be reversed like that.
asking your teacher always helps too

in 4/4 the count would be basically "trip-pl-et 3 4" for and then "1-2 trip-l-et"
it's a hard thing to master but i love it

Here's a simple way to see the differences.
Two types of clave rhythm, SON and RHUMBA.
Only difference being that the son clave plays the '4', and the rhumba clave plays the '+' of 4. Each clave rhythm consists of a 2 bar pattern. One bar has 3 notes, the other bar has 2 notes. 3:2 means the bar with 3 notes is played first, followed by the bar with 2 notes. 2:3 is the reverse.
I have put ' ' around the notes that are played.
SON CLAVE 3:2
[..'1'..+..2..'+'..3..+..'4'..+.]...[.1..+..'2'..+..'3'..+..4..+..]
SON CLAVE 2:3
[..1..+..'2'..+..'3'..+..4..+.]...[..'1'..+..2..'+'..3..+..'4'..+..]
------------------------------------------------------------------------
RHUMBA CLAVE 3:2
[..'1'..+..2..'+'..3 +..4..'+'.]...[.1..+..'2'..+..'3'..+..4..+..]
RHUMBA CLAVE 2:3
[..1..+..'2'..+..'3' +..4..+.]...[.'1'..+..2..'+'..3..+..4..'+'..]
(*There is a 6/8 clave as well but we won't go into that for now.)

Playing with 'Clave' is pretty cool. Remember it simpyl means, Key or The Key. You can really make up any clave. The ones here are the common types by those names of course.
A great book, if you are interested in more about playing with claves and the large application and uses, check out 'Conversation In Clave' by Horico Hernandez (I just murdered his name I think).

It is either a wooden instrument to make noise. OR a son clave is a type of Afro-Cuban, Latin, type beat. In this case, I'm talking of case number two duder.

I have a couple albums with him on it and I'm thinking about getting one of his DVDs.
the book, "afro cuban rhythms for drumset" also has some good clave pattern explainations. I like that book because they take rhythms that are traditionally played by several hand percussionists and show you how to play them all on the drumset. It's good stuff.

Aha. I didn't know of the basa clave but looking at this pattern and the name, it's obviously what the bossa nova comes from. basa...bossa.
And the pattern here is exactly the same as the bossa nova rimclicks.
