I posted this is the MXDP Solo thread, but I guess posting here won't hurt either. I'm just need some feedback to maximize my mic levels.

2 overhead condensors
3 drum mics
1 diaphram kick
Just for your knowledge, my condensors are straight above the left and right side of my kit and they face straight down. I'm not sure how to set them up, but this seems to catch a wide range. If there' something I'm not understanding, feel free to tell me.

the kick needs some more high-end presence, if you have some form of EQ on your mixer, find the "high" or "mid" knob and turn it up a titch. (if you have a "mid" and then a freq setting, that'd work best to get some more punch presence out of the kick.)
otherwise it was good... might turn up the cymbals a SLIGHT titch and the snare a tiny bit more.

that sounds great except for the bass drum. like chippy was saying, it has no high presence. maybe you should stick the mic on the batter side to get more of the impact sound. and what is a diaphram kick? is that one of those mics that's basically a speaker turned into a microphone?

that's just what they are called.
Its a Shure PG52 to be specific...just a kick mic...technically called Large-Diaphragm microphone.

put a hole in the kick drum...make sure the bd mic is point towards where the beater hits the skin. check all your mic positions...measure your overhead distance...the ribbon mic isn't doing you any good at the moment either...
also...if you want a chunkier sound, hit the drums harder...and use a snare thats bigger than 6"...haha

hell no. I play jazz. I don't want a ported drum... I need all the resonance I can get. I'll just aim it at the beater side and see what happens

a ported reso is not necessary. just play with the placement. and the thing is if you put it on the batter side, your going to get squeaky noises from the pedal and things like that.
could you get a picture of your set, it will help me to have a better understanding and reasoning for why the sounds sound like they do.
put your overheads in an xy pattern. thats like having one mic facing diagonally left and another one diagonally right directly on top, maybe with a bit of space though. so they end up making an x. and they go directly in the middle in front of you.
your snare seems a bit muddy once you get to the rolls maybe a bit of compressor or tighten the snares. nevermind i listened again, snares are fine.
your floor toms have a bit too much sustain at one point, try moving the mic a bit faarther so that it doesnt pick up all the resonance form the drum.
for the highat, it seems like you have it aimed directly, try to put it a little off center of where you hit si that it does not pick up so much attack.
if you want just try it with two mics you might get a nice muffled clean sound.

I appreciate the help guys. I think a lot of the problems come from people with weak speakers. I have a set of tweeters above standard midrange speakers and a sub on the floor. So my bass drum sounds pronounced to be...as far as jazz standards are concerned.
Thanks for the help, but I this is like shooting in the dark. You guys don't know what sound I want and I don't know what sound you think I should be getting.
let me change my wording. If there is anything that just stands out as being awful. Then please tell me. As far as I'm concerned right now, everything sounds just as I want it and i've listened to it through various speaker setting even in my friends cars, our auditoriums speakers, and just the crappy laptop speakers.
Thanks for the help though guys, I did get some ideas about how to fix some things that were bothering me.
